Nefarious (2023)
Shocked by how good it was. Amazing
Let me start by saying that I'm an atheist, I was raised with the church but left in my teens and never looked back. When I stumbled across this movie, I'd never heard of it, I'm so glad I did. Sean Patrick Flanery deserves on Oscar for his performance! This movie was so well written, directed and cast. It was very moving and thought provoking. The dialog between the demon and the Dr. Was beyond well written, insightful and believable. It is not your typical "horror" movie: Blood & guts and "let's hide behind the chainsaws" fodder.
For the reviewers who felt this was religious propaganda I guess you could say the same for Exorcist or any other movie about demons (demons are entities that were created by religious scripters after all.) I think you should have expected some religious undertones going in. I get it if a movie shot mostly in one room isn't up your alley but at least be honest about why you didn't like it. However, I also understand that the subject matter, even if you take God out of it (humans facilitating their own demise) is very volatile for some people.
One more thing I found interesting about this movie: I have been saying for years that we seem to be following the same path as the characters in a Stephen King story The Stand. It takes place ironically right after a pandemic. If you haven't read it, you should. It's also about a demon and reminds me of the telling's of the demon in this story on many levels.
Ties that Kill (2022)
Poorly written with forced overacted performances
I can't speak to the story that was told because we turned it off after the first 20 minutes. It was excruciating. The acting was way over the top and stiff. The dialog was hilariously unbelievable, especially the father.. The whole thing kind of reminded me of a 1980's porn flick without the porn. All it needed was cheesy soundtrack. This had to be written by someone with zero experience and no idea how people speak or react in real life. I think that to even equate this to a lifetime movie would be a stretch. I find it unbelievable that a movie studio would actually release this more less charge people to watch it.
Home Before Dark (2020)
Maybe if you're a 9 year old. But I wouldn't let mine watch, NEVER want them acting like Hilde!
There are ZERO likable characters in this show and the acting was really bad. The show is filled with forced dialog and unrealistic scenarios.
The parents are both portrayed as blundering pacifists. They allow the nine year old Hilde to run the streets at night, disrespect authority, steal, break in houses, leave school any time she wants and publish articles with out checking her facts with out any consequences. "Now honey you should have checked the facts before you published that article that destroyed the neighbors life. You want a cookie?"
Hilde is the most annoying, obnoxious, self righteous person I have ever seen in a show or in real life and they encourage her! We are supposed to believe that she is wise beyond her years yet she lacks basic impulse control and thinks the rules don't apply to her.
The Father is an overly emotional deadbeat and the mother is always quietly backing off to let him handle Hilde.
Hilde's friends (co-investigators) feel like they were thrown in only to give a "stranger things" feel to the show.
When you throw in the corrupt, not corrupt, corrupt, oh I don't know cop and the martyr Native American that would rather stay in prison than fight the whole thing is just silly. We watched all of this but after the 3rd episode or so it was more of a "Can't take my eyes off that car wreck" kind of thing.Should be over that by the next season so we won't waste anymore time on it.
