Tooooo long! Wait for streaming
27 November 2023
When I saw trailers for this film, I was intrigued and really wanted to see it. It is a powerful and important story but at 3 hours and 26 minutes, it was just entirely too long and drawn out with unnecessary elements. I went to a 12 o'clock noon showing and kept dozing off and there was a gentleman one row in front of me (there were only two of us in the theater) and he actually kept standing up; I assume to keep from falling asleep as well. I'm sure this film will be nominated for several awards, but editing should not be one of them because they could've made it a lot shorter than it was and still told the story. Wait for it to come out in Redbox or streaming; at least that way you can restart if you fall asleep.

Tolerable

Warning: Spoilers
I am a member of AMC Theatres A-list, which allows me to see up to three movies a week, so I didn't really have to "pay" to see this one. Of course, I am a fan of the original 1973 classic so went to see this one out of curiosity, with no real expectations. It started out a bit slowly and then got better when the two girls became possessed. I thought their make up and acting was very good. I had a hard time understanding what the demons were saying. I was happy to see Ellen Burstyn come back as Chris McNeil but it was a huge tragedy that she was so underutilized. She deserves so much better than what she was given in this movie. I was also surprised at what happened to one of the girls, but after analyzing what happened and the choice that was made, I believe I know why what happened happened. The best part was the surprise at the ending with the brief appearance of Linda Blair; I got teary-eyed. It was very bittersweet considering what happened to Chris. I was so hoping Linda would be in it and did not know that she was going to be. I have learned that this is going to be a trilogy. I'm not sure what they can do with it because I don't anticipate Ellen Burstyn coming back (unless they give her a whole lot of money for her charity, and what would she be able to do in it) and I don't know if Linda Blair would be willing to have a part in any future films, so where can they take this?

Awesome
11 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I know this movie has gotten bad reviews, but I quickly learned never to pay attention to critics, who seem to go for "artistic value" and don't care about simply enjoyable entertainment. I never get tired of watching it. My favorite part is when Christina Aguilera first sings in the club when the background sound suddenly stops - I just keep rewinding that scene. Her voice is amazing and makes the movie worth watching just because of her voice. Cher's one song was beautiful and the phenomenal Stanley Tucci naturally steals every scene he's in. The plot line was a bit predictable but the lines written for the characters were well done.

Loved it!
16 February 2023
When I first heard about this movie, I thought it was going to be a comedy or spoof, and then I saw it was classified as a horror film. Of course I was curious and just had to see it. I didn't have great expectations but I absolutely loved it! There was a lot of people in the theater and everyone was laughing, even when somebody got killed - especially when somebody got killed - because they did such stupid things it's almost like they deserved it. It was like they were paying homage to the slasher films of the 80s. It was just so bad that it was great and if it ever comes out on DVD, I want it!

A love story or an expose?
28 December 2022
BABYLON Was a really great film. I can see it being nominated for best picture of the year, deservedly so. It is both a love story to the Hollywood film industry in the late 1920s and an exposé of how it will take someone's dreams that either destroy them a raise them up to the highest tides and then destroy them so that it's a lost either way. How young kids flock to quote the land of dreams and "with stars in their eyes and dreams and their heads. The question/moral is what is worse - having dreams that never come true we're having those dreams take you to the highest heights, knowing you're going to crash and fall in the end?

Confusing at first
17 February 2022
I just finished watching the first episode and there were so many people/characters that I actually had to write down names and relationships and I didn't realize it was actually jumping back-and-forth in time and I had to connect who the people were from the past and who they are in the present....take notes.

Worst
26 January 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I don't get the positive reviews; I thought SKYLINE was the worst movie I've ever seen, but this one just took over the spot as the worst - and I'm 51 and have seen TONS of movies! I read the premise; thought this would be a comedy/drama about medical interns in a hospital but it wasn't what I expected! I've worked in the medical field for 25 yrs and I was laughing at the scene where an INTERN is performing a SPINAL PUNCTURE...BY HIMSELF??? Dr. Ray sure was left all alone for an intern! Interns are people who have book learning but no hands on experience! This movie would have fit better on TV, like on Comedy Central. I noted that it WAS a TV movie from 2006? And they just now released it? WHY?? There were TWO good parts - the part I fell asleep through (lady sick at a party?) and THE END....

