Yeah. I'm the New Girl (#3.1)
ComedyFan201025 August 2019
That was disappointing. The show has been great the last two seasons and this episode is a huge decline in quality. It was pretty boring and jumping all over the place. The dialogues were horrible. Even acting seemed to be bad, but this is more likely because it is hard to act well with those horrible lines. It was pretentiously over dramatic. In addition to that I don't like the new girl. She is so useless and yet she is everywhere. I still have hopes that this season will be good. Could have just been a bad introduction episode but when the action starts it may get better.

Why is there a new girl...?
Wililjam29 August 2019
There's quite literally no need for a new girl to come into the school and have her be the show's commentator. There are so many characters already who are able to hold up this show. So the fact that they felt the need to add a 'new girl' is extremely frustrating to me.

Hopefully 'the new girl' isn't the main focus of this season, as I feel like she doesn't really add a whole lot to the already established story of the show.

Okay
treehugger-9562527 August 2019
I haven't finished the whole season yet. I hope it ends good. But with this episode I feel like maybe it should of ended at season 2 or they should of wrote something else. I thought season 2 was good. My main issue is this new British girl at school ani. And how she's the new girl but all sudden she is let into the tight main group and knows everything or almost everything.or it seems like she knows. It's really unrealistic and I worry that her new character might be the downfall for the new season 3

Ani what? Ani who?
dannehh25 August 2019
You have all these characters, and now in season 3, you decide to throw in a new one... she feel so out of place! She is only here to talk to the audience about what's going on. And that is just poor film making! And from what I have read it doesn't get any better!

Was looking forward to this season, but that one character destroyed it all!

This season looks very promising so far!
Splarke2223 August 2019
Only one episode in and you can already see how much the quality of Season 3 has improved from the last! So many exciting and mysterious storylines with tons of potential, along with covering more serious/pressing issues, Season 3 is looking great!

A great start to Season 3 but
Mocnaocao23 August 2019
Huge fan of 13 reasons why till now...... I'll still give it a chance as I'm invested in the characters from previous seasons and love the show. I'm sorry but the new character Ani!!!! I could easily give 13 Reasons why NOT Ani and how everything about her character is a big mistake for the show.... but I don't want to be cruel! Only just watched first episode and the storyline is great....I just wish she wasn't there so going to try and ignore Ani from now on but if her presence is still as annoying in the next episode I think I might have to give the rest of season 3 a miss and pretend that it all finished at the end of season 2

I'm literally on the second episode and I can't get past Ani. This series should have ended after season one. So painful. Ani def is running this for me. Don't care who she is or why she's there. I just wish she wasn't.

Headache for a show that was great
mackansfilm25 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The first season smart and brilliant and the second concluded the Hannah Baker story with a decent storyline. Season 3 is sickness that you can't get rid off. ANI, the new girl, doesn't need to be in the show. She's just the narrator. A boring and dreadful character that doesn't belong with these character. A good way to ruin a good show and also a way to proof that the writer didn't have a clue to make of this series after the renewal. Sadly, there is a fourth season and that will kill the show for real. Disgusting.

The addition of Ani was jarring but I can understand it from the creator's POV
Havan_IronOak7 June 2020
This show has a stellar ensemble cast and I was amazed that there was a second season after the entire contents of the book was covered in the first season. Yet they managed to find other aspects of the story that added to the overall experience in season2 and the final episode of season 2 was one of the best TV episodes I've ever seen. Yet it clearly left us wanting a season three.

Now we have that and it's a bit disappointing that they concentrate so much effort into creating a new character and switching to a mystery style format.

One of the joys of season1 was that we knew what happened. One of the major characters had killed herself and we delved into the underlying reasons. Season two did that again. However Season three, in attempting to be a mystery, ruins that successful formula. We don't know what happened so the story-telling requirements are different. The writers are still great storytellers but they lost some of their appeal. Artistic transition cuts where past characters and future characters walk through the same scene work great in a retrospective story where it's clear what's happening. No so much in a mystery that's being told in past tense from episode 1. . Its often unclear what is real and what is fantasy. Plus all the characters are lying to some extent. If we can't believe what we hear OR what we see, how are we to really follow the story? Creative ambiguity worked for the creators in seasons 1 & 2 because the audience KNEW what happened. In season 3 it felt exploitative and manipulative... and it left more than a few viewers uncertain to just what DID happen. I LOVE the show and am now on my third viewing of this season. I can see that they wanted a fresh look at Bryce, the villain of the first two seasons, and none of the regular ensemble would be able to give us that. In that regard I understand the addition of Ani. But she plays way too significant a role and what REALLY happened is as muddled at the end of the season as it is earlier on. In my book that's a story-telling FAIL.

Who is Ani? Where'd she come from? Where has she been? Why is she here now? So strange...10 stars cuz I am still anxious to see what will happen this season...and the show is still good. Just hope Ani's origin is revealed at some point.

Painfully awful
nishu-0256824 August 2019
I went in with no expectations but this somehow was even worse. This is actually unwatchable. I don't know if the dialogue's always been this awful but I can't get myself to keep watching. Ani is a HORRENDOUS addition to the equation and I was hoping it was gonna be a different testimony each episode but turns out she's the narrator for the entire season so don't know who signed off on that.

This should've ended. F*** Ani.
FrankHonest24 August 2019
What happened to the good old days when series finished after the premise was over... 13 reasons should've finished after the 13 tapes. It's just been stretched and killed, like suits, GoT, House of Cards and US office. Dragged on after they should've been done because the story's original premise expired.

Ps: Ani is the WORST. She is SO smug. So arrogant. So two faced. She is unbearable. God I hate her so much. She's worse than Proff Umbridge from Harry Potter. She makes every scene she's in as irritating as finger nails on a chalk board. I want to strangle her smug face every time it's on screen.

Episode 1
projectsgamer18 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The writing on this episode so far is better than season 2 of writing so far it is fleshed out really well The cops question Clay about Bryce's disappearance from the homecoming game Clay starts to remember the aftermath of Spring Fling The only Thing I hate is that we are forced to care about ani if we were not forced to care about her I would of probably like her character a little bit more ok I am little surprised with this that score tho holy omg so good everything else I enjoyed besides ani I like the past scenes with her but the present good start to season 3 so far.

The addition of Ani is a bit jarring
CrystalDust12327 August 2019
So I understand that the show is trying to move on from Hannah with this Bruce storyline, but I didn't completely warmnto this episode.

Mainly because this new girl Ani, seems to have waltzed in out of nowhere and is now getting involved with a group of characters that have been through so much together - Hannah's tapes, the trial, etc. All of their experiences is what helped to connect them, but suddenly we're meant to believe that Ani is one of them and seems to know all of their secrets?

We hardly know her, but as the audience are we expected to treat her like one of them? She seems out of place so far, but will keep watching to see how it unfolds.

Hmmm...not so sure about season 3
joellyn-mumcian2 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I'm getting the feeling that Netflix is just trying to cash in on the first two Seasons...where the series should have ended. The addition of Ani as narrator is disconcerting, especially since Hannah's voice was such a driving force of the first two seasons. This seems so contrived. The girl who plays her is a good actress, just not sure this really works.

Completely ruined by Ani
sammylevy18 September 2019
Why does no one tell Ani to "mind her own f*@!king business"??? It's utterly ridiculous to expect the audience to believe that after all the group has been through and the secrets they've kept, they would ever share anything with a stranger. It makes it worse that she's British, and I'm English so that's saying something!
