Thor; secret origin

Warning: Spoilers
In flashback to the thirties, we find Wednesday running a burlesque show. Time are a changing though, and some have to make choices as a result.

In the present, he and Shadow pull a con to get something he needs.

Much better as an episode. The flashbacks are superbly staged, Ian McShane is great and sings really well, and there is a good point to them.

They do mesh with the present day bit nicely also, where Ricky Whittle does get the chance to stretch himself. Which is nice.

Far and away the best episode of the season. Would that they could all be like this

Season 2 is dragging along a bit . .

. . . It seems a bit disconnected from season 1 and from the book, but it's been years since I read it. I do look forward to this episode, though.

Fantastic. A step back towards what made season 1 unique.

Warning: Spoilers
This episode may be considered a filler episode, however it's the best one since the first episode this season. We get a touching call back to see a new version of Thor (Donar) that is a refreshing take considering everyone knows of Chris Hemsworth as Thor. Nancy has some of the most driven and point blank lines in this episode, it really goes to show the difference between the ancient ones and the new ones. Lastly the mall scene with Ian Mcshane portraying a bishop and Shadow faking a secret service agent was done perfectly, truly a top ten scene.

Best episode so far

Can't have old Media and Columbia. They could never be in the same room at the same time. All father's silver tongue ends up killing his son. Viking fans in Chicago? Dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria! Al Swearingen saves the world by depriving the Nazis their strength.

By far the best episode in Season 2

Considering how bad the season is compared to the previous one, Episode 6 really delivers. Magnificent acting by Ian McShane, well written, good lore plot twist.

I am disappointed

Ok, I know this was a filler episode. But still, I don't know why they chose this content. It's not related to anything from the original story and I thought the Donan actor was terrible. Nancy was the best part of this episode.

What is going on? Season one was compelling, Season two is just terrible.

Ah nope

"Donar the Great" was around before the Norsemen as immortal, so what happened would not have happened.

Time for some new Writers? The previous Episodes of Season 1 used to be really well researched, can't say the same about Season 2.

Written by the Second Unit Writing Team
VikenMekhtarian28 December 2019
In movie productions, there is a First Unit, which comprises of the Director who shoots all the scenes featuring the lead actors and the Second Unit shoots the scenes that the stars are not in and it shot by a different director. It feels like this whole season was written by lesser writers while the ones who wrote the first season relax or recover. This episode more than any of the second season of American Gods can be skipped and you won't loose anything in the story line. This episode does not advance the plot in any significant way plus, what's worse is that it has Nazis! The whole second season of AG feels like one drawn out Second Act of a play, heavy on character development but low on plot. Except in this case, it feels like we are watching a different show, one without the bite and tang of the first season. We suffer the second act as we wait for the final act where the pace picks up and all the plot lines come together. However, if you consider that this is the second to last episode of season 2 and it's a snoozer. then we fear that American Gods may not have a third season at all. I probably won't watch it, like I didn't watch the last season of Game of Thrones. The producers of these second rate episodes need to learn their lesson. Either go the British way and make fewer episodes or risk bad reviews on IMDB! lol