Awesome Movie!
25 March 2005
I'm a little white woman and so wasn't sure what to expect...I LOVED this movie! I laughed, I cried...the emotions ran the full gamut. I especially loved "Orlando" - are there any REAL men like him anywhere out there???? I'd sure love to find one like him! Gorgeous AND sensitive?? Whew! And Kimberly Elise? WOW! She carried this movie on her oh-so-slender shoulders with such ease. And her revenge? LOVED IT! Especially her final decision as to which man to be with - no, I'm NOT telling! The only thing that bothered me was the premise that she'd been married for 18 years - Kimberly Elise looks FAR TOO YOUNG to portray someone who's been married 18 yrs - unless she got married at 14! I could believe a 12 yr marriage, but NOT 18! That part just didn't work; it wasn't believable.

This movie reminded me a little of WAITING TO EXHALE.

Good movie
18 December 2004
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed this movie, but I liked the first one better. Bridget's quirks can get quite annoying pretty fast! But the lesbian thing was a surprise! I thought when Rebecca said she was in love with someone (not Darcy), I thought it was going to be Daniel!

I thought it ironic that supposedly many Britishers weren't thrilled with having an American actress play the oh-so-British Bridget.

But remember that Vivien Leigh, the oh-so-British actress won TWO Oscars (for Best Actress) for portraying two of the ultimate American Southern belles: SCARLETT O'HARA (GWTW) and BLANCHE DUBOIS (A Streetcar Named Desire) Ironic, isn't it?

Great!
18 December 2004
I often go to the movies with the 15 y/o boy next door (his mom isn't into them like I am!) so I decided I'd go if he wanted to (duh!). It was a GREAT movie! Ryan Reynolds STOLE the show with his dry wit! And that BODY! Wow! It wouldn't have been NEAR as good without him! And I liked seeing Natasha Lyonne (the blind girl); I loved her in SLUMS OF BEVERLY HILLS (a must-see'r). And Dominic Purcell! as Dracula! I was LIVID when Fox canceled his show, JOHN DOE, and it was really good seeing him again! And while I'm NOT into wrestling, I have seen HHH and didn't recognize him as the vampire Jarko Grimwood! This movie was almost like a "where have they been? here they are again" movie!

Monster (2003)
Chilling
11 February 2004
I was eager to see this film because Charlize Theron is my FAVORITE actress and she proved WHY in this film! Her transformation from one of the most beautiful women in the world to ravaged-faced MONSTER was amazing; she was practically unrecognizable.

Charlize got an Oscar nomination for Best Actress for this movie. So did Diane Keaton (Something's Gotta Give). In my opinion, Diane does NOT deserve an Oscar because she was essentially playing the SAME character she ALWAYS does - a neurotic, insecure woman - while Charlize pulled off the part of a REAL-LIFE serial killer and made it look NATURAL!

Peter Pan (2003)
Breathtaking
5 January 2004
ADORED this film! I sat in my chair (for too short of a time), thoroughly ENCHANTED and charmed. I've never read the book, but the movie included everything I've ever heard about PETER PAN, like Princess Tiger Lily and the mermaids. Such beautiful cinematography and the special effects were totally realistic - no phony computer-generations seen (ok, except the crocodile) but beyond that...the budding love between Peter and Wendy was palpable yet tragic, bittersweet, knowing (as we all do) that she goes back home and he stays in Neverland.

And oh, boy, did Tinkerbell steal the show!

I laughed, I cried...a MUST SEE and especially, a MUST BUY!

(btw, I'm a 44 y/o female)

Romantic
12 August 2003
I know most people put this movie down and call it "saccharine" but I happen to ADORE it and watch it every time it's on - usually ever weekend - and I never get tired of it. It's actually nice to see a man who is gentle and kind...who says that's not masculine? And Keanu is very easy on the eyes too!

Pure romance - the kind we rarely see and what we need more of! Less sex and violence!

Heartwarming

I have seen this movie dozens of times and never get tired of it.

