Not as bad as last years musical but still pretty awful. I did enjoy the choreography in the dance off but other than that the songs were just terrible. I don't hate musicals as I have a few favorites and I watched Glee but when shows like this venture into the musical territory its very hit or miss. At least they progressed through the story a bit but it could have had more ground covered if it wasn't for the musical. I'm just glad we're finally getting near the end of the Farm mystery as that storyline really bogs down the show. Hopefully all this wait will amount to something worth the headache.

Riverdale Masters Musical Tofu
tails23421 June 2019
Imagine thinking that a musical is the moment where Riverdale gets "too crazy" or "too not normal". Especially when in the past 2 Seasons we have had 3 cases of arson, two murderers, a mind controlling table top game that has a supernatural overseer, a principal who held students at gun point, a teenage fight club, a high schooler who owns a lavish speakeasy, and a flashback episode where the modern characters play their parents, and yet most think that the musical is where it became unrealistic.
As per tradition now Riverdale has given us yet another mediocre musical episode. The actual music itself ranges from "decent" to "bland". While no track stuck out as ear grating, most lack impact. From flaccid production to lifeless performances to some occasionally truly terrible arrangements, the entire thing feels like they had a few decent hooks and rushed the rest. The opening hook and "Seventeen" serve as the best hooks and by the end they are so drug into the ground that I wouldn't even want to listen to them outside of the episode itself due to overexposure.
The dances are lame, cinematography is by the numbers, and the writing is typical Riverdale inconsistent nonsense. Nearly at its conclusion Riverdale has not given us any concrete facts about "The Farm" and the fact that "The farm" has taken over both the Lodge Mayor plot and the G&G plot makes that fact even more frustrating. There is a fine line between giving the audience too little and giving them too much, and Riverdale has been stuck on its first step of what "The farm" is for so long that it ends up crossing that line on both sides, giving us no satisfactory answers or questions. There is also other fluff that is just incorporated in order to pad what is already a lengthy season. Why are Toni and Cheryl fighting? Not even they know, and it leads to unnecessary drama that borders on unwatchable. To be fair, most of the relationship drama in the season can be described similarly.
Riverdale continues to be consistently inconsistent, and this musical episode doesn't help anything. Much as is tradition with Season 3, Riverdale can't commit to one outlandish concept without falling back onto their old lame tricks to try and keep some sort of plot consistency, and that in of itself makes it feel half baked and lame.

Stick to the story, not songs...

This was one musical too much. Why musical episodes. Stick to the dramatic story. This is far from an Elvis musical or any old style MGM dance movies. I am only lenient because I like the Betty-Jughead romance here and that Archie-Josie relationship is ok (as we can say: Archie is the new Alan M, if we remember a certain Archie Comics related movie in 2001...).
Now, on to the next episode, should be better...

OMG what the heck. I love this show and then they go and ruin it by doing a musical episode. I got ten minutes in and turned it off. Stop messing up the series with singing. Nobody sings their life story in reality.
Please spare us the "Glee" episodes

I expect better things from producer Greg Berlanti. This episode is yet another trite "musical" episode where, in a series where all the characters already make poor choices, they incorporate the score of a half-decent musical and co-opt it into their story line to turn the show into a poor version of "Glee." They did this with slightly better success with last season's use of "Carrie," but the score from "Heathers" is not as good and the writing seems to struggle to fit the story into the score.
I like it!

As a musical theatre lover and Heathers stan i came in with low expectations. Turns out i could've had way bigger hopes and still be impressed! They did great! Their singing was improved by a whole lot, and the autotune was way less than last year. Casey actually singing made me extremely happy. The plot was great, the music was ok, and they all had alot of fun! 10/10 would watch again, keep 'em comin'! This is not for musical haters, y'all hate anything with music in it. This episode ain't for you. This is for musical geeks or Heathers fans! I'm very impressed with the whole deal, so let's not give it 1 star because "bleeuuurgh it's a mUsiCaL i HaTe iT"
Riverdale is getting worse

WHYYYYYYYY

I can't imagine a sane human being watching this downgraded version of glee and being like "Oh yeah let's air this". I mean just why do they have to sing every 5 seconds, this show already has trouble being relevant to most teens, this just puts it over the edge.
Loved it!!

I don't understand why people don't like the musical episodes! It was well done this year, and Cole Sprouse's singing was awesome! (Casey Cott and Lili Reinhart are such strong singers, too!) I loved all the songs a lot more than last year's episode, and overall I thought it had a lot of great plot and character development!! 9/10 for me!
Has no one ever seen heathers?!?

Warning: Spoilers
Yes, I do agree the musical was a little much... but their take on heathers was pretty great !
Had they done the heathers thing without the musical aspect I feel the episode would have been that much better and would have intrigued a different generation to watch the movie heathers!
So much cringe

Didn't they get the hint the first time?

If I'm not mistaken, the first attempt at a musical episode was not well received. And now, as the series continues to degrade from a charming story of small town teenagers to a soap opera of full blown sociopaths, a lot of viewers are hanging on by a thread. I don't think this episode helped at all.
My ears are ringing

For a show that churns out a lot of terrible episodes, this one was by far the worst. They better stop making/letting the actors sing, literally none of them can! No matter how much auto tune they use, they will never sound good. A complete and utter shambles! If only they could stick to what they know, bad acting, pointless, unresolved storylines, unlikable characters, countless unnecessary movie references, unnatural dialogue, messy plots,...Shall I go on?
Fun to see something different

Even MUCH better than the first one.

This musical episode got me, the soundtrack, the main song, the final, everything. Way much better than the Carrie one.
We had NO songs spanish dub so this movement really got me happy so i could enjoy the show without those disgusting attempts of singing.

There are no words to describe how truly awful this episode waa

It angers me that so many good shows have been cancelled recently and this drivel is still on and I'm still watching it. Not anymore what was the last straw. Awful, awful, AWFULl!! The greatest shame is that I think there are some incredibly talented people in this show, just horrific storylines.
Filler episode, but the end 2 minutes are great!

Enjoyable filler episode with the regular amounts of cringe, but if you're still watching then that's to be expected.
Got very excited to see Chad Michael Murray though, he should be an interesting and totally not what I expected Edgar.
