Delicately told, making it pretty slow, but with tenderness

After watching Mothering, I was surprise to notice that the Vimeo view count was coming right up on the 100k mark. I wasn't surprised due to the quality of the film, but more than it is really slow, mostly silent, awkwardly stiff, and doesn't really have any moments that take it out of that space - very much the opposite of the type of short film that online audiences often gravitate towards.

Opening with an awkward silence looking at a door, the film introduces a foster home with a new children. It is the type of British home where clocks tick, a kettle boils, and noises like that might be the only ones - I say this knowing these type of homes. The stiffness of the situation is well delivered, because it actually puts us in the space of the young girl, yet again put in with strangers we presume. Her vulnerability is well performed and developed, as is the kindness and lack of fuss from the older woman. Very little 'happens' within the film, but it is very delicate and tender, and I was surprised by how much I took from so many small and simple moments.
