Nor good or bad, but confusing
Near-L5 August 2019
From the excessive long scenes with confusing intercalated video and song edits to the Zendaya Disney drug addicted ritual music video it was a very weird way to finish a season. No sense of closure whatsoever and just all over the place. But a lot of great moments were finale worth it and i am looking forward season 2... but they should have definitely wrapped up at least some of the loose ends. So basically a rollercoaster of high quality television to weird and out of place fantasy. Zendaya is just amazing tho. Great episode, not so great finale.

Warning: Spoilers
This was a really good end to what's been a good first season. I feel like this could've been the best episode of the season because it had some really amazing moments in there but there were also some issues that held it back. The main one was of course the music video like what on earth was that. I admire the show for its creativity and adventurousness but that really wasn't it. There were also pacing issues I thought, with cuts between different periods of time and different events seeming out of place and a bit confusing and disjointed. Also, I haven't brought this up even though it's been evident all season because I haven't really minded it but this episode kinda took the mick. That camera track into people's faces was waaayyyy overdone. This show definitely is very good in terms of its shooting and choreography but yeah I think that one trademark shot was just done way too much. Nonetheless, there were some brilliant parts such as the montage with Rue's mum's speech interspersed between various shots of a lot of the characters we've gotten to know. The dialogue in this show is just so so good. Music was once again on point. Character moments were emotionally engaging, especially between Rue and Jules. Rue finally got to interact with Nate and I honestly hope he gets what's coming to him. Nate had a moment of pure insanity that was frankly scary. It's things like this that makes these characters so believable and complex and I think this show's writing is just impeccable. In terms of character anyway, because let's be real, there's not much of a plot, which is probably why this didn't feel much like a finale. Character threads got left open because this isn't a show that really concerns itself with plot. It's about the people in it. I really hope Zendaya wins awards for her performance because it's really been stunning. Acting all round has been incredible for this show. I'm definitely looking forward to season two because season one has shown that there is so much potential for this show to move up several steps in quality.

I can't wait for season 2!
statingfacts5 August 2019
This entire season was so good! I understand where some people are coming from saying this last episode was dissatisfying or left a lot of open ended plots, but this show deserves the praise and attention just for how raw and realistic they portray real issues people face. This show ha depicted depression, anxiety, addiction, toxic masculinity, sexuality, and self-realization so realistically. I'd be surprised to hear if no one saw themselves in one of the characters. I found myself feeling an overwhelming amount of emotion during some scenes because it reminded me of situations I've experienced in my actual life. I'm truly looking forward to the next season.

Hypnotic!

Warning: Spoilers
I give this a 10 because that's what it deserves, it works for me perfectly for a season ending and a transition for the second one, they already knew that this was going to be good. I don't understand the people about being confused about the last scene because it was beautiful, performatic in every single way, Rue is heartbroken she just left the girl that she loves and the only one who makes her feel good because she cares about the people that loves her and she had the idea because of what Nate said to her, his words really hurt her. The outfits color of the last scene were really interesting, with the dance moves it looked like a heart beating really hard and that pile of people and almost dragging and making her suffocated and eventually she jumps. I really love endings where you can interpret what you want.

Really loved the finale, but..
CMTempest5 August 2019
Damn was there not a lot in the way of closure. Every storyline was left very open ended (except for maybe Kat's), so there is definitely much to speculate about.

