Se sei vivo spara (1967)
A cult movie in a cult genre!
I have recently seen this cult oddity, and I really like it. It`s a strange film, with a lot of sadistic violence and some homo-eroticism. Great editing by Franco Arcalli, that are unusual for a 36 years old film. Tomas Milian, plays a anti-hero character with some similarities to Christ, and turns in one of his better performances.
My Rating: 8/10
Il grande silenzio (1968)
Great Spaghetti Western
Il Grande Silencio is a another spaghetti western who hits the mark. The director Sergio Corbucci´s spaghetti western movies are great, almost as good as Sergio Leone´s classic pictures. Great music score by Ennio Morricone, great acting by the leading characters, and a good villain( Klaus Kinski are great as always). It`s has all the trademarks from the spaghetti western genre, that I apprize.
My Rating: 8/10
Fucking Åmål (1998)
Moving, funny and real
Fucking Åmål is one of the better films from Sweden. It has a cheap look, but it makes the movie look more realistic. It`s a fresh and heart-warming story of two girls discovering love, certainly something different than most of teenage movies from Hollywood. Check it out if you want a heart-warming movie.
My rating:8/10
The Big Lebowski (1998)
Hilarious movie!
The Big Lebowski is Coens best along with Fargo. Only the Coen brothers could create a masterpiece like this one. The story, actors and the dialogue provide for a fun two hours. The story itself is not important, but it`s oddball cast of characters that makes the movie so funny and charming. Jeff Bridges gives one of his best performances of his career as The Dude, his extremely lazy lifestyle makes you laugh. John Goodman is good as The Dude`s best friend Walter, who is a Vietnam veteran, Steve Buscemi as the quiet but loveable Donny, John Torturro as the eccentric bowler Jesus, Peter Stormare as the former porn star and nihilist and Julianne Moore as Maude. Philip Seymour Hoffman and the rest of the cast also do a great job.
The Big Lebowski is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. Especially the dream-sequences are cool and funny.
My rating:10/10
Assault on Precinct 13 (1976)
Fast suspenseful action pact from John Carpenter
This is a second work of John Carpenter, and one of his best, in my opinion. Carpenter also did the music for the film. The music does well to set the mood for the film, well-matched music.
My rating: 8/10
Saturday Night Fever (1977)
Character-driven disco movie
Saturday Night Fever is more than disco, and a period piece from the late seventies. It also have a great character development, a classic/legendary performance from John Travolta and a classic soundtrack. So if you`re a fan of the late seventies and/or John Travolta, you will love this film.
My rating: 9/10
U Turn (1997)
One of my favorite Oliver Stone picture!
I really like the desert look of this movie, and it`s fascinating to follow Bobby Cooper`s encountering to several strange characters, like Jake McKenna, Grace McKenna, Toby N.Tucker, Blind Man and the Mechanic. Maybe not a classic, but most definitive a personal favorite. By the way Jennifer Lopez really looks good and sexy in her role Grace McKenna!
My rating: 9/10
Terms of Endearment (1983)
Come to Laugh, Come to Cry, Come to Care, Come to Terms
Yeah, the tagline says it all. Terms of Endearment is one of the most emotional movies I have seen. Great performances of the trio; Shirley MacLaine, Debra Winger and Jack Nicholson contributes to make this movie a really emotional experience. Check it out, everyone should see this classic picture.
My rating: 9/10
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)
Great low-budget horror-movie!
A classic in the horror genre. I will not go into the plot, but TCSM surely made me tense to the last scene. Really disturbing. TCSM got a cheap seventees look, but I think that this cheap-look element contributes to make it disturbing. Not a movie for everyone`s taste, but I recommend it.
My rating: 8 or 9/10
Deliverance (1972)
A great adventure/thriller
Another childhood classic, and as a adult, I still rank it as a classic. For those of you who don`t think that Burt Reynolds can act, I disagree. He is great in Deliverance, and he is great in Boogie Nights, The Longest Yard, Smokey and the Bandit, and in The Cannonball Run(Yes, I really enjoy Smokey and Cannonball!). Deliverance has a strong cast, along with a good script and directing from John Boorman. I guess it`s not a movie for everyone`s taste, I did see it again with a friend, and he did slaughter Deliverance and gave it 2/10. Anyway I like it a lot, and recommend it.
My rating: 9/10
Little Big Man (1970)
One of the best indian-western ever!
I love western, and Little Big Man is one of the best. Like many other westerns from those ages, it has aged well. It`s funny, dramatic, exciting and sad at once. Many don`t like the comedian element in this movie, but I think it`s great and it works well (Like Forrest Gump and Terms of Endearment, who also are great). Check it out, I sure didn`t regret!
My rating: 10/10
Boogie Nights (1997)
Paul Thomas Anderson`s MASTERPIECE!
One of the best movies, and one of the most exciting new directors of the 90`s. Anderson create great character development in this flick, you really do care about the characters. Great casting too, all the actors do great acting, especially Burt Reynolds, Julianne Moore, Luis Guzman, William H.Macy, Heather Graham, John C.Reilly and Mark Wahlberg. Leonardo Di Caprio was the first choice for the role Dirk Diggler, but did Titanic instead. Leonardo Di Caprio, I guess, would have done fine in the role Dirk Diggler, but Mark Wahlberg was perfect for the role. Paul Thomas Anderson`s Sydney and Magnolia is good, but Boogie Nights, in my point of view, is his masterpiece. Though I haven`t seen his latest movie Punchdrunk Love yet.
My rating: 10/10
By the way. If you did like Boogie Nights, check out Saturday Night Fever.
Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo (1966)
Sergio Leone`s finest work
I did see the good, the bad and the ugly in my childhood, it did impress me then and it still does. I never get tired to see this great epic spaghetti-western. Great music score by Ennio Morricone, fantastic widescreen pictures and close-ups by Sergio Leone. For those of you haven`t seen it, rent it, or even better, buy it and enjoy the adventure of Blondie, Tuco and Angel Eyes. Highly recommended!
My rating: 10/10
Up in Smoke (1978)
Great fun!
This one of the movies I never get tired to see, it gets better for every time I see it. There are a lot of enjoyable characters, like Anthony Stoner, Strawberry, Harry, Stedenko, Jade East, The Ajax Lady and of course The Man and Pedro, you name it, the whole cast is excellent and there is great chemestry between the characters. There is also a great rhythm and great music in the movie. Sadly it`s seldom that this kind of movies are being made to day.
Thunderbolt and Lightfoot (1974)
Great roadmovie,love it!
I really like this movie, and I believe Thunderbolt and Lightfoot are one of the better movies with Clint Eastwood, and he really make a great pair with Jeff Bridges. The location where Thunderbolt and Lightfoot is filmed are wonderful, the casting is perfect, good plot, great theme song in the beginning and at the end of the film, add this together and you have a really good movie! This movie is a must for those who loves the movies from the seventees! I gave this movie 9 stars out of 10
