One of the best episodes of mob psycho 100

Warning: Spoilers
This series shows that it can cover other genres of film just as well as action and comedy. In this case it's romance: I honestly can't decide wether this is my favourite episode or not because my other favourite episodes (the 2 last episodes of season 1) where in a totally different genre. Anyway, this is an excellent start to the season. I just love this series!

An Absolute Gem for this Show and Anime in General

Warning: Spoilers
I'll start off by saying this is my absolute favorite character-driven episode in the show. This episode really highlights everything Mob Psycho does best. The writing is brilliant, creative, and cohesive. The theme of planting seeds for future growth is immediately prevalent (takes on a whole new meaning by the finale of the season), and we get hints of Mob starting to think for himself and question Reigen more frequently. The callbacks to the first season with Mezato and the psycho helmet cult, the "Get a clue" line, love letters, and student council hijinks are handled very well and never come off as heavy-handed. The comedic bits all hit, especially the election preparation montage and Mob's "speech".

However, what really impressed me in this episode was how heartfelt and nuanced the romance writing was. Mob's relationship with Emi is developed so well in such a short time, and the eventual reveal that Mob turned Emi's "proposal" down but still genuinely wanted to spend time with her makes it that much more believable and endearing. Emi's betrayal is truly effective after we see how much Mob's mood and daily life had improved over the course of the week. Her brutal honesty really forces Mob to reflect on his values and what he wants to prioritize. This leads to a beautiful moment of character development for Mob where he finally stands up for something he deeply believes, outwardly expressing his profound emotional depth in the face of opposition. The emotional climax of the episode is incredibly satisfying and holds real weight in the context of the story (Mob deliberately reveals his psychic powers to someone for the first time since Tsubomi; art design, animation, and music are all spectacular and are used very effectively). Mob serving as literal inspiration for Emi to continue writing was a really touching way to end the episode. I really wish we got to see more of this throughout the second season, but I'm sure it'll come back around in the third. This is an absolute gem of an episode, and is no doubt one of the best in the entire show.
