Starz is heading down south with Uncle Clifford.
The Lionsgate-backed premium cable network has ordered Down in the Valley, a half-hour docuseries exploring the Deep South with P-Valley star Nicco Annan set to host. The six-episode series will launch at a date to be determined this year and explore the people, music, culture and stories of the South, per Starz, as the show will feature everything from strip clubs to sex workshops, rap performances and ancient hoodoo rituals.
The order for Down in the Valley arrives as P-Valley — from creator Katori Hall — has been off the air for nearly two years. Sources say production on P-Valley is expected to resume later this year, though the show is not expected to air in 2024.
“P-Valley has authentically captured Southern Black culture in our fictional world of Chuccalisa and piqued the curiosity of our Pynk Posse to learn more,” said Kathryn Busby,...

Outlander‘s Sam Heughan is getting in the celebratory spirit as the SAG-AFTRA strike comes to an end. The actor known for playing 18th-century Highlander warrior Jamie Fraser took to Instagram to share his excitement. “The strike is over!!” he wrote. “Delighted to be able to work, promote and talk about Acting again…” he added before listing tags for his projects, Outlander, Men in Kilts: A Roadtrip with Sam and Graham, and The Couple Next Door. Along with the caption, he shared three images. The first is of him and costar Caitriona Balfe on the set of Outlander, presumably for the most recent seventh season, which concluded its Part 1 run on August 11. While the season’s first few episodes debuted before the strike, Heughan and the rest of the cast have had to refrain from sharing behind-the-scenes content since July. Part 2 of Season 7 is anticipated to arrive in 2024 with no...

Exclusive: Ridley Scott’s Scott Free has appointed Elyse Seder as EVP and Head of Nonfiction and named EVP Marjorie Chodorov Head of Physical Production.
In the newly created role, Seder will oversee creative, talent and partnerships for nonfiction content. Scott Free has ventured into unscripted programming, most recently with the multi-part Still Missing Morgan for Hulu/ABC News this year, but the company hadn’t had a dedicated nonfiction executive or department in more than eight years. Seder’s hire marks an expansion into the arena.
Meanwhile, Chodorov will be in charge of all aspects of physical and post-production for Scott Free’s TV division. She has been with the company since 2021 as EVP Production, with her role now expanding to include nonfiction and international.
Both Seder and Chodorov will report to Scott Free’s Cco David W Zucker, President of Television Clayton Krueger and President of Film Mike Pruss.

Below, we’re breaking down some possibilities that could be explored should the series be renewed for Season 3 at Starz. (Credit: Starz) Canada When it comes to the show’s Scottish roots and hosts, Canada serves as a prime setting with ties to their home country. [Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Men in Kilts Season 2, Episode 1, “Scottish Influence.”] Sam Heughan and Graham McTavish are leaning into the silly side of their sweet travelogue series Men in Kilts: A Roadtrip with Sam and Graham as Season 2 kicked off with the episode “Scottish Influence.” The half-hour episode opened with a dour Sam, who is nursing a cocktail alone at the bar. Listening to Crowded House’s “Don’t Dream It’s Over,” he begins remembering the good times traveling around Scotland with Graham and recalls his friend suggesting they do it all again. This inspires Sam to pick up his phone, calling Graham, whose ringtone happens to be Outlander‘s theme music, “The Skye Boat Song.” When Sam suggests they follow up on their previous adventures, Graham is open to it but reminds his pal that he’s now halfway around the world in New Zealand. That’s no issue for Sam, who...

“Outlander” might be gearing up for its end, but everybody’s favorite dashing Highland warrior still has a home at Starz. Sam Heughan, the star of the channel’s smash-hit time-travel series, will star in the thriller series “The Couple Next Door” at the premium cabler.
The show, a co-production between Starz and Britain’s Channel 4, is adapted from the Dutch series “New Neighbours,” and stars Heughan as Danny, an “alpha traffic cop” married to glamorous yoga instructor Becka (Jessica De Gouw of “Pennyworth”). When a new couple moves in next door — Evie (Eleanor Tomlinson of “The Outlaws”) and Pete (Alfred Enoch of “Harry Potter” and “How to Get Away With Murder”) in their high-class suburban neighborhood, the foursome become fast friends, but tensions soon form. Especially when Danny and Evie share a passionate night together.

