Cute and Charming!
Anonnamus24 March 2019
I don't understand the hate this movie has gotten from other reviewers. This is a Hallmark movie, not an Oscar nominee. It marks off every detail on a rom-com checklist, and does it with a better-than-normal script. I literally laughed out loud more than once. I also believe it was perfectly cast. I recommend this one to any fan of Hallmark.

The usual laughable royal movie - but some intentional humor too.

These royal movies are always unrealistic but at least this one had some deliberately funny moments.

A predictable tv romantic comedy
lisafordeay4 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Hallmark movies mainly the romance ones always have an English prince falling for an American woman. This is one of them.

My Summer Prince is a 2016 romantic comedy about a young woman named Mandy(Taylor Cole)who works for a PR named Deirdre(Dumb and Dumber's Lauren Holly)who wants to scoop news on a wild prince named Colin(Jack Taylor). Problems arise when Mandy pretends to be Deirdre and falls in love with the prince who thinks that she is Deirdre. But when he finds out that Deirdre is Mandy will they both live happily ever after? The plot is predictable, the chemistry is nice between Taylor Cole and Jack Taylor, and overall it was a sweet cliched rom com. Parts of it reminds me of How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days with Maid In Manhattan.

Overall I give it 2 1/2 out of 5 stars.

Meh...
LuLuBelleJ30 April 2017
I LIKE the Hallmark Royal movies generally, but this one is just a Stinker. Location is the same tired place they shoot many of their movies....and the cast is just "meh" -So it's supposed to look realistic when a prince stays in a "resort" that looks like a 2 star hotel?? And allll those BOWS? Every holiday, Hallmark really likes using Bows to decorate with....Dollar store bows.... soooooo cheesy! Kind of like the dresses in the pseudo royal ballroom scenes. The dresses look like mediocre department store prom gowns, not like what you'd expect from a costume drama team.

The prince is cute, but a bit juvenile (maybe it's just the awful dialog). Taylor Cole is not really a good on screen match for him either...she seems older than him, and he's exceptionally immature. There really isn't any on screen chemistry I find the least bit believable. She did REALLY well opposite the guy in Christmas in Homestead!

The royal theme in this one is more cliché than some of the better ones. I loved the following because they had good cast, and beautiful locations: A Royal Christmas (they had the cute chemistry, good cast, beautiful location) , A Crown for Christmas (5 stars cast, chemistry, location), A Princess for Christmas (awesome chemistry, beautiful location). My Summer Prince does not even come close to these others.

I'm tired of Hallmark using the same Utah, and Pacific Northwest locations. I've even spotted repeat homes and locations used in movies., that just makes me feel tired of seeing the same old same old....The past year just hasn't been the best for Hallmark. More stinkers than good goodies. A movie doesn't have to be "saccharine sweet" to be good and wholesome. It insults my intelligence.

And pleaseeee....EVERY single Hallmark film seems to have one thing in common, and that's that there is ONE NEAR-MISS KISS (insert eye roll..because someone interrupted it) and then one final kiss to end the show. (Insert another eye roll) If kissing is so bad, then Hallmark better stick to The Duggar family Side-Hug. Ughhhh. In any case, this movie falls into the "stinker" pile

Pink dreams, plastic and rhinestones
halvor-moen8 August 2016
This production seems to be the product of a child's fantasy. If thinking of watching this Hallmark TV-movie, skip the real facts of life and simply try to deal with the creative story line and enjoy the gullible pink fantasy about royalty.

The cast is pretty OK, but everything else in the movie related to the "Kingdom of Edgemere" is all baloney, that's when the plastic, rhinestones and pink imagination take over it all. However, have a laugh and go with it if you want, it's a feelgood movie made for the Summer.

I feel generous by rewarding this movie 6 out of 10, but if you're a Hallmark TV-movie fan, you might like it even more.

It was OK but I thought it was a little too predictable for a Hallmark film!
Irishchatter9 August 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I have watched a couple of Hallmark movies and I thoroughly enjoyed them but this time, I was a little disappointed in this one. You see, we all know well in the story that a hardworking girl pretends to be her boss, prince falls in love with her, Prince hates her for covering up and in the end they live happily ever after. We all have heard of that before since we were all kids. I think this movie should've had a better story so that it would make us viewers, interested to make it different from the rest of the usual fairy tale stories we know!

The actors Taylor Cole and Jack Turner were good in this but I think it's mostly the story lines fault that I felt this movie didn't flatter me enough!

Difficult to watch
MickyG3335 April 2023
6.5 stars.

