I saw this Iowa-produced independent film at a public screening. It is a thoughtful character-driven story. It is, at one level, a "boy meets girl" story, exploring two people of very different backgrounds and whether their relationship can survive. The filmmakers take the story in unexpected directions and leave the audience guessing the outcome until the last moment.
I thought that the acting was largely on-point and the cinematography had some striking scenes. The filming locations were well-selected. On a quality theater sound system, the soundtrack had subtle nuances, particularly in authentic background environmental sounds.
This was an independent film that was shot on quite a small budget (I know this from the screening). A budget ten or 100 times the size would have provided some production value opportunities, but it would not have changed the fundamental story and message of the film.
If you are looking for action adventure and slick special effects, this is not the movie for you. But if you are looking for thoughtful drama, character insights, and a serious message, it is worth your time.
