Enjoyable

Warning: Spoilers
Jack DiMercurio secretly wants the life - and wife Liz - of his rich friend Andy. They have a reunion with some friends at a cottage on Lake Michigan when a fight breaks out between the two men. Tragedy ensues and somehow, this moment allows Jack to have the life that he always wanted. But is it all he thought it would be?

How much of peoples' lives do we really know? How much do we grow away from people? And how much do we really need to be jealous of the grass being greener on the other side?

The first fill-length film for director Kevin Del Principe (who co-wrote this with Nikki Brown, who appears in the movie as Kate Green), is an intriguing low budget drama that looks way better than it's $60,000 reported budget would suggest.

Broken Glass
jordan224022 February 2021
I watched this one just to see if it was as bad as the ratings. It was. If the 10/10 reviews aren't fake, then I'll watch it 50 more times. The one thing it does is keep you wondering if something is going to happen, so I did watch it all the way through. Nothing does. The performances by the 'Jack' and 'Liz' actors aren't horrible, but I'll be surprised if anyone in this film can make a living as an actor. As for the ending - it probably deserves a lower score than the movie overall.

Dreadful, tedious borefest I would not wish this on my worst enemy. Not so much Thriller but limp Drama.

Not much to say about this one except if you watch it you will regret losing an hour and a half of sleep!

What the hell was that???
al-144-893688 October 2020
This film is beyond bad. The storyline is ridiculous & I've seen better acting at a special kids school play.

AVOID at all costs, if you manage to watch the whole film without turning off or falling asleep you deserve a medal.

The Not So Talented Mr. Ripley
guzz6211 September 2020
It's basically a budget 'The Talented Mr. Ripley'. A bit slow and a disappointing ending. Not really worth watching.

Don't Believe The 10 Star Reviews, Unless You're an Insomniac
Mehki_Girl7 March 2021
A movie full of nobodies, only the Andy character looks somewhat familiar.

Zero talent displayed in our behind the film. Although I'll give the sound guy and the cinematographer some.

Two boring, talentless actors playing two boring talentless hacks.

Give it a pass. I let it run because I was playing on my phone and way too lazy to change the movie.

Sleeper movie, just not meant in the usual context
unboundpromethius16 September 2020
This movie put me to sleep, and I fought sleep hoping it would lead to some deeper meaning to be gleaned for my effort. My wasted 90 minutes would have been more beneficial in sleep time. I did not want to be so mean to the movie or maybe my tastes for quality movies have changed as I used to be able to watch anything when I did not value my leisure time as much.

WOW
juliewoods-9496729 September 2020
The script was intriguing and soul searching about class struggle and how it is difficult to overcome your past. The cinematography was beautiful. The way the shots were done really increased the beauty of the setting and enhanced the progress of the plot. The sound work was great especially since so much of the filming was outside. Each actor seemed to become their character. I heard that the writers/directors had only a $60,000 budget. If that's so this was a phenomenal work of script writing and film making.

Makes one think
delprincipe-3232116 September 2020
Choices to be made make this thriller one to think about long after this movie ends. Unexpressed feelings and unaddressed anger of main character Jack is the start. Other characters like Andy have their character flaws as well. College friends reunite with their worst traits exposed. One is doing well financially yet not happy. Another wants to be successful and is not ! Relational conflicts from the past to the present leads to tragic consequences and unexpected choices. I Like the thoughts for this movie watcher to ponder it all !

More than worth a look.
gene-969052 March 2023
An intriguing and in depth character study. This is a film made the way films used to be made when the plotlines and characters mattered more that the number of bullets or explosions.

The cinematography belies the budget for this film. It is both beautiful and inviting.

The actors are all more tha believable in their roles. I found myself identifying, either personally or with someone I know, with each of them.

Everything about this feels genuine, from locations and acting to lighting and sound. The sound, by the way, is amazing.

If you have an afternoon or evening and want to spend it with a film rather than just a movie, this is well worth your time.

Smart and tense!
ranbrow15 November 2020
Great film! The slow burn of the fallout from the main character's decisions is mesmerizing and provocative - perhaps because dealing with feeling of isolation and floundering while stretching for missed potential are painful yet universal experiences. This film packages these really challenging themes into a story that is biting, thought-provoking, and rewarding all at once. Shout-out to Chase Fein for conveying Jack's emotions so poignantly through expression and action (Jack isn't a big talker). This film becomes all the more impressive knowing how the writer/director team built it on a shoestring budget. There are so many incisive details in the writing, scene-setting, and use of sound (the faucet!...you'll know what I mean once you watch it) that build the film to its dramatic finish.

Cain and Abel Story
lavatch19 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
In "Up on the Glass," an all-pervasive loneliness is shared by people who believe they know each other, but in fact do not even know themselves. While the focal point is the evolving connection between Jack and Liz, all of the characters would appear to be so remote from one another that their emotional pain of isolation is palpable.

