Really Promising!
22 March 2008
I find the premise for this show really intriguing, and the lead actor Nicolai Coaster-Waldau is just about the best thing on television. He plays this character with depth and the right mix of sadness and wit. The rest of the cast is excellent as well. I hope Fox gives this show another shot next season because I'd love to see more of this story develop. I like the references to the past of New York, a city with some of the most interesting backstory in this country. That alone will give the show plenty to draw on for episodes. I loved the montage of pictures of Times Square...keep the period details accurate though (tee-pees!?)and that the glued beards don't look too cheesy!

Fabulous! Where the Distributor!??
6 January 2007
One of the most touching films I've seen in a long time, a complicated story that unwinds slowly but powerfully due the the directing and performances of the fine cast. This film really needs to be seen, it's been buried and badly handled in that it's not out there. I had the rare opportunity to see it at a special private screening...almost no one in the USA has seen it at all, in spite of heavy festival play. Emily Barclay who play the young girl and narrates much of the film is an emerging NZ talent in league with Keisha Castle-Hughes. Mathew McFayden gives a multi-layered and complicated performance as a man estranged from the family he left behind as a teenager. The casting is believable for every character and the audience is drawn into the story. Can you hear me Weinstein Brothers-- someone needs to pick this one up and run with it!

The New World (2005)
I want to see the LONG version
20 January 2006
I actually haven't seen the film yet, but have been anxiously waiting to see it for 6 months as its release got pushed. Unfortunately it made its original New York run while I was out of town for the holidays and was GONE much to my dismay the day I got back. I am very upset that I have to wait for the DVD to see the LONG version. I happen to like films with well developed expositions, even if the current fast food culture has no patience for them. I wish there was a choice...maybe one long version showing at specific theaters for those who want that option. Do you hear me out there producer/distributors...some of us want the whole portion! not the short shrift.

Timely story idea
20 November 2002
I saw this film at IFP this fall, and was quite impressed with it as an independent first film from its director. While parts of the film get bogged down by too much talk (using visual language and symbolism may have gotten some points across better than verbal discussion...almost lecture from the characters) overall I felt the performances from the actors were very strong and their characters well drawn by the writer/director. Humanizing the portrayal of Palestinians as ordinary people is a welcome subtext of the film.

The Beast (2001– )
All the intelligent people are watching cable

I think I saw every show of this short lived series and I thought it was great--and had absolutely NO chance on network TV which is being devoured by reality and game shows. It had a great cast with good depth of characters and had it been given half a chance (or had been on non network TV) I think it would have found it's audience. There is little to no chance for a drama series on the networks these days...ER would have been cancelled in three airings in todays television climate. This show was DUMPED into mid summer Wednesday nights where building a new audience is difficult at best...and it was the kind of show you had to keep up with. I really liked Frank Langella's character facing his mortality, Elizabeth Mitchell and Naveen Andrews were both outstanding. There was some developement of each character==but it also seemed like they were showing episodes out of order, or skipping some, another bad plan by desperate TV executives that are under orders to make a quick buck and the hell with a quality show. I think it a horrible shame that there aren't more shows like this--The Street was another outstanding show that died quickly on the network
