A real evolution.
christinezarkali22 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I must admit that season 5 is not really my favorite, but I think it is exactly what the show needed in order to remain true. It is a season, slower than most which sets up the foundations for the series to come. And it does so, perfectly.

The season's plot -and writing- is excellent. Of course it is very different from the previous ones, but it has to be because the gang and its leader have moved on. They have all evolved and so does their company and lifestyles. Politics is the most logical direction for a man with Tommy's ambitions and thirst for power.

Perhaps, what I enjoy, and hate at the same time, the most about series 5, is how sad it really is, and how depressed it makes me feel due to the phenomenal acting, music and direction. All the main characters are almost broken, especially Tommy whose suffering is actually painful to watch, but reasonable and real, nonetheless. The beauty of the peaky blinders, is its realism and its bluntness.

As for the final episode in particular, it is fantastic and just on point. Every scene has its own message. Besides its wonderful- yet devastating- ending which leaves you wanting immediately more, I also love the following two scenes:

1)Michael's speech, revealing for the first time his full ambition and even jealousy towards the person who let him into the family, a scene to make you sad and angry an the same time.

2)Tommy calling all his loved ones, in the middle of the night, after Polly's resignation. Another moment to make your heart break a little, because in spite of all the killings and the bad things he has done, you can not help but feel sorry for this lonely, sorrowful man who tries to find the will to live and desperately needs to feel wanted and loved again.

All in all, in my opinion season 5 is as brilliant as the others. A much different season, and a true and honest part of a beautiful journey, which I hope it will end up with our favorite gangster finding peace and his own way to be good, as his heart really desires.

When everything doesn't get wrapped up in the season doesn't mean it's bad. Granted this isn't the best season but it's still a hundred times better than 95% of shows out today

One of the best episodes

Warning: Spoilers
Though this season has not reached its full potential, this episode manages to save most of it. Since the last season where the enemy is dealt with quite some ease and we don't get to enjoy the process of solving the cases i have argued that Peaky Blinders could probably contain more episodes in each season. In this case I would say the same if Mosley was killed. We finally have a series that doesn't end in favor of the battle between Tommy and his 'enemies'. It was an episode that keeps you at the edge of your seat. It's not just about action guys (though i must admit this season could have more of it). It's a great ending to the season that keeps you waiting for the next. The plot is more intense than ever, the enemy is stronger than ever and the characters are more complex than ever. For me it is one of the very few times that I can think of giving something a 10. Maybe deserves a 9, but compared to other light hearted 10/10 ratings i have seen in some cases, I think it's fair to give this one such a score as well. I have to say I am really satisfied

Warning: Spoilers
The intensity was epic this episode, I was on edge the whole time. The acting was perfect and cinematography was perfect, I love how they've broken out of the new season new problem cycle that they had been doing the past few seasons.

Pros: Alfie Solomon's is back, completely random, completely unnecessary (for this episode at least, they could have been easy to get) but 100% worth it, can't wait for future scenes with Hardy. The Family's civil war, really shocking to see Polly leave Tommy's side but I'm sure everyone could understand why she did it. Everyone seems to be hating Gina but I think she's a fantastic character with so much potential. That is the key word here; potential. This season has been building up for next season which I love.

Cons: The Billy Boys just aren't as scary as I thought they would first be, especially with the crucifixion and their songs, they are just turning into the average thug bad guys and I really hope they have a plan for the Billy Boys which will show them as cold and ruthless as they were first shown as being.

Favourite scene: The Tommy and Charlie dialogue really was the shining star of the episode as I've been wishing that Charlie would get some more dialogue and boy did he. Both actors shone and it really made the whole episode feel like it had a soul to it.

It's not a bad thing that things haven't been wrapped up all in one season. Great that they've changed the formula here and I hope they keep the outstanding level of writing that has blessed us this season.

A good finale to a messy season
maxglen22 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This season has been a strange one. Episode one had the Wall Street crash which seemed to do nothing for the series other than bring Michael back, who himself had little to do this season although we now know that he's going to have a lot more to do in season 6. I feel like Alfie Solomons being "brought back from the dead" was kind of fan service and felt a little immersion breaking but I can't be too mad because it's Tom Hardy! I was slightly paranoid about Oswald's speech as Oswald is a real person who actually existed and died of Parkinson's in the 80s and I'm glad to report that history is still somewhat intact on that front. The ending of this episode was very tense and well done but I can't help but feel this season was a lot of set up for next season and that it could have been cut down to 3 episodes as only half this season really felt like it was doing important narrative work. Ultimately this is a pretty fantastic episode to an otherwise sloppy season but I'm intrigued to see where the show will go from here

I could see that the finale would leave us in a position waiting for the next one. I prefer it compared to the last one where we were all happy. However, Abe was too good to wave us goodbye

Tense
Calicodreamin3 December 2021
This episode oozed with tension in every scene which amped up the energy but with no where to go, it lost some build up to the end. Certainly a wild last few moments that left everything up in the air in a major cliffhanger.

