Great Storytelling
AmandaFerris8529 October 2018
I enjoy movies like this that aren't about the "best" parts of life or just bad days, but people that really are in a low low place and how those people handle it and what they become because of it. Great storytelling. The acting isn't as bad as other people have commented, I thought everyone for the most part were believable and cast well.

Poor acting. Zero storyline. Waste of time. Note sure how it got the high rating on IMDB.

Difficult Story, Great Storytelling
TheAll-SeeingI1 February 2019
There's probably a reason we don't see many hard-hitting films about human trafficking, and here's guessing that the reason comes down to it being a subject matter that's hard for most to derive traditional mainstream entertainment from. Written by Ramon Sloan and directed by R. Simone Brown, "Circumstances" seems to be winding up the tastemakers and gatekeepers, because at it's core, this is a film about human trafficking. And like other unsavory realities of our time that manage to avoid daily discussion as they continually happen right under our noses (see: endless war), if it's a difficult subject matter with no easy fix, best to keep it out of our sight lines so we can focus on things in life that aren't quite as challenging.

"Circumstances" is difficult at times only because of its brutal human condition-driven subject matter. But in terms of pure storytelling, it engages you early, and then it keeps you around. There are good and bad people in this well-executed film, and it's tough to watch the choices they make, but at the root cause of this world is the old devil that is poverty. Director Brown does a great job of allowing the story to trace itself back to this age-old truth, but we're not clubbed over the head with it in the form of moralizing sermons or half-baked solutions.

"Circumstances" isn't going to solve the tragic and rampant problem of human trafficking. It's a film, not a proposed solution. Kudos to Brown and Sloan for demonstrating the required ambition to take on a subject so often ignored by news outlets, and for creating a great story from it.

This movie is full of bad acting, and tons of misogyny.

A great cautionary tale !

Circumstances is a very well made story about the wrong decisions one sometimes makes that eventually ruin everything he was trying to save in the first place.

This movie was well worth the watch. It is a great watch especially if you can relate to it. The book series is great as well. Can't wait to see part 2.

Such a good film!

What a sensational film! It gives you a real feeling of what urban life is like for some folks. It opened my eyes to areas that I was lacking a good understanding. I thought the director did a great job of portraying real life without exaggerating or sensationalizing it. I can better understand now how some folks find themselves in a miserable situation in order to just get by. That this is all know. It's pretty obvious once you're in, you're in and most likely for life (which is probably is going to be cut short). I strongly recommend this movie! Put this on your list to see!

An emotional journey
jblockbuster4 October 2019
The actors do a superb job in taking you on an emotional journey. The film has everything a crime film needs, sex & human trafficking, paired with the personal drama that entails for the people involved. Great cinematography and directing. I can recommend this film :)
