It is very reflective of how complicated love can be and how so much of life depends upon timing. I thought all the main actors did a really good job portraying a realistic view of what can happen in relationships along the way. The soundtrack was very good. I had to Shazam a few of the songs to to listen to later. There are a variety of scenes and locations the story seems is very believable. I like the ending. Watch and find out what it is.

Movie about everything wrong with romantically unprincipled morally corrupt people in relationships
infinitegodinfinity1 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This movie has no point, it portrays the bad side of sexual liberation for women and cheaters and neither condemns it nor argues for it. The characters are all terrible people with the exception of Ema's boyfriend who of course gets his heart broken by the sexually liberated Ema, I felt so bad for him.
Ema's friends dont reprimand her for her immoral actions instead of support her under the wicked guise of feminism and comradery. Drew does well for not breaking up with his gf over a romantic manipulator and power-confused (she feels powerful by commanding her romantic life at the expense of everyone involved in it, and she is confused because it is also on her own expense) and person like Ema but just by virtue of cheating alone he is a terrible person.
This movie tells you how unscrupulous some people can be without anyone that loved them ever knowing it (Ema admitting she did not feel morally wrong while cheating on Alex, her bf, in the past, under his nose, despite her knowing he was madly in love with her).
Ema is the cruelest most sociopathic character of the movie and everyone around her normalizes her actions and makes them out to be modern, when they are not, they are just fully sociopathic (for instance her engaging with Drew and pushing him to break up with his gf for her, despite knowing full well she will break his heart and leave him when she will go to Montreal anyway, and so she does and tells him not to visit her. All while she is never clear on anything, Drew gives her the conditional "but what if break up with my gf, would you then want me to visit you", to which she responds "you won't (break up with your gf)" but never answers whether she would want him to visit her if he did. She is an emotional and social manipulator par excelance.

Warning: Spoilers
I was so very disappointed at the ending. I really wanted Emma and Drew to end up together. I felt like they really belonged together. Claire was so boring and their relationship was so dull. We didn't really get to see what happened after Emma and Drew parted, but he probably went back to his mundane relationship. 😕
It's not a movie. It's real life!

A romantic drama, which is so real.
It's touching me so much, because I experienced exactly the same situation in my late 30's... It was my life most beautiful and hardest time.
The ending was quite the same in real life, as in this movie.
10 stars!

Brilliantly bittersweet, and so real

The people who I watched Acquainted with talked afterwards for hours about the people and the relationships in the movie. We had to remind ourselves it was a piece of fiction. One person said, "I've been every one of the characters in the movie at different times of my life." It's also wonderful to see the city of Toronto - usually a movie stand-in for mid-size American cities - come into its own in such a vivid, compelling way. The night-time, summertime walk in the park ... probably one of the longest tracking shots in recent cinema ... is so beautiful. Fine writing, deft direction, brilliant acting, and a cinematographer who knows exactly how to frame and film intimacy.
Amazing Movie!

A Complex Story That Everyone Needs to See
missinnayang8 December 2020
Not only are the talent and production incredible, but also the storyline and the way it depicts love within all of the grey areas. Love is never black and white. It's not always as simple as right or wrong; good or bad; worthy or not. Acquainted delves into the world of romance through multiple lenses - each character is dealing with their own perspective on life and love, and as an individual trying to navigate life in her 20s, it was so interesting to see parts of myself and my own experiences represented on screen in a manner that rises above superficial absolutes. Watch Acquainted asap - you won't regret it.
The Love Story We All Needed in 2020

We have seen all the mushy gushy, prince comes saves the girl, type of love stories. That is NOT this. It's real. authentic. complicated love. A must see, a dream cast line up, and a musical score that is worth having on repeat. 10/10!
incredible
