Great episode. Again. It feels like the last three are going to be wild
IvanNevesenko18 September 2018
I can't understand people who are still watching the fourth season and complaining about how boring the show is. In my opinion the show's tempo of the narrative is perfect. I like the way Gilligan and Gould treat me as a viewer - they trust me. Creators are not spoon-feeding audience letting them decide themselves how to feel about character's development and their actions. And I, in turn, trust them. This is what distinguishes BCS from the other TV shows - smart plot with high attention to details, complex characters with realistic motives which are not obvious and always multifaceted.

Boring? What did you expect to happen exactly?
regexfan19 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Not understanding the reviews that keep saying this show is boring. These people seem to keep saying this same thing on each episode since season 1. You would think they already get it by now that Better Call Saul is not Breaking Bad, but nope, they keep watching and somehow expecting something "big" to happen (like what?). This episode did an 8-months time jump and people still say "the episode progressed slowly". People who keep saying this show is boring should already get it by now that this show is definitely NOT for them, I mean, for real, it's season 4 already!

Kim's cast; right arm/left arm is NOT a 'goof'.
Weedinator13 November 2018
It is unfathomable that the creative team behind this show would make such a 'goof'... from the showrunners all the way down, especially to the actress herself, for this to actually be a 'goof;, they would ALL have to had to miss this in-your-face mistake, a virtual impossibility.

Remember, the episode starts off in split-screen, with Kim and Jimmy facing mirrors. The cast flipping from arm to arm is a subtle play off this, which serves to illustrate the duality of Kim's character, the good-and-bad fighting for control, as was displayed by her actions later on in the episode.

That montage
teegeebee9 April 2022
As usual, this is another exceptional episode of Better Call Saul. But I just have to mention that montage at the start. It's absolutely fantastic.

Genius way of telling us where Jimmy and Kim are in their lives and in their heads. Plus, showing us how much time has passed. Editing and cinematography was flawless as well. And the song of course.

One of my favorite moments in the entire show.

Only boring to those who don't pay attention
peacedisturber18 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
What is it the Gilligan, Gould and the writers do so well with Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul? Is it the masterful visual storytelling? The plot? The character development? It is all of those, but the best way to explain it is probably the way they show cause-and-effect! This accounts for what people "boring." They are not stock, static characters the way 95% of characters are in other shows. These are characters who have personalities that are set in naturally progressing scenarios where things other characters who also have primary personalities combine and they react and evolve together! Sometimes it means they quickly combust and disentangle. Sometimes they grow together, but they always have motivation or indecision that can make us really delve into considering and analyzing. They never do anything without reason though. And those reasons are not static. But, they cannot compress these huge changes and they cannot force it too happen quickly. Everything stacks up and it is so satisfying and brilliant to see a production do it with such care, craft and intelligence. Does it mean there are little lulls on occasion? That depends on your perspective and how you think about it-but if you understand that it all has a place in the big picture then you relish it! Amazing show! Amazing production!

Frank and Nancy's doldrums
greggwager18 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Anyone who listened to the radio during the 1960s knows that Frank and Nancy Sinatra recorded a droll song called "Something Stupid" that spent several weeks number one in the charts, ironically inching out the Turtle's livelier "Happy Together." Indeed, the title alone to episode seven, season 4, of Better Call Saul had us wondering if the song would be used. It is used, but in a cover version by the Israeli duo known as Lola Marsh, recorded specially for Better Call Saul.

The opening teaser plays out the entire song in a music video starring Saul and Kim in various situations of their domestic and professional ennui. Even when they are together at the same time, a split screen with a black line down the middle emphasizes their two separate worlds, with the exception of one scene in which Saul feeds his goldfish.

The teaser clobbers us over the head with what we all can sense is inevitable: these two are miserable together, but not unlike many double-income-no-children types. Never forget the underhanded way Kim approached Schweikart and Cokely with the idea of joining them, then told Saul over Moscow Mules that they approached her. Saul and Kim both playact their own versions of straight shooters, but deep down they connive against the world and each other.

When Kim brings Saul to an office party, she invites him to talk to anybody he wants, which subtly green lights his effusive behavior, transforming him into life of the party. Even Kim's boss, Rick Schweikart, invites Saul into a "spitballing" session with his employees for ways to woo clients. In no time, Saul transforms Rick's otherwise dazzling idea of a skiing trip to Taos into a private jet trip to Aspen with custom parkas.

The backstory involving meth lab construction tells us that several months have gone by in the story. Bad blood boils between Mike and Kai.

