Akira (1988)
Anime classic?
To anime fans, Akira is what some may call "one of the greatest anime movies ever". Even though that's true, Akira does have it's flaws (as do most popular movies). First, the plot is confusing (it is based on a manga) so it might make sense the first time you see it. Also there's the amount of gore, Akira is often stereotyped for being filled with blood, that's partly true, sure there is lots of blood and gore, but not in a horror movie type of way. If you look past it's flaws, Akira is one of those movies that stands out. And with it's re-release coming soon, Akira looks to continue it's legacy for a long time
Friends (1994)
Comedy at is lowest (well most of it)
Friends may be very popular but it gets on my nerves, not because of it's content (the idea of 3 men and 3 women living together is not new, that idea has been around for a long time). I mean nothing exciting ever happens, and when something exciting does happen it always happens near the end of a season. But the one thing about this show, that always makes me tick...is the live audience. Whenever a celebrity appears or a marriage proposition happens the live audience just goes crazy and screams like crazy!. Sometimes I wish that this show had no need for canned laughter. It would be better that way.
Beavis and Butt-Head Do America (1996)
Beavis And Butt-Head on the big screen
I was suprised when I first heard about this movie, I usally look forward to movies based on TV series, and I was not dissapointed!. This movie is funny with a capital F!. It sees Beavis and Butt-Head trying to look for their TV, which has been stolen. But then they meet up with Muddy (voiced by Bruce Willis) who wants them to kill his wife Dallas (voiced by Demi Moore). From then this movie is funny all the way through. Though Mr Van Driesen and Principal McVicker are the only other characters from the Beavis And Butt-Head TV seires who are in the movie (their roles are only mere cameos) trust me, of you like Beavis And Butt-Head, you will like this movie
Frog Baseball (1992)
The short that started it all
As some people know this was the animated short that introduced the world to the antics of Beavis And Butt-Head. Despite it's short length (it's only about 3-4 minutes long), it is very funny. One more thing... did you know that "Frog Baseball" was created for the animation showcase show "Liquid Television"
Thunderbirds (1965)
A classic that is still remembered
I used to watch Thunderbirds when it was last shown in the UK in 1991, then the BBC stopped showing it. Now in 2000, Thunderbirds is back, and it still is as exciting as ever. What is amazing about it was that it took a lot of risks in the censorship rules at the time, I mean characters smoked, drank alcohol, used guns, I mean things like this are banned from TV shows that aired before night!!!. You must see this show!!!
Gekijôban Poketto Monsutâ: Myûtsû no Gyakushû (1998)
The Pokemon craze hits the big screen!
Pokemon: The First Movie was a success for one reason... the Pokemon craze (the t.v show, the games, etc) and when I first saw the movie, it was OK. It had all the favorite characters (including the bad guys, Team Rocket). But the bad points about the film is that it ends with a moral message which has been heard all over before. I also was suprised to find out that 10 minutes of the film (which explains Mewtwo's origin in better deatil) was cut and was only seen in the Japanese version, why would 4Kids do this?. One more bad thing about the movie was that we never got to here that stupid intro Jessie and James do the Pokemon cartoon!. But overall it's a decent film
Beavis and Butt-Head (1993)
MTV's first major cartoon
I've only seen Beavis And Butt-Head on video and recently on T.V but I have to say that if you look past all the rudeness and stupidity it is not that bad as it is. The cartoon sees two teenagers called Beavis And Butt-Head going thorugh life trying to "score" with women, make money when the opportunity arises, etc. It was so popular it even got a movie!, but after Beavis and Butt-Head were starting to die down and eventually, it was finished in 1997. Neverless it remians a classic.
Samurai Pizza Cats (1990)
Another cartoon from the land of the rising sun
Samurai Pizza Cats has been on T.V for nearly 10 years, despite there only being just about over 50 episodes, it still proves to be one of Japan's best cartoons. Most people will have never heard of this cartoon (because of other cartoons like Sailor Moon, Dragonball Z and of course... Pokemon). The funniest part of the cartoon was the narrator, sometimes screwing up his lines and making crazy comments. In short Samurai Pizza Cats is a lost classic
Scooby Doo, Where Are You! (1969)
A classic cartoon that never goes away
Scooby-Doo first appeared on T.V in 1969 and since then has become one of T.V's most remembered characters. The only thing I don't like about the cartoon is that it had canned laughter, which Hanna Barbera (the creators of Scooby-Doo) put in almost all their cartoons in the 60s and 70s. I don't watch the cartoon (although I used to) but it is still good over 30 years after it first came on T.V
Poketto monsutâ (1997)
Pokemon, a cartoon all the way from Japan
For years people in the US and UK have been used to seeing a lack of Japanese cartoons, why? because for one reason... they are too weird!. But now that Pokemon has arrived the cartoon had to come as well. I may be 15, but I have to admit that the cartoon is great. It is based on the Game Boy game of the same name, and it follows it very well. Everyone seems to like Pikachu, but there are others, like the stupid Psyduck, the cute Clefairy, the crazy Meowth, and about 148 more (Usally there are 150 Pokemon, but with the addition of Mew, who is seen at the start of the title sequence of the cartoon and in the movie, there's even Togepi, who is seen later in the series). So if you want something different, then this cartoon is perfect for those who want to see something different.