It's going to be a long wait for S2. I have faith that the payoff will be worth it though. I love this series, and this was a powerful and moving end to season 1 regardless.

it's a great finale but still confusing

Warning: Spoilers
A lot of people are saying that this episode was a disappointment or not worth the watch which i can get but it's not that whatsoever. i mean yeah it's confusing but if you still understand it in the slightest bit it's a very good episode. personally i liked it a lot, the cliffhangers of Fez, and Jules leaving Rue were very good and definitely made this episode not boring. also, one of the better scenes and acting performances from Jacob Elrodi (Nate Jacobs) when he was fighting with his dad and his screaming tantrum made it feel so terrifying and it just blew me away. i recommend watching this episode as it is a pretty good finale

Hmmm

Warning: Spoilers
You may feel confused during the episode - closely to the end, but I think they want us to wonder... Was it real? A dream? Flashback? This episode was very artistic in my opinion and I liked it.... The scenes, colours... Everything... You can see there's more to it than just screenwriting and acting... It was beautifully done; filmed, portrayed by actors etc... And trust me on this, I don't like when they sing on tv shows etc... At first I was confused, but the performance... The song... The emotion was so good! It left me emotional... I don't mean crying... But it hit me... Deep inside... The pain Rue was going through... How she lost control again... Ever since I've been listening to the song and I even rewatched the scene on YouTube... It was so different... Loved it.

Great season but last episode, huh?
jontn7775 August 2019
The show was very solid throughout the season. It was very enjoyable in a dark sort of way, the cinematography and acting are amazing, as well as the storytelling and character depth and development. This last episode however, is very unsatisfying as there are a lot of plots that were left open. I'm aware there'll be a second season but some closure with at least some of the characters would've been nice. It seems as if we're back where we started. Also, the jumps between the party and flashbacks (I assume) were very confusing and some scenes are unclear whether and when they actually happened or if they were imaginary. Several cliffhangers. The season as whole was great, but the last episode really left me dissatisfied, I hope this doesn't become the norm with HBO shows, I'm looking at you GoT.

Just amazing. Like the whole season.
Lou-Series5 August 2019
Also, people complaining about the time jumps, REALLY? Those time jumps if you pay attention were perfectly placed and there is 0 confusion about when it happened. If you want movies and shows to treat you like idiots go watch Riverdale or some other show like that. There are plenty of those and that's where you belong.

Why would you do this?
mjd_sleman_alex9 January 2020
I loved this show.. The music, the characters and their back stories, the acting.. It was all pretty good.. But this last episode? Like what was that?! I felt like it was irrelevant and didn't deliver anything but a lame music video that I don't know why they thought it will be a good idea to make.. Way too much music and flash backs that confuses you and leave you bored and just wanting this episode to end.. Very disappointed.

Extremely disappointing finale
mooveephantom11 March 2022
This season was already skating on thin ice for me. There is some very stupid and unbelievable story plot points and some very tiresome characters. But some of the teen/adult issues that are dealt with and also some good acting have kept it from cracking through.

This episode 8 finale however was just ridiculous and borderline unwatchable. Literally nothing happens except for some side character developments. The whole episode felt like it turned into musical theatre. It felt like some retrospective about the people on the show that didn't really matter. There was no point. Self indulgent, repetitive, and highly pretentious. My friends and I literally started laughing during the final act and musical number. Downright silly.

If season 2 doesn't improve quickly, there will be no reason to continue on with all this.

Ok it's been a busy week for me but I loved this episode - already saw it 3 times!
UniqueParticle8 August 2019
Great season finale to a great show filled with gripping emotions and inspiration! A lot of well done acting, cinematography, cool vibes, and I am happy with everything that happens to Nick (Jacob Elordi) he did incredible as a guy with anger problems. I don't really have complaints, I love anything about young people, it's always intrigued me. No matter what, I loved Euphoria even if others didn't.

Warning: Spoilers
So people are bothered by the bizarre way the episode was edited and put out but I think it was more of an artistic choice but that's not the problem my one problem is why did Jules have to hurt rue like that I'm pressed but other than that it was amazing

Amazing episode!
kcrabtree5 August 2019
No spoilers. I completely disagree with the other reviews except for the comments about the confusing timeline switching (flashbacks). I love this show and can't wait until season 2. Acting, cinematography, storyline, and did I say ACTING...All amazing! They didn't tie up loose ends but that is what a cliffhanger is about. I want more!!!

