I saw Top Gun in the summer of 1986 when I was taking Army training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. It wasn't a good time for me (in fact like most people I remember basic training as a loathsome experience I would never want to repeat). But one of the few pleasant memories I have of Fort Jackson then is seeing Top Gun at the base theatre and falling in love with the Danger Zone a dynamite song that defined the film the way that My Heart Will Go On defined Titanic. That movie in fact was beloved by Navy recruiters because so many wanted to join after seeing Top Gun. I was so happy when they used the song again in the long awaited sequel Top Gun Maverick!