Of all the Taylor Cole roles, this is by far my least favorite. I find her portrayal of a crafty and unethical human to be categorically distasteful. It appears this was the intent, so it's exactly on point. Unfortunately, her character being the "protagonist" of the film only serves to lessen the moral impact. There might be a few small bits of wisdom to be garnered from micro incidences, however they are overshadowed by Mandy's lunacy.

This is not the first time these actors have been in questionable roles, however Cole and Turner were very accomplished in their other films together; especially the winter series where they fall in love and get married over the course of three films.

The fallout of Mandy's behavior is not what we expect, and she is somewhat rewarded for her deviant behavior. This is unacceptable, and not the first time we've seen this theme popping up in a script of poor taste. 'My Summer Prince' is too cringeworthy and obscene for me to award it any accolades, and in my opinion it belongs stranded in the barren wasteland of the Hallmark bone yard.

On a positive note, the proficient rendering of the music and cinematography are noteworthy, the acting is seasoned, and there is a bit of entertainment value when Mandy is eating crow. Furthermore, this film is graced with the presence of icons such as Marina Sirtis, Vanessa Angel and Lauren Holly. Finally, Kassandra Clementi has a particular charm. I'll increase the rating to 6.5 stars for these factors, but the overwhelming inadequacies will not be ignored.

Usual soppy romance
vsoe-8614218 November 2020
Good movie overall. Don't know what those accents were supposed to be but they definitely weren't English. Only one remotely convincing was Prince Colins. And the protocols, or lack of them, when addressing him and the Queen made me shudder! Do these movie people ever actually do any research?

Terrific romantic comedy!
maggiedoran3188 August 2016
I've watched quite a few Hallmark movies and this was, by far, one of the best I've seen in a long time. Taylor Cole plays Mandy, a PR assistant whose boss (Lauren Holly) comes down with chicken pox while on assignment. That's when ambitious Mandy decides to pretend to be her own boss, and takes on their new client herself: a dashingly handsome prince (Jack Turner). Of course the two fall in love, but what will happen when Prince Charming finds out the truth about his new friend?

First off... the chemistry between the two leads is terrific. Taylor Cole is stunningly beautiful but also cute, and Jack Turner is adorable as the immature Prince. (It doesn't hurt that the film keeps finding reasons for him to take his shirt off.) Lauren Holly and Marina Sirtis are really funny as the two resident authority figures... and both get their strong dramatic moments too.

I don't know where they filmed (probably Canada, because most Hallmark movies are shot there), but its gorgeous and the cinematography is nice.

Overall, I thought this was a fun, colorful romantic comedy with great pacing, snappy dialogue, and solid direction. With bigger stars, this should have been a theatrical feature!

PR job, hideous dress and a handsome Prince in this mild hallmark romance.
cgvsluis1 May 2023
An attractive young PR assistant Mandy, ends up filling in for her boss who comes down with Chicken Pox, only to assume her name on this important assignment with a fictional European prince who got in to a spot of trouble in Idaho of all places.

Taylor Cole, who plays Mandy, is lovely and tenacious. She also does a wonderful job until she gets caught by the Royal attaché as a fraud. Since Prince Colin, played by Jack Turner, seems to be toeing the line and seems to be developing a crush on Mandy who he knows as Deirdre. When Colin's soon to be fiancé shows up unexpectedly and Deirdre-Mandy's lie is exposed the budding romance seems to be nipped in the bud and all while Mandy is stuck in this pink prom from hell like dress. Thankfully she shows up later in a spectacular black and gold number to make up for it.

Romantic but pedestrian, watch this only if you have nothing else romantic to watch.

Royalty in Summer
TheLittleSongbird9 December 2022
This viewer never gives anything low ratings and negative reviews with pleasure or relish. Have always aimed to be encouraging and see the good in even the bad, and this philosophy has always applied to all my viewings of Hallmark's output. Hallmark have done good and more films in my view. They even did some good ones in 2016, one of the best ones being a Summer Nights film ('Summer Villa'). Hallmark have done a lot of royalty romance films and some of it have been quite nice.

'My Summer Prince' is one of the ones that didn't work, and in most areas. Didn't think it was that awful and a few (emphasis on few) good things can be seen here. It however has many significant debits that are found in a lot of Hallmark's royalty films and of the 2016 Summer Nights Hallmark films it is a contender for the worst, coming from someone who liked the previous two ('Summer Villa' and 'For Love and Honour', especially as said already the former) in that block for that year.

Am going to start with the good. There are two good performances. Jack Turner is the very definition of a Prince Charming, being charming and dashing with a charisma that always looks natural. The other standout is the much needed energetic yet dignified spark that is Marina Sirtis.