Don Hector is now awake and sitting up in bed next to the Santa Muerte statue beside him. Gus observes what his fancy doctor can't, that Hector's lecherousness is back in full swing. He sends her back to Baltimore, now having Hector where he wants him. Close-ups of Gus's facial expressions make for a symphony of acting by Giancarlo Esposito.

But a new story emerges at the end involving Huell Babineaux and his troubles with a cop with a hard-on for Saul's cell phone operation. Huell hits the cop upside the head with a bag of groceries thinking he is threatening Saul, not knowing it was the same cop who busted Huell three years ago for pickpocketing.

Saul asks Kim for assistance in setting up the cop as a drunk and egging him on in court, but Kim declines, even though she agrees to defend Huell her way. Julie Pearl reprises her role as ADA Susan Ericsen from season two ("Inflatable") as the all-but-repulsive prosecutor with no mercy and even fewer scruples.

Deborah Chow's direction in "Something Stupid" works bluntly to keep our favorite alienated and lonely couple from dragging us down with them. The new Huell story promises much and we don't know what Kim's strange plan involving loading up on colored crayons at the end is all about. Another cliffhanger, but season four is starting to wrap up.

Brilliant (I do not use the word lightly)
ianwagnerwatches17 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
*light spoilers*

A stellar episode with pointed writing backed by effective, nuanced performances (as seen in Kim's courtroom confrontation and subsequent talk with Jimmy at the end of the episode). This is episode also features several great visual sequences (namely the split intro and underground site entrance sequence). All brought together by a clear and focused director, this is an essentially perfect episode.

One of the best of the series
chinbagdeluxe12 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I cannot fathom why people wouldn't love this episode. From the best opener in the season to a great subversion of expectations in the first person scene to an interesting Hector development to the great party scene to the sad bit in the car to a slower scene with the lab that slowly escalates, but why isn't Gus there? Because now we see him revealing more about why Hector can't speak at his house. We then go back to a lab moment where Mike deescalates the situation to a scene where Jimmy starts an argument with a police officer, and through a mix up Huel attacks him, creating a new conflict for Jimmy. Then we're back to the lab for a heartfelt conversation between Mike and Werner. We then cut back to the aftermath, and after Kim comes in to help Jimmy, the episode is left on a cliffhanger.

The pacing of this episode is perfect, and everything I put above this comes after. If season six is better than season 5 and 4, I will be able to confidently say that this show is one of the best shows ever made. For now, we have the best spinoff in TV history.

Another excellent episode
jdjc00121 June 2020
Not going to go into too much detail but I thought the cold open montage was excellent (one of the best of the series so far) and set the tone for the episode perfectly. On another note, I'm getting really sick of seeing the same 1/10 reviews saying 'boring' episode after episode. I'll be the first to admit that the pacing of the show has been a bit too slow at times but things are definitely picking up now and if you can't see that then you're probably not trying hard enough to engage with the show (sorry). I know a lot of people expected this to be like Breaking Bad but if you're still seeking that kind of action I'm afraid you simply won't find it here.

Something Stupid
bobcobb30126 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The writing, the acting, the show is still far superior to just about everything else on TV, but right now these storylines are not doing it for me.

Mike being nothing but a hall monitor is a mistake, and Jimmy needs to get back to law and not these small cons.

38 minutes of NOTHING and 7 minutes of "almost nothing"
leomargiotta199519 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
While not at the level of Breaking Bad "Fly", this episode is absolutely boring, probably the most boring of the whole series so far. That's because NOTHING happens for the first 38 minutes.

Good Suspense/Relationship Crumbling
Hitchcoc18 March 2020
As Jimmy and Kim's relationship slowly crumbles, his work with gangs, selling phones takes an ugly turn. We can see he is filled with jealousy from being disbarred and seeing Kim's successes and awards. Meanwhile, whatever those guys are building is beginning to hit snags. Eventually, Mike is going to find a way to deal with that ne'er do well German guy. The next episode will answer some questions that we've been leading up to.

