"Beautiful Dreamer" (#14.19)

Warning: Spoilers
Good episode.

I only fall in love with Meredith more and more. She is so wise and kind and truly concerned about the people around her. As we know, she has experienced more grief than most would deem fair, but I think it's only made her a better person.

It's sad that we have to say goodbye to yet another character this season. We lost Riggs and Sam and we all know April and Arizona are leaving. The amount of characters this show sheds is appalling. I know it's how it works in a hospital environment, but let's be honest: it's a little crazy. I've learned my lesson and that is not to get too attached to characters. It usually doesn't last.

On the other hand, despite me actually starting to *kind of* like Sam, it's at least good to know she'll be working next to Yang. I was so happy when I heard her name mentioned. And can we take a moment to appreciate that parallel with DeLuca/Sam and Cristina/Mer? One thing I continually love with this show: parallels. It's, at times, heartbreaking. And this was one of those times.

I give "Beautiful Dreamer" an 8.9/10.

Sam to El Salvador?
ZegMaarJus16 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This Episode begins with Meredith, Arizona and Carina, they start up their workday at the hospital. Kimmie wants to go to Broadway, to the musicals and sing it out. Agent Martin Fields is looking for Sam, it has something to do with immigration. Kimmie is leaving the hospital, without saying goodbye to Alex. Sam may have to leave to El Salvador, because she broke the law. Meredith made up a plan to not let Sam go to El Salvador. Sam goes to Zurich, to Cristina's hospital. Owen wants to adopt a child. Sam leaves to Zurich. Nice Episode of Grey's Anatomy Season 14, dramatic Episode. Sam had to leave Seattle, Andrew is really angry about that!

This Episode Is So Very Important
leddyfzm15 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was so very important for so many reasons. The topic of immigration in this country, in a country of IMMIGRANTS may I add, is too often faceless. You hear arguments from all political parties, you read articles and watch news on the topic daily, DACA & Dreamers have become part of our everyday vocabulary, and all of this makes it faceless. What you saw in this episode was NOT liberal propaganda as another reviewer suggested, as the reviewer correctly pointed out that during the Obama presidency there were large numbers of deportations.

This episode illustrates an area where ethics and the law are unfortunately far from being synonymous. This is how you reach a large number of people- by including these scenarios in a show watched by millions.

What this episode successfully does is show us who the dreamers are and how their lives are being torn apart. The dreamers by definition are students who have spent the majority, if not all, of their lives in the US because they were brought here as infants or children. The dreamers are people who are seeking to better themselves through higher education, and in doing so, they become an asset to this country.

Tonight's episode illustrates how and why our immigration resources are working against us. The immigration agent is given the task to find Dr. Bello to most likely detain her and eventually deport her for a minor traffic infraction. She wasn't driving drunk. She didn't kill anyone or put them in harms way, she has not defrauded the government. She is not trafficking drugs or weapons. So this doctor, a woman who's skills and abilities add value to this country, will very likely pay the ultimate price, being sent to a country she knows nothing about, because of a red light.

Immigration resources should be focused on finding people who are here illegally and have committed federal crimes, crimes that put people in danger, crimes that hurt our communities and in turn our country. How can anyone, no matter your political affiliations, be ok with having immigration practically stalk those who are trying to do the very best for themselves and their families? It's easy as all heck to find a dreamer like Dr. Bello. Why? Because she's not running from anything. The ones that aren't as easy to find? The drug dealers, murderers, gang members etc. So why not use our resources to target them? Why are we targeting people who will become assets to our country? This is why this episode is important, this is why it's necessary for those with a platform to take on politics, this is how you get people to think about our laws and if they are truly working in the best interest of this country.

Well done Greys, well done!

Beautiful Dreamer

Warning: Spoilers
When Grey suggest marriage "People get Green Card marriages all the time", Bello says "Getting married won't get me legal status"

DACA recipients are eligible for marriage green cards. As long as they're married to a U. S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident (green card holder), they can apply for a green card as a DACA recipient.

Technically, she COULD marry DeLuca, but that wouldn't create the drama on the show.

I've become a "new" fan of Grey's Anatomy in the last few months, and I've noticed a lot of misinformation popping up on occasion, but I imagine, for the show, it's not necessarily supposed to be 100% accurate.

Another one bites the dust

Warning: Spoilers
USA has to deal with immigration because it is one of the countries that causes other countries to be ruined, so accept "dreamers" or stop screwing with other countries. That is the REAL issue here, while you live in your "first world" bubble (quotes intended) What sucked here is that they choose Bello to go off, while I find her a good actress.. (minus the sex stupid scenes that I really don't like, from anyone)

Fitting title.

For this writing crew who clearly know nothing about their own country's laws. But it's just the way things work in the US lately. Forcing people to think/vote a certain way. No surprises the show stoops to that level as well...
