The Ignorance of Unbelievers
pajone399 April 2018
Shame on those claiming there is no proof Jesus said the things the Bible said he did. Nowadays there may not be as much evidence BUT there IS evidence of Both the existence of Jesus AND of the many things he said and did. But sadly, the non-believers ONLY see what they want to see and disregard anything that dares contradict their childish opinions. Oh and Jesus was NOT saying that Peter was the rock. Duuuuuuh! On your words......................HELLLLO?! Peter's words were "YOU ARE THE CHRIST!" So CHRIST is the Rock! NOT Peter! Duh! I can't believe how incredibly ignorant so many people are. smh

I enjoyed this documentary very much. I learned a lot of the Catholic Church and the Vatican. I had the privilege to visit Rome and the Vatican.

Ignorant
thomas-athanasius13 March 2018
I got 5 minutes into this piece of trash before I gave up on historical accuracy

1) It says that Christianity was illegal. No, it wasn't, in general. The Jewish authorities were threatened by it, and would cause trouble, blaming the Christians. So Christians would be blamed for civil unrest, not for their beliefs. The Neronian persecution was not throughout the empire, but in the city of Rome only, because Nero needed a scapegoat.

2) Some alleged scholar claimed that Rome was the ONLY city with an apostle. But, prior to Rome, Peter was resident in Antioch. Andrew was resident in Byzantium. John was the leader of the church in Ephesus.

A little bit of historical research could have easily corrected these errors. "Scholars" interviewed couldn't be bothered. I, therefore, can't be bothered to watch it.

Stupid Documentary
reginahuber19 July 2020
Learn history!!! A lot of wrong facts in the first few minutes. It seems the director / writer / producer wants to tell their story, whether it's true or not. This is not a documentation, but a mockumentary. Or they were just sloppy.

no historical proof
werbedreck1 April 2018
I wish they had mentioned that basically none of the storys presented in this series is in any way proven. For example the quote that "on this rock i will build my church..." was probably never said by the historical jesus (whose existence is a whole other story). The man believed that the end is near, so he had no reason to build a church that would last for millennia. In 3 out of 4 gospels this sentence is not included. After 10 minutes I was out of this show. This is missing all of the actually interesting historical questions. They should have talked to some scholars who are not as affiliated with church as those featured or at least the better informed ones within church. What this series presents as the beginning of christianity is just a world of make-believe.

interesting

Maybe, not the theme itself, but the manner to use it defines this portrait of the leader of Catholic Church. Commentaries, comparations, subtle explored details, characters and their facts, the way who the present is influenced, in profound sense, by the events of past. At the first sigh, nothing new, but the desire to propose a large image, for large public is not a bad thing. Sure, knowledge and understanding are purpose. And the result is more than decent.

UHH...The papacy IS the polar opposite of everything Christ stands for!!!
cavscout_2112 February 2021
I hate that total BS summary! 1.2 billion catholics did NOT originate from the apostles. In fact, Roman Catholicism is totally and completely ANTI-Christian and goes against everything our Lord Jesus stands for! And I'll even go a step further: THE CATHOLIC CHURCH IS THE BEAST AND HARLOT REFERENCE IN REVELATIONS 17:4! The entire papal church is evil, corrupt and apart from Satan himself, the greatest enemy of The Lord! Please DO NOT be deceived! Also, the True followers of Christ can simply use a mixture of spiritual discernment with a touch of 'common sense' to easily realize that every word I have spoken is the TRUTH because it's not what I'M saying, but rather what GOD himself has said ALL THROUGHOUT REVELATIONS and it's what HE still says today! Look at the facts:

1) Rev. 13v.11; And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth. And he had two horns like a lamb, AND SPAKE AS A DRAGON **{{{The Catholic Church 'presents' itself as Christian, yet practices blasphemy and idolatry,,worshipping saints, angels and even man (pope) above God Himself.}}}**

2) Rev. 13v.13-15; 13 He performs great signs, so that he even makes fire come down out of heaven to the earth in the prescence of men. 14 And he deceives those who dwell on the earth because of the signs which it was given him to perform in the prescence of the beast, telling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast who had the wound of the sword and has come to life. 15 And it was given to him to give breath to the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast would even speak and cause as many as do not worship the image of the beast to be killed. **{{{The clergy of the Roman Catholic Church have long believed the notion that they alone are the only true ministers of Christ-that they have such 'great influence' in heaven as to not only be able to forgive sin (HERESY;God The Father and God the Son alone may forgive sin), but may also grant indulgences to sin for certain sums of payment. The pope even goes so far as to claim to be able to deliver souls from their make believe "purgatory". The papacy has also labeled all those who oppose their authority as heretics. And, as a PROVEN FACT OF HISTORY, have tortured and murdered (burning at the stake ring any bells??) all those who would not submit to their idolatry; those brave few that worshipped and glorified GOD and NOT their "church"!

Through my faith in The Lord Yeshua (Jesus), I can say with all confidence that I could go on and on and then some! Research the history of the Catholic Church! READ REVELATIONS!!

Here's another fun fact: Rev. 14v.19-20 says

19 So the Angel swung his sickle to the earth and gathered the clusters from the vine of the earth, and threw them into the great wine press of the WRATH of God. 20 And the wine press was trodden outside the city, and blood came out from the wine press, up to the horses' bridles, for a distance of TWO HUNDRED MILES or A THOUSAND AND SIX HUNDRED FURLONGS.

The state of the church or St. Peter's patrimony, extends from Rome to the Po, TWO HUNDRED ITALIAN MILES!! EXACTLY ONE THOUSAND AND SIX HUNDRED FURLONGS!

Historically inaccurate and an obvious hit piece
lsjrshooter29 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It starts by saying rome was the only church with an apostle at its head. That's terribly inaccurate. There were at least 2 other apostles that were heads of churches. Peter just had supremacy. They talk about constatine as well but fail to mention that the council was called do to all the heretical sects in the church. Geretical sects that were not killed but debated as the show would like you to believe. They talk alot about the corruption of the church and goes through it's bad popes but skips the first few centuries of popes that died for their faith. It doesn't once talk about the good the church has done for the word but instead hits the easy targets of Pope Urban II and Pope Alexander VI. Historical inaccurate and an obvious hit piece.

It also talks about selling indulgences but doesn't undertstand what they are. Indulgences were never sold. Donations to the the construction of churches was called an indulgence. It does not get you out of purgatory. These are all wrong interpretations of of the doctrine. Martin luther believed an indulgences but took issue with what he perceived to be selling but in reality was donation.
