Hits close to home....
8 August 2003
"We Were Soldiers" hit close to home because my dad and his friend Donald were in this very same battle. In 1965, my dad had just graduated from high school in Wichita, Kansas. He volunteered to enlist in the Army because there was practically nothing waiting for him there...

My dad was stationed with the 1st Cavalry. The "Valley of Death" was where he fought his first major battle and lived. I'll never forget the scenes in this movie because my dad didn't have to be alive and well today. After seeing this movie, there has not been one day where I wondered what would have happened to me if he didn't live to see it.

I am eighteen now, and my dad suggested that I see this and gain an idea on how gruesome the battle was and how he managed to live through it. I cried at the end, the same thing I did when I cried at the end of "Platoon", because I think of so many of those who may have been friends with my dad...who never lived to see the next day after that battle ended. I think of those who came back scarred deeply, not only physically, but emotionally and spiritually.

And I will continue to cry for them....cry as deeply as I can...

Platoon (1986)
Emotionally charged...for those who know
8 August 2003
I shed so many tears as of five minutes ago...I had just finished watching "Platoon". My dad served in 1965-1966 during the beginning of the war with the 1st Cavalry. I don't deserve to have a father who was fortunate to live through a war where there where so many unanswered questions at the end. He came back with no deep scars, physical or mental. He remembers losing friends, comrades in arms whom for some reason, never had a chance to tell of their experiences in Vietnam because their lives were cut short.

I will continue to watch "Platoon". To remember those who gave their life in a confusing war. To remember those who came back scarred deeply: physically, spiritually, mentally, and emotionally. To remember those who came back with no deep scars at all, but somewhat painful and sometimes even fond memories of their buddies in Vietnam.

And I will cry for them ALL.....

Bullitt (1968)
LOVED IT!!!
24 May 2003
The car chase scene was too good to be true. Steve McQueen is probably one of the coolest actors from my mom's generation. My mother turned me on to old movies such as 'Bullitt' and his other awesome movie 'The Great Escape'. McQueen sets the standard for action flicks today...

Long live the King of Cool!
