The Online Film Critics Society (Ofcs) has revealed its annual Top Ten List as well as winners of its film awards which was topped by Nomadland. In addition, The Chloé Zhao American wanderlust drama was named Best Picture. Also on the list is Pixar’s Soul which was also named Best Animated Feature.
“This list of nominations showcases the diversity and broad expressiveness of the film community,” said Wesley Lovell, a member of the Governing Committee of Ofcs, and founder of CinemaSight.com. “In a year where nothing was as we expected, and those expectations had to shift, cinema not only maintained its creativity and expansive canvas, but it managed to give new voices a chance to speak louder than they might have in any other year.”
He added, “In our directing category alone, we have four women, each at varying points in their careers, alongside one of the major voices of his generation.

"The only part of you that will endure is your art – if you're good enough..." 1844 Ent. has revealed the official trailer for an indie psychological thriller called Painter, marking the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Cory Wexler Grant. The film stars Betsy Randle as Joanne Marco, a wealthy art collector and benefactor. She discovers a young, unknown painter named Aldis Browne, and becomes obsessed with his success. When his first solo show is deemed a critical failure, he flees. But her obsession develops into a psychosexual relationship fueled by jealousy and delusion, and she lures him back. Co-starring Eric Ladin as Aldis, along with Casey Deidrick and Susan Anton. The cinematography in this is very sneaky, setting up additional eeriness in the composition. Along with the extra creepy, bombastic score in this trailer damn. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Cory Wexler Grant's Painter, direct from 1844's YouTube: Joanne Marco,...

In Season 3 of Netflix’s “Stranger Things,” the Mind Flayer from the Upside Down returns with a vengeance. The Duffer Brothers knew they needed more complex CG animation to pull off the necessary transformations, so they turned to Quebec and Montreal-based RodeoFX for the first time to handle the creature work under the VFX supervision of Martin Pelletier. Yet the showrunners still insisted on maintaining a period-correct monster vibe for their summer of 1985 setting.
“The Duffers said, ‘This year we want to go crazy,'” said Pelletier, who collaborated with Emmy-nominated production VFX supervisor Paul Graff on Season 3. “They had different creatures that they wanted to bring to life that were more complicated. They used to be made of ash particles — a smoky feel. Now they wanted them to be fleshy creatures.”
And the reference they used was John Carpenter’s “The Thing,” a simple yet disgusting-looking animatronic creature with...