TV shows and movies have been responsible for some of Hollywood’s super couples but have also contributed to some of the industry’s best friendships. Stars like Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley met on set and continued being friends and even own a business together.
Similarly, Sam Heughan and Graham McTavish met on the set of Outlander and developed a very close friendship that lives on to this day. The two not only work together but also hang out outside for work. Heughan recently hilariously revealed that he and McTavish had a weird Valentine’s Day.

Sam Heughan has been playing Jamie Frasier on Outlander for a decade now. While he was a relatively unknown actor before landing the part, the show without a doubt made him a household name. Outlander was recently renewed for an eighth and final season and Heughan already has ideas about which role he would like next. The Outlander star is desperate to appear in a different fantasy series.
Sam Heughan and his family are huge fantasy fans
Heughan was born in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland in 1980. His parents were part of a hippie community that heavily borrowed from the works of The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings writer J. R. R. Tolkien. Their love for all things Tolkien inspired them to name their children after Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings characters.

Sam Heughan has already donned a superhero suit. Years ago, he played the Caped Crusader in a Cirque du Soleil-like stage show “Batman Live.” However, the “Outlander” star tells me on the latest episode of the “Just for Variety” podcast, he’s a little weary of what’s become of comic book movies.
“I’m excited about the new Batman movie. I think that looks fantastic,” Heughan says. “I think the other superhero movies kind of lost their way a bit. They’ve become, I think, a little too obese in a way, but anything character-based — I mean, Batman’s a great one because he’s not a superhero. He’s just an interesting character. Something with a good backstory.”
The Scottish actor also recalls his early days in the business when he made one of his first trips to Los Angeles to audition to play the Man of Steel in 2006’s “Superman Returns.

Voracious, an imprint of Little, Brown and Company has acquired the book’s rights. Waypoints will release simultaneously in the United Kingdom under Octopus Books’ new imprint, Radar. (Credit: Starz) In Waypoints, Heughan sets out on a 100-mile journey deep into the Scottish Highlands where he explores his life and reflects on the personal waypoints that define him. Using the rugged backdrop for the narrative, Heughan writes a love letter to the Scottish landscape that means so much to him. Consider it a kiss under the mistletoe this Christmas. While the wait for Season 6 of “Outlander” will have dragged on for almost two full years before it premieres on Starz March 6, the network released a clip from the first episode of the new season to tide fans over and serve as a merry stocking stuffer.
In it, Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) discuss the impending arrival of Tom Christie, with whom Jamie was imprisoned at Ardsmuir. The two weren’t exactly friends during their time together, but, as Jamie explains, when he extended an invitation to his fellow inmates to stay with him at Fraser’s Ridge, he couldn’t very well make a single exception. Claire is, of course, understanding — one of many reasons Jamie calls her his “angel.”

As it expands its global footprint, Lionsgate-backed streaming service Starzplay has snapped up exclusive rights to hit series “Outlander” in the U.K., Variety can reveal.
The deal marks the first time the long-running Starz show, which will debut season 6 in early 2022, will be streamed on its home platform outside the U.S.
“Outlander,” which shot in Scotland earlier this year, is one of the highest profile titles on Amazon Prime Video in the U.K., which picked up rights to the show from Sony Pictures Television in 2015. This latest deal, however, saw Starz outbid competitors for the series from Sony.
Fans can still, theoretically, continue watching “Outlander” on Amazon, but they’d need to buy separately into Starzplay via Amazon Channels, rather than getting it directly as an Amazon Prime Video original.

The 2021 Emmy nominations were revealed on Tuesday, July 13 and “Outlander” was nowhere to be found. But don’t worry, “Outlander” fans, your favorite show wasn’t snubbed. In actuality, the Starz romance epic didn’t air any new episodes within the eligibility period. Season 5 ended on May 10, 2020 and Season 6 isn’t expected to debut until early 2022. That means we’re in yet another so-called “Droughtlander” where the show takes an extended hiatus, this time brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.
