Charles Valentine is charming and attractive but has a dubious reputation that stirs up the interest of the police, particularly in the shape of Det. Supt. Hallett who wants to bring him down. Also involved are Valentine's new conquest Nadia Leiven and the ambitious Jimmy Gale. The film arrives eventually at a satisfying conclusion, revealing who indeed is Number Six.

Based on Edgar Wallace's 1922 novel it has a capable cast and moves along nicely. Michael Goodliffe who plays Hallett was a stalwart of British film and television and always good value in anything he played. He had a distinctive voice and an air of quiet command with a suggestion of great depth that outshone some of the bigger 'stars' with whom he acted.
