Broken Soldier (2022)
What did I just watch?
This has got to be one of the worst movies I've ever seen in my life. I was deeply interested when I saw the listing because of the legend Ray Liotta, i like Shopie Turner, and who doesn't love Hector Salamanca?
It started out with a typical school girl crush on an older man when they bump into one another on the street. She's aggressive in her attempts to get to know him. I was thinking he was never going to get close to her because of the age difference and that she's a minor, but she forces herself into his life until he finally gives in.
I did like the fact they were never intimate so that's what the one star is for. The rest of it made absolutely no sense whatsoever.
Questions I need answered
1. What is the secret?
2. How did she get a key to his place?
3. How did he get invited to a family dinner?
4. Why did the Dad want to get rid of him?
5. What is the escort's role and what did she know?
The father kept saying hos daughter would understand, but there was no answer to how or why! Every actor was horrible, especially the mother. I just can't believe how awful this film was in every way. Script, directing, editing, and filming was a complete mess.
I scoured the internet to find an explanation and there isn't one. No one liked this movie. Don't waste your time.
Live Rescue (2019)
LiveRescue fail
I have watched LivePD since the very first episode. i absolutely love the show and the dynamics between Dan, Tom and Sticks. they set the pace, have the right amount of seriousness mixed with humor. i was semi-excited to hear about Live Rescue. i watched the first episode and was highly disappointed. first, i am not a fan of Ashley Banfield. never have been. but i was willing to give her a chance. epic fail. she was horrible. her attempts to emulate Dan Abrahms were miserable.
additionally, i was rather appalled at the lack of urgency in the first responders as they were dispatched to emergency scenes. some of the comments from the first responders (mostly the emts) were disturbing, almost if they were mocking some of the potential patients. i turned it off about 3/4th of the way through. will not waste time watching it again. extremely dissapointed. if they gave the hosting duties to Dan, Tom, Sticks, or Deputy Kevin Lawrence, i'd happily tune back in.
Snow White and the Huntsman (2012)
Everything I Expected .. and MORE!
i couldn't wait for this movie to come out and i can tell you it was worth the wait. Snow White and the Huntsman was everything it was hyped to be. a great action movie, stunning visual effects, amazing sets, costumes - everything.
Charlize Theron completely embodied the Evil Queen. Kristen Stewart broke away from Bella - she IS Snow White. Chris Hemsworth was amazing as the conflicted Huntsman. and the movie would not be complete without the Prince and the Seven Dwarfs.
i enjoyed this movie from the second it started until the closing credits. i LOVED the scenery ... the castles and forests ... it took me to a world that i have always wanted to live in. i told my friend that i definitely was born in the wrong country and century.
this will be a movie that i will purchase immediately upon release. as a matter of fact i will purchase two because i know i will wear the first one out.
Answers to Nothing (2011)
it's there if you look hard enough
i am not a movie critic by any stretch of the imagine - i watch a movie for entertainment. i like a movie to move me in some way - to make me laugh, make me cry ... to make me FEEL something for the characters.
this movie did just that. Oscar winning performances? hard to say ... but this movie deserves much more than the 3 stars that it has right now on IMDb.
lives crossing paths, zig-zagging and enmeshing one another. everyone has demons. everyone has things inside of them that haunt them. these people have to face theirs - and this is the story of those lives coming to terms and facing the reality of their existence.
i rated this movie high because i wanted it to move up in the ratings. this movie would be about an 8 for me. Dane Cook did a great job in this dramatic role, Elizabeth Mitchell is always fantastic .. and the rest of the cast did a great job.
it made me cry, smile, cheer and empathize .. and that's enough for me.
Remember Me (2010)
incredible film
i saw this movie for the first time, today. just now as a matter of fact. i am stunned speechless.
one of the best movies i've ever seen and i don't understand why, even in IMDb, that it's rated so low.
the ending left me breathless - when i saw the date on the chalkboard - i couldn't believe it. Tyler being so happy that things were starting to change after his brothers death ... his father paying attention to his sister, Ally forgiving him ... and for the the first time in a LONG time, he had hope for his future. only to be snuffed out ... and changing the course of everyone's lives forever.
i remember exactly where i was and what i was doing on 09/11/01 - but to view the event from the perspective of the people who were right there, the split second decisions that put them where fate intended them to be ... is so surreal.