In the early part of the film, most of the dialogue is between the two friends, Jack DiMercurio and Andy Shelton, who almost seem like brothers. Since college, their lives have split off in different directions. Andy married Liz, who at one point appeared to be destined for a relationship with Jack. For his part, Jack is a loner who can't hold a job. Apparently, Jack also has a temper for he was fired from his last construction job for assaulting his boss.

After a dustup between Andy and his alcoholic friend Moze, Andy and Jack are left alone to battle one another like Cain and Abel. Andy is the aggressor, constantly jabbing at Jack. While Andy has been a successful and ruthless businessman, Jack is the introvert who is unwilling to take the kind of risks that Andy craves. Inevitably, their differences surface, with Andy especially resentful of Jack's superior intellect. In a struggle on the beach, Andy pins Jack to the ground, punching him mercilessly. In defense, Jack grabs a log and strikes an unintentional death blow to the head of Andy. While not justifiable homicide, the killing was clearly manslaughter.

At this point in the film, Jack renews his association with Liz, who claims that her marriage is over to the philanderer Andy. And yet, she is troubled that his wedding ring has been left behind. She knows that two women had spent the night in the Shelton home, and she knows that Jack is withholding information about the whereabouts of Andy.

Two of the most interesting characters in the film were the two local women, Becca and Kate. Again, the women exude an unbearable loneliness. When they join Andy and Jack at the beach house, Andy and Becca have sex in the bedroom. But Jack and Kate fall asleep on the couch in the living room. As she is leaving the next morning, Kate says to Jack in the most mournful tone imaginable, "Thank you."

Jack has done a sloppy job in covering his tracks. Bob, the local chairman of the homeowners association, has witnessed Jack bundling up a large object on the beach. Andy's car and body will eventually be discovered with Jack's DNA.

As he steadfastly refuses to tell the truth to Liz and is starring across Lake Michigan, Jack has to feel like the loneliest soul on the planet. This was a perfect film concept for the year of COVID.

Michigan magic and mental madness
beverdier5 October 2020
The cinematography alone tells a story. I love this film not only because I live in Michigan but also because it touches upon emotions we recognize and wrestle within us. From the beginning, the characters grab my attention - keeping me captivated until the end when I finally sit back feeling eerie and exhausted. I wish I could find out what happens next!

A Hitchcockian dark tide...
brianbroganart29 March 2021
For those who might be conditioned to the pornography and graphic violence of the movie business, this might not be your Independent film to watch. This movie has a bit of a retro feel to it, like the old classics of the 40's and 50's. The atmosphere slowly builds around this Hitchcockian, character-driven story with its complex tensions and fragile strains between characters. Guilt and misplaced desires hang in the air like a black cloud. A reunion of old friends proves that the passage of time has not been too kind to their psyches. Relationships that were close in the past had developed latent brief shadows - that have now grown cold and palpable. A great deal of communication flows between the lines, loud in the silence of body language. Friends have become strangers that are overly familiar; awkward with old wounds haunting their emotions, morals, and self-control is tested until things fall apart.

A fall out over an old flame sets loose a dark tide, with its ensuing panic and cover-up. The film shows the extent to which we can compromise our values to sate our desires.

I like how films have an unsuspecting character that convinces the viewer of their innocent nature and then turns the good Jekyll into the Hyde monster. It was a refreshing change of pace to watch this Indie film, its music fortified the aural mood of the scenes, and heightened emotional response. The cinematography was crisp, clear and beautiful. I'd recommend this for something different, at least in a vintage sort of way. It gives attention to symbolic details and has a well-thought-out plot and message. I am interested to see what comes next for this writer/director.

Dark Truth about Ourselves

Up on the Glass provides a realistic outlook on the destructive nature of our quest for a better life. Subtle symbolism fused with intricate character study culminates in a cathartic, yet ambiguous ending. Definitely worth a watch!

Fantastic film!
ethanhuggins-3528112 October 2020
This film had an amazing tone and great look. The photography in the film gives a more professional vibe on a low budget scale. As an indie film, the length of the film is one that can be digested quickly, but leaves you wanting more. A plot that doesn't get seen in films, the character work of the main stars helps propel the film, and gives the story a deeper meaning.

One of my Favorite Films
fstalupp7 April 2021
This film is the perfect slow-burn indie story, one of the best I have seen in a while. In our world of profuse Disney+ BS, this film is a reassurance that truly moving and heart-rending work is still out there. Amazing film.

A Movie That Keeps You in Suspense
emhopkins-9541331 May 2021
Throughout the movie, you wonder Jack's true motive. Does he want his ex-lover to reflect on past decisions and experiences? Was he truly Andy's friend? Did heartbreak tale a big mental toll on him and lead to such thoughtless actions? Ultimately, viewers can decide what to believe.

Amazing dark characters and cinematography
sakins-6050615 April 2021
Loved getting to see the progression of the characters which contained light and faker elements. The scenery of this film is incredible especially for an indie film. Didn't see the twist coming and it kept me wanting more.

Both intriguing and relatable!
jeantarry21 June 2021
This movie was intriguing from the beginning! I found Jack, the main character, very relatable as he, as an "outsider", struggled with the conflict that ensued as his fantasy life faced off with reality.