I invariably cry during Joe's "death" scene. This is the first film I've ever seen Charlize Theron in and she is now my favorite actress. This is an awesome film; shows the cruelty of man compared to the innocence of animals.

In my opinion...
21 April 2003
I saw this movie when it was on the big screen, and then it had its run on HBO and is now running practically every weekend (sometimes 2 or 3 times each weekend) on TBS. Well, it may not be a great film, but I watch it every time it's on and for some reason never get tired of it! There's some endearing quality to it, I guess...

Agony
4 December 2002
This movie just skyrocketed to #2 on my list of WORST MOVIES I'VE EVER SEEN (Natural Born Killers is #1). I have never been so BORED at the movies before! Predictable, lame, GODAWFUL!!!

The only thing good I can say is that Laura Regan reminded me soooo much of Bridget Fonda! Similar looks and mannerisms. She deserves better than this!

Arachnid (2001)
Predictable
5 October 2002
Very predictable movie...standard formula. Plane crash + radiation = giant creature(s). The spider's mouth looked more like that of an ANT to me! And the sound WAS bad. The background music was too loud and the actors' voices too soft; I had to crank up my volume very loud to hear what they were saying.

Beauty
11 August 2002
I have seen this movie several times (it's now enjoying a run on CINEMAX) and I can definitely empathize with Abby, because I feel the way about myself that she does - bland, boring, nondescript, not-worth-a-second-glance, etc...but what I don't get is that, to me anyway, Abby is a LOT prettier than Noelle! True, Noelle is tall and blonde, but appears pale and washed out. Abby has vibrant coloring and beautiful eyes, especially when she smiles. Also, I've noticed that the so-called "beautiful people" tend to be shallow and self-centered and the "ugly ducklings" tend to be kind and sympathetic, as if to somehow prove that they ARE worth something!

Cameos
28 March 2002
Funny movie! Reminded me a lot of ANIMAL HOUSE, especially all the cameos of stars from ANIMAL HOUSE! I saw Stephen Furst ("Flounder"), James Daughton (Greg Marmalard), Mark Metcalf (Neidermeyer) and John Vernon (Dean Wormer). I loved hunting to see if there was anyone else! I may have missed some...

I saw this movie and loved it! It was a "feel-good" film. It reminded me of the movie "LOVE STORY." I read one critic's review who called it "forgettable." Gee...it's a good thing I don't listen to critics because I'm BUYING this one as soon as it comes out! I think this world needs more films like this and less "shoot 'em up, blow 'em up"

Heartwarmer
22 July 2001
I was one of those "ugly ducklings" in high school, rejected by all except all the other rejects. I will always remember how I was treated and that was 24 years ago. There is such a thing as the "self-fulfilling prophecy" whereupon if someone is teased and tormented enough, they come to believe it of themselves and don't expect any other kind of treatment - they believe that they deserve it, that they are so ugly or fat or whatever, that since soooo many people tease them, they must be right. It can - and will - destroy your self-esteem, especially during teen years when your self-esteem truly begins to develop. Anyway...this movie brought back memories and I could relate to what Josie went through. I'd bet lots of us would like a second chance.

The part of the movie that really gets me is the end when Sam runs onto the field and kisses her...I cry EVERY time - even if I've seen it twice in one day (HBO!). That part really gets me because I wish someone would love me like that! Especially as cute as he was!

The Day After (1983 TV Movie)
Disturbing
27 February 2001
I am a 41-year old female and I must confess that I have NEVER seen this movie - or even HEARD of it until today. It was on the Sci-Fi channel. Where have I been? Actually, I was Active Duty US Navy until I retired a year ago after 20+ years. This movie was very disturbing and also saddening to see what "civilized" man is capable of. NO ONE WINS IN A WAR!!! I was in Desert Storm, onboard the USNS MERCY (hospital ship). We got the POW's (ours) released by the Iraqi's. But back to the movie...I worked in the Medical department of the Navy, so we are trained in Nuclear casualties, and I know that radiation sickness is MUCH MORE SEVERE than what the film showed, and I was pleased that this was mentioned at the end of the film. If anyone in our government(s) hasn't seen this movie - they need to.