Robert Pattinson is an amazing actor. i will admit that i originally selected the movie from Netflix based upon trailers i had seen on the Twilight DVDs, and wanting to see more of Robert. i was incredibly surprised at his abilities to make me forget him as Edward Cullen - and see him as a tormented Tyler Hawkins. his emotions - pain, sorrow, angst, passion, joy ... all came across with incredible realism. i FELT what Tyler felt.
Chris Cooper - goes without saying. not a huge fan of Pierce Brosnan but he, too, played his character extremely well. Emilie de Ravin as Ally and Ruby Jerins as Caroline also did an amazing job.
i am quite surprised i had not heard more about this film and do not understand it's "Razzie Award" as worst actor for Robert. apparently the viewers didn't let themselves feel.
an extremely underrated movie and goes to show that people shouldn't give credence to film critics.
Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005)
A Great Saturday Afternoon Movie
i am a little late in seeing this movie as it was down the list in my Netflix queue.
aside from the fact that since Gia, Angelina Jolie has always been my favorite actress and since Kalifornia and Legends of the Fall, Brad Pitt my favorite actor, i didn't know much about the story and i wasn't sure what to expect.
i knew that if you put both of them together, it would be pure sizzle. what i didn't know was how much fun they would be together.
this movie made me laugh out loud more than a few times. i'm not one to pick apart plot lines and decide if they are "believable" or not. i watch a movie to be entertained. it's fantasy. i thought this movie was funny, had great action scenes and the chemistry between the two undeniable.
it will be one i will be adding to my collection. i can't wait to watch it again!
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005)
An Amazing Journey
i am a huge movie buff, but fantasy movies have never been my genre of choice (Harry Potter or LOTR). today i saw The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and i haven't stopped thinking about it. a beautifully well-done film with glorious special effects and a message that goes beyond the norm.
there is nothing i can type here that hasn't already been said other than i plan to see this movie again on the big screen (a must!!) and will, of course, purchase it the minute it is released on DVD. truly amazing ....
Georgie Henley was a complete delight as Lucy Pevensie and Tilda Swinton was incredible as the White Witch. i look forward to future episodes of The Chronicles of Narnia .... what a treasure!
Tombstone (1993)
Amazing performances ...
by Kurt Russell, Val Kilmer, Sam Elliott and Bill Paxton (as Wyatt Earp, his two brothers and his friend, Doc Holliday).
I must start out by saying; I have a strong dislike for "westerns". Even having been raised from the age of 6 in Colorado, my tastes run more contemporary, modern and sometimes even futuristic. My partner in life and I have recently been talking about our all time favorite movies. We have discussed many and have about 60% of our choices in common. The other day, we began discussing "Tombstone" and I interrupted him saying that he could "just stop because I was not going to watch a Western." He convinced me to watch the movie based solely upon Val Kilmer's performance as Doc Holliday.
Well, I thought Val Kilmer was magnificent in "The Doors" and "Heat" and have been a fan of his since "Real Genius" so I grudgingly agreed to watch the movie. Even as I put the VHS tape in the VCR, I was dreading my promise to him. I waited to watch the movie until late last evening, ensuring a smooth transition into dreamland because I would be bored to tears and let's face it: a boring movie is better than a sleeping pill. Okay, here: "You were right, honey."
This film captivated me in the first 5 minutes. I went into the movie having little to no knowledge of the story of Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday. Basically I knew their names from history; however before last evening I couldn't have told you whether they were "good guys" or "bad guys."
