The Power of Ragnar
claudio_carvalho15 October 2017
Bjorn learns that his father is dead and sails back home, leaving Rollo that returns to Paris. Meanwhile Ubbe, Sigurd and Ivar gather a huge army to revenge Ragnar. However Ubber and Ivar decide to kill Lagherta before the departure, but Bjorn arrives and saves his mother. Judith tries to convince his father King Aelle to ally with King Ecbert warning that the Vikings are coming, but he refuses. Ivar asks Floki to invent something to help him in combat and Floki builds a chariot for him.

"The Great Army" is an episode that shows the power and importance of Ragnar to his countrymen. Ragnar's sons succeed to join the greatest army in Norway to avenge their father. It is difficult to the viewer to understand the route of this series with the loss of Ragnar since none character is charismatic enough as he was. Lagherta is in a troubled situation especially after her conversation with The Seer. The ambitious Harald and his brother Halfdan are the next menace to Kattegat. And with brothers like Ragnar's sons it is not necessary an outside enemy to destroy Kattegat. My vote is eight.

Warning: Spoilers
I don't like the path that this is taking. I know, Ivar is cool and Ragnar's sons are going to avenge him, wich is also cool but i think we all were hyped about Björn's journey in the mediterranian but all is getting so boring and long. Btw there is a clear parallel from the red wedding from GOT (at 29:00) but at the end it's nothing at all.

Hard to watch

Warning: Spoilers
Well it is still "Vikings", there's still medieval in it... Yet it is getting hard to watch when there's no glue within the chaotic situation in Kattegat. While we had Ragnar, there were way more easiness in the series, it was all about Ragnar which was just a wonderful choice to portray series like this. Now we have 5 of his children who are not so alike with their father, we have new queen Lagertha who is not as "queenish" as I imagined her to be, also we have 2 conspirators who would like to take her place and slay all of Ragnar's sons... More important I cannot find any suitable successor of Ragnar's will, his mind. Whatever Ragnar did, I was always confident in him, he kept this Vikings wheel moving forward and made the history much more interesting. As soon as he died I found an emptiness in the series. I was always skeptical about his coming end but now I am almost certain that it was bad idea to end his life like this. As I mentioned before the situation is a chaos, there's too much intrigue and nobody to control it. As far as I see there should not be anyone to replace Ragnar and my point is that the series have changed completely. Sometimes changes are good, but sometimes it's really hard to endure, especially when you create and then kill such an influential character as Ragnar Lothbrok.