Simply brilliant ending to the season that I did not see coming

One of the better final scenes I've seen in my time perfectly capped off the season. Just a brilliant illustration of a relapse, I've had my issues with this show but that has just permanently won my heart, goosebumps.

Amazing Finale
auwilliams-981596 August 2019
Some people aren't fans of the editing or are confused with the chronology, but it's really beside the point of the episode. Storylines and timelines were woven beautifully, and the climax with Jules and Rue was a heartbreaking depiction of how addiction can take different forms. The order of events was clear by the end, and ultimately mattered very little to the point of the episode and the show. Also, god I can't wait for labrinth's score for this.

Just got to bizarre for me
mpboylanjr-540385 August 2019
Talk about weird. This show over the past few weeks got more odd. The dream like flashback scenes intertwined with reality and the plot got very muddled to where I was just tuned out. The whole story went from interesting to over the top and unrealistic to say the least. The camera work was well done, but just kind of went by the wayside because of the bizarre nature of where the show went. I don't know. I see people rating these episodes extremely highly, but I cannot for the life of me see why. I didn't by any means hate the show, but thought it got to far into the strange and fell off to where the first 4-5 episodes were going.

Idm a cliffhanger but this was too much
tamaraisameal7 December 2020
I'll review the season overall but this episode was particularly annoying. I love the program for many reasons but this episode didn't satisfy me the way I'd hoped.

First of all. I wasn't the biggest fan of the structure. There's about 6/7 scenes intermixing and it's too much as they're flashbacks and present time and some of the flashbacks are of people two or three times over. The perspective has always been rues so idek what was real or imaginary.

Secondly, I know the series already had two seasons planned from the pilot but only one loose end was tied and it was the most inconsequential character. There are still so many darker story plots that didn't play out. And as I'm writing this we're in a pandemic so lord knows when we'll see the final result. It wasn't a bad episode at all. It held a lot of importance for the main character Rue and shared a very beautiful and intensely emotional portrayal of her struggle which pushed at in the special episode.

I just wish we knew what happened to a few more key characters and they're equally as interesting if not more in some cases.

just no

Love this show. But, come on now, this was definitely the worst episode of the season. I mean, WAY too much background music / soundtrack in lieu of dialogue and plot. Felt like a silly montage made by a pretentious art school student.

Let's hope season two is better.

Hell of a spectacle

Whatever about lack of narrative importance (there clearly is) this episode was a rollercoaster to watch. Incredible visuals and set pieces. Thats how you do a finale. Left me like "whoah"

Good on rewatch
moustachepimp8 August 2019
This episode is definitely divisive, and one first watch I had a negative reaction to this episode. I felt the episode before this one setup a finale that would be plot driven, and was conforming more to a standard narrative. Basically the penultimate episode felt more like 'the wire' to me than the episodes that came before. However on rewatch this episode has some very beautiful, and memorable moments that may be the flagships of the series. Although it was 'boring' from a plot narrative it is very enjoyable to rewatch. Furthermore if you look at the tone of the series, a plot driven narrative to make the series 'not boring' it kind of missing the point. I mainly feel like this episode bookended with the penultimate make it definitely jarring to watch. But thinking about it it is the penultimate episode that is out of place with the rest of the series.

On first viewing I also got overwhelming anxiety from a few of the scenes, that left a bad taste in my mouth. But rewatching it, and knowing where the turns are you can better appreciate the craftsmanship of this episode. I mainly wanted to write a review to offset negative reviews to this episode, as I feel that maybe this episode in particular is going to get a bad wrap that is doesn't deserve.

Last 2 sodes were perfection -
orcinussr28 February 2022
Plus any episode that contains less Rue and more, everyone else, is, and I'm sorry to say this, much better in general - but to use the school play as a device for flashback was MASTERFULL - I honestly don't even love the show as a whole, but I can't deny it is probably the best production around - even moreso than 1883 and that's saying Alot.