The performances by Mr. Russell and Mr. Kilmer were phenomenal as I was transported back to the day of the Wild West. Val Kilmer *was* Doc Holliday. He oozed sex appeal, emotion, and honesty; every woman who has ever watched this movie wishes she were Doc's Kate. Holliday was extremely attached to Wyatt Earp ~ the depth of the friendship beautifully portrayed by both actors. Either would have given his life for the other. The additional performances by Elliott as Wyatt's brother Virgil, and by Paxton as their brother Morgan, gave us a further glimpse into the dynamic lives of the Earp Family.
This movie has everything: good vs. evil, comedy (Holliday's response to Johnny Ringo's pistol twirling show), action, suspense, romance and some incredibly moving and emotional scenes. I cried twice, once almost to the point of sobbing. It has been a very long time since I had been so moved to that point by a film. I have watched it three times in the last 24 hours and am planning on purchasing it for my own VHS collection. Hmmmmm ... now may be a good time to upgrade to DVD .........
Revisit Tombstone ... remember when you wanted to be a cowboy? And ladies, you know you want him. *wink*
When Strangers Appear (2001)
Strange, and interesting ..
While I thought this movie had it's suspenseful moments, I can't help but feel that I was missing something. Did I miss something?
Small town outcast loner girl runs the local diner and motel. Her life changes forever one day when a stranger appears, injured from some type of stab wound, and draws her into a game of intrigue, terror and even murder. He'd edgy, jumpy and seems to have something to hide. Moments later, 3 more strangers appear who seem to have an agenda. "They are after me, they are the ones who stabbed me!" "He robbed us and we just want to talk to him." You're being followed, stalked, and lied to. Who do you believe? Where do you turn? The local police? Not likely since the town's only officer recently raped you and no one believes you.
** Contains Minor Spoilers **
What transpires leaves you on the edge of your seat at times, startles you at times, makes your skin crawl at times, but leaves so many open ends. Like, what was on the disk? Why was "the disk" the reason that so many people were killed? I was very shocked that this was not answered. Why was the doctor killed? Did he know something? How did she walk away unscathed after being drenched in gasoline when things around here were blowing up?
*****
Overall a good movie to watch at night in the dark, but don't expect a whole lot and you won't be left disappointed.
Semper Fi (2001)
Excellent and Amazing
This movie was incredible. I have never been in the service, but have had many friends who are in all branches of the military. This movie was so uplifting and had such a strong message. I have a teenage son, and I wished he would have watched.
The acting was superb. I felt what these guys and girls were feeling as they struggled to find themselves, their place in their unit, their inner worth and ultimately they were faced with a test that would make or break them. Could they do it?
Despite their backgrounds, they had to dig deep and learn to work together, learn to help others, learn ethnic tolerance and diversity and come to find out what "Semper Fi" means.
I hope this movie comes out on video.
Save the Last Dance (2001)
EXCELLENT and MEANINGFUL MOVIE
I really enjoyed this film. Sean Patrick Thomas and Julia Stiles were wonderful in this movie which combined dancing, the reality of interracial relationships, and following your dreams.
I felt the depiction of Sara moving to inner city Chicago was fairly real. She attends a high school wherein she is only one of about 10 white students. She is open-minded enough to want to make friends and finds herself being taken under Chenille's wing. She find out that Derek, a boy she has already exchanged verbal sparring with, is Chenille's brother.
Sara and Derek find that they have some things in common, mostly that they have dreams that they aren't sure they can achieve. Through their friendship, they ultimately learn that you can do, or be, whatever you want if you just put your mind to it and work hard. Sara and Derek are color-blind and fall in love based upon a deep respect and admiration for one another.
However, all is not roses. They face negativity from most of Derek's family and friends. They don't understand how Derek can be with a "white" woman, and accuse Sara of "stealing" one of the few *good* black men left. They have to make a decision. Are they in it together? Are they strong enough to work towards their goals and be in a relationship? Can they get past that everyone else thinks they should not be together?
This movie contains phat dance scenes, a phat soundtrack, laughs, tears (I cried three times), some positive moral decisions (as well as a few negative), and most of all hope.
I would recommend this movie to anyone over the age of 16.
