Drum Wave: Unnerving
Platypuschow9 April 2023
Plot

A young pianist is forced to confront her fear of motherhood when she marries into a remote island community with bizarre fertility rituals.

Cast

Nothing to report, though Jenny Wu was competent.

Verdict

Australian made Drum Wave is haunting and visually impressive though ultimately arthouse and nonsensical. If it didn't have its aesthetics going for it the short would have absolutely nothing. It's pretty and presents itself as deep but truth be told it's bland and goes nowhere.

Rants

Do I have a fear of fatherhood? Is that why I have no crotch goblins to my name? Nope. I have no fear, I just cannot abide the smells nor the sounds nor the responsibility nor the expense nor the immaturity nor the braggadociousness. Children are an STD, I ain't no fool I wrap my tool!

The Good
  • Visually appealing

The Bad
  • Rather boring
  • Serves little point.

beautiful

The fair definition in this case is beautiful. The only big problem - the story seems be a pretext for a fertility ritual against the desire of a young pianist to not have children. And the party atmosphere , the tension in the young couple, the dance are pieces for help to ignore the absence of an authentic story or the improvised end. But it is just beautiful and the aura of mistery works very well against the forced episode of the pills.
