The Criminal (1999)
Something to do
This film is really just something to watch when you are bored. It's by no means the worst film on the world, but it could have been so much better.
There are some funny moments, and parts where you do wonder just what the hells going on. You can decide for yourself whether that is a good thing or a bad thing.
I did enjoy the beginning, the way it kind of gave you a false sense of security; how it gave you the impression that the film might be something that was completely different from what it turned out to be. But it did go down hill from there on end.
Futurama (1999)
You people!!!
My opinion of Futurama IS simple. It's funny, I enjoy it because of it's in-your-face comedy and instantly quotable one-liners.
If I was to compare it to The Simpsons, I really wouldn't as they are two different cartoons that happen to be created by the same people.
American Beauty (1999)
Funny and moving at the same time
When I was returning home from the movie theatre, I couldn't help but think about what I had just seen. What was really good about it was the stillness of it all. The mood of the whole thing was pleasent, it was so easy to watch. The first half was a comedy, and I found myself laughing my head off, especially at the childishness that I saw in Lester Burnham (Kevin Spacey). The second half for me, began when the two teens watch the most beautiful thing Ricky (Wes Bentley) had ever filmed. The comedy was still there, but it was shadowed by just how moving it all was. The characters on the screen were people I found myself caring for, and I wanted to know what would happen to them. The final 15 minutes were hypnotic. I don't think I blinked during that time, and even when the credits rolled, I was sitting in my seat still not blinking. For me (as you can probably tell), watching this movie was an absolute pleasure. And as a person who doesn't feel that movies influences social behaviour, this movie did influence me.
Pulp Fiction (1994)
Do you know what they call a Quarter Pounder with Cheese in Paris?
What can I say. I love violence. In no way do I incourage it, but hey, it's a movie, and in a movie, you can do whatever you like. Anyone who thinks that this is too violent or they swear too much or it's just a piece of filth have obviously overlooked the purpose of film. Fair enough if you thought that this wasn't entertaining, but don't give lousy excuses such as 'is was too violent' as to why you didn't like it.
I found Pulp Fiction thoroughly enjoyable. OK, so I, to this day have no clue what it was about, but that doesn't bother me because of the unbelievably sharp dialogue. Frankly, I don't care what this was about, or what type of in depth insight people have on this film, because I see this as something to be watched and laughed at, and for the dialogue to be recited at moments when you're alone...perhaps that's just me then.