Down The Rabbit Hole
darbski18 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
***SPOILERS*** It's nice to see that Gus has Hector's best interests at heart, isn't it? Yeah, he knows by watching the recording of Hector's rehab work, that he knocked the little water glass off the cart/table to get a look at the sexy nurse's bum. Gus has him right where he wants him - permanent hell for his past dirtiness. The beginning of the episode shows just how separated Jimmy and Kim are becoming, and the meeting (get together) gave Jimmy an opportunity to witness just how much nicer the office she now has than the one he thinks (thought) she'd love. He HAD to make a jerk out of himself, and screw up Kim. Oh, yeah, he'd never admit it, but he's just gotta do just that. And she absolutely HAS to get away from him before he ruins her life. I hope he sees this, because whatever she's planning is very risky. she made zero impression on the A.D.A., and it really looks like Huell Babineaux is gonna take at least a little fall for the sandwich smackdown. I mean - come on - I've been hit with a ball bat and stayed up. Rang my bell but good but I stayed up. One important point is that the cop (P.O.) was right there with enough dirt on Jimmy to violate him as a parole offender, and the writers didn't do it - why not?? Mike was all business this week, and realizes that R+R is a necessary ingredient to progress on the project. It was a good conversation he had that led to the idea - how they get it done is gonna be interesting. Rhea Seehorn's acting pushes this one up from a slow 9 to a serious 10.

Perfect setting for an explosive ending
darkarpit-517-63362719 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
While I have to admit the last two episode were kinda boring, but this one was consistently engaging, and sets up things quite well ( at least for the next episode), which leaves us asking for more; something that many episodes this season have failed to do. I can now feel that something great is very near, and the fanboys of Breaking bad who have consistently watched Better call Saul seeking the same feel, will finaly get rewarded...

Better episode
mm-3930 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Better episode. Saul gets into a pickle and one of his people get into trouble. What makes Something Stupid interesting is we see Saul working some sort of famous cons which goes back to his slipping Jimmy days. We see Kim is getting frustrated with Jimmy and her job, but agrees to help. The story line wets the appetite for the viewer wanting to watch more. And so it does! Mike has to deal with some cabin fever men working underground. We get to see how harden and cruel Gus can be with some new character development. Something Stupid is a plot twist which has the viewer wanting more. Written and directed well. I give Something Stupid 8 stars.

Red-haired girl in the beginning

Great episode as always. Now, okay, I'll prolly get downvoted but does anyone know who's the red-haired girl walking with Kim as some other person in the beginning of this episode?

Warning: Spoilers
A slight drop in quality for this episode, mainly because Mike's sub-plot doesn't seem to go anywhere interesting and Jimmy's newest involvement is a little drawn out. Looks like the next one will be better, though.

Boring
alfiedale-2340518 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This is honestly the first time in the history of this show I've waited a week only to be disappointed, every other episode has brought something to the table and all this did was bore me with the start of a few subplots and leaving me on a weird cliffhanger. Why are Kim and Jimmy all of a sudden more separate and distant? This is out of nowhere and had no build up, she's acting like season 1 Kim like they haven't got super close over the last 3 seasons or anything. Baffling.

Production quality
goodfellachema23 September 2018
Loved most things about the show, as always, except the prosecution quality, or cameras used, or cinematographer hired, or something... was different and not in a good way... Makes me wonders if all previous episodes were shot using film, and this was the first video, or, if it was just a poor director for this particular episode?

Disaster
petermac-9531922 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This was in no way up to the same standard of other episodes. Okay, so it was confirmed that Jimmy and Kims relationship is on the rocks (no surprise there considering Jimmy's nature). BUT WE SPENT SO LONG ON IT. He told Rich that he should be taking everyone by private jet to Aspen for a skiing trip. Boom. Hilarious. Feel the DRAMA. Next Jimmy has encounter with a cop. Huell (it's not really him though is it?) hits said cop and is taken away. May or may not do time. Jimmy can't defend him, he's got one month probation, or whatever it's called, on his license. SO he asks Kim. Kim ain't happy. And from the way they say bye to one another. I guess they aren't even living with one another anymore!? I mean come on. We know the relationship is bad and well it's never been the most affectionate relationship. But what the hell. "Let me know if I can do anything for you".. Then there's the germans who are upset. Ermantraut is just thinking Kai needs taken out. He has insulted me in German and I can't let that go. So he's going to arrange for them all to leave and never come back again. Anyway that's a boring story line right there. Oh and Salamanca is back. Not back to killing and mutilating. But he's back and from what we've seen he could be causing the nurses more hassle. Naughty, naughty. Possibly the funniest thing that happened. Every story line is on hold on this episode. SAVE what time you have in your life for other things. This IS NOT WORTH IT.

Yet another terrible episode in a staggering
snake-9661520 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Terrible season. Tedious, awful going through the motions claptrap. It's amacing what an awful season this is. When I compare any episode from this season to the brilliant one where Jimmy outed Chuck in the courtroom, I can but sigh in dissapointment. The terrific Kim has become a somnambulist and the montages with the corny music are just so wrong that would make me want to kill that sycophant nerdiest from Talking Dead if I were to hear him praise them. Has Vince been taken over by a moronic clone?