Disappointing season
connorjenx25 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The best part of the whole of season 5 was the return of the almighty Alfie Solomon's !! The legend. But apart from that I feel season 5 has had no solid story line, certain characters I feel were underused. Barely any action compared to the other seasons. Still solid acting performances by the entire cast. But I feel this season was a let down and leaves me not looking forward to season 6.

Deception and a resurection
xmasdaybaby196616 October 2019
An intense conclusion to the series with madness and turmoil inside and all around the Shelbey family with plots and schemes wherever you look. I have watched the episode a couple of times now and still can't decide whether it is brilliant or a pile of tosh but the suspense means you want to see more. I have just spent 10 days watching the first 5 series so am now going back to series one for some sanity and humour that was sadly missing from this episode.

Season 5
matiasbockerman23 September 2019
This is'nt flawless season. I didn't like that directing style: I mean I don't buy that overdramatized way to direct: it tries to build up tense in EVERY scene when it is'nt necessary and because of that, this was a bit hard to watch. And - I really hate to say this - couple actors and actress kinda... overacted. Paul Anderson, for instance: He almost ruins the characters by pointless raging all the time. Peaky Blinders is still my Favourite series and even those flaws within, season overall is good, but not great. Season four is just perfect and Yes, this season is'nt that good but does it need to be when bar is so high? This is still a very enjoyable. Happy to see Tom Hardy portraying Mr. Solomons. Since 'Bronson' Hardys acting is absolutely stunning: He is one of the greatest actor ever.

Great finale, However..
motaeb-4574122 September 2019
Great finale. However, I think this season is the weakest season so far compared to the other 4 great seasons. Many of the dialogues felt like they were meaningless and some plot lines weren't interesting and sometimes boring. Hope season 6 is better

Less is more

Warning: Spoilers
Maybe it would have worked better if the story had less arcs, we start with the Black Tuesday which leads to Michael's arc - probably being developed in season 6 -; there is Thomas' espionage put on halt for Younger's death; Billy Boys are a short one that they simply drop it and with Gold's death it feels even more unfulfilling; the Opium trade and Arthur's whole "don't trust the Chinese", that leads to nothing. Those are an example of how packed the season feels, which serves as an example on how things feels "undone" this season, and I'm not even considering Solomons coming back from the dead, if you killed the character at least own it, sure he is amazing on scene, but yall decided to kill him.

Finn is definitely a misdirect
Neptune1651 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
They knew the entire plan. The only people who knew the plan was Tommy, Arthur, Amberama, Johnny, and Charlie. Those were the only five. It's not Billy. He doesn't know where the sniper is, or even where Aberama or Arthur was. Finn gave him a vague answer. Johnny Dogs wasn't attacked in the beginning which is weird. Plus Aberama suspected him in the first place too. Maybe Michael's option 2 is to disrupt tommy's plans to drive him into suicide and take over and that's who Billy called he called Michael. The whole feeling of being confused is on purpose. Tommy doesn't know what's going on, so neither does the viewer.

Probably the worst season of them all, yet still quite good. This final episode was the best of the season for sure. Some plot lines particularly rushed (eg Michael) but still solid. Looking forward to the next season.

(I finally started this show in 2021 because of its compact six episode seasons. Now I wish there were more episodes!!)

Cillian Murphy the next James Bond??

Warning: Spoilers
Peaky blinders director and writers did a great job in the development of oswald mosley character and it was a good move not to end his competition with tom this season. The built u see in the family the problem and that after 6 episodes everyone started to see Michael gray as a redemption for the family was great. Thomas will have a hard time in the upcoming season fighting on many sides. There was joy happiness sadness surprise combined all together for a great finale.

Great episode. And a hill of an ending!!
aboalhyjaa26 September 2019
What the hill just happened? This is literally one of the best episodes ever in TV history not only in this show. Great cinematography, great dialogue, great acting and most of all great surprise in this episode that no one expected !! The only mistake in the episode is that its a bit rushed. I wish that it was longer or at least the first 15 minutes of it was in the last episode. But everything else was great ! I thought this season is weak because it focuses on the talks between the actors and not action like Peaky blinders used to be but i was wrong. Why? Because this season so far is the best season of Peaky Blinders !!.