Did think that the scenery was still nice generally, despite the film in general looking cheap. The odd moment amuses.

However, a lot doesn't work. Have always been mixed on Taylor Cole, she has given good performances in other films but here she came over as rather bland and her attempts at acting and sounding younger than she was was too affected. The worst performance comes from Lauren Holly, whose increasingly irritating cartoon of a character felt out of place and overdone. Only Turner's character is likeable and his and Cole's chemistry is lukewarm at best and is too often low key. Development-wise, there isn't really any and instead one of those just there relationships.

Furthermore, 'My Summer Prince' doesn't even look good other than the scenery. Too over saturated, over-decorated and choppily edited. There is nothing memorable about the music and it could have been used a good deal less. A lot of the dialogue induces a lot of cringing in the seat, Cole and Turner's interactions in no way sounding like everyday conversation even in that circumstances and Holly's dialogue stinks from all the cheesiness that pours out of it. The story is very weak, over-familiar territory with even more over-familiar execution with very little charm, fun or much at stake. How it all ends is never in any doubt almost immediately.

Overall, very mediocre. 4/10.

Hallmark Movies are not supposed to be perfect. There are supposed to make you happier!
jimtinfo17 November 2018
I've been reading the reviews on this title and I think some people don't understand what Hallmark offers. It offers simple stories that usually end happily. The royal series does the same. In this movie, the two main actors make a cute couple. The story is, of course, somewhat predictable, but not entirely so. The audience watching the movie probably is from the age of 12 and up. Too complex would ruin it for them. This one is actually a bit different than the other royal movies and is lovely. It succeeds in making the audience watch the movie, enjoy it and leave smiling. These are not high budget movies. For those that have more complex plots and fancier special effects, go to the movie theater. Also, this in not filmed in Canada which is where most of the Hallmark films are filmed recently, but in Utah. Enjoy the movie!

What the devil?
MollsandMills8 November 2020
If you were planning on a trip though Europe, don't worry about it - just watch My Summer Prince - the actors attempts at an English accent will transport you (anywhere but Britain that is).

Without giving too much away, we're pleased that ketchup got its sponsor deal out of this. In fact it featured so often, we think it should be given credit among the main cast. In all seriousness though, what was it with the ketchup?!

So many questions, so little answers.

A definite miss in all aspects.
linda-plant215 March 2019
PLEASE HALLMARK DO NOT MAKE ANY MORE 'ROYAL' MOVIES !! They are unbelievably dreadful - even for a Hallmark film. American actors overkill the 'English' accent even though its suppose to be fantasy. Our actors here in the UK have trouble enunciating like a 'royal', so listening to an American try it, is doubly unbearable.

The film story is one that a 10 year old could have written, but hey ho. The big disappointment was Taylor Cole, she is normally very good in other Hallmark movies, but watching an adult woman acting like a coy schoolgirl when being reprimanded was beneath her acting talents.

Supercilious
susan509613 February 2019
Why do supercilious people not only watch Hallmark movies but take the time to write a review panning it? Those reviews, more often than not, slam all Hallmark movies, so the reviewer knows what to expect. It's irritating. I don't take the time to review most of the movies and television I watch so it's a puzzle that others spend time on these movies that they consider beneath them.

Someone did an analysis of IMDb ratings because women-oriented material is nearly always rated significantly lower than the most juvenile of material directed toward men. It's been seen in the Rotten Tomatoes site and the Netflix ratings. I tend to think it's passive-aggressive teens or young men who probably spend all day giving bad reviews to anything done by or for women.

Imo, I think Cole and Turner have amazing chemistry. They're both attractive but Turner's more interesting with the English accent. The actors, including Sirtis and Holly handle the wittier than usual banter quite well. The production values were awful but you can't have everything. I got exactly what I wanted. It was two hours of pleasant entertainment. I like that Cole and Turner are both good looking and well-matched in height. I have a hard time enjoying the pic when a tall woman is matched with a shorter man and the director is inconsistent in trying to conceal that difference.

horrible green screen
born-1166422 March 2022
Horrible green screen. THE WATER WASNT EVEN MOVING! Who is the director?! Do better. YOURE BETTER THAN THIS, believe.. always. You need to examine everything in your movies. If your movie is real then make it real. Make it look better. Next movie please do better. Better is the key word. Better is where better is. Better doesn't stop because it is possible to always do better. It's never too late, after all you're still here. Make a change, not just any change but a positive change. Be yourself but be the better version of yourself. Xo amelie.

Taylor Cole
Jazzie-too20 September 2017
How does this girl not get really discovered?! We could easily have been Miss Texas. She is gorgeous! But I also like her acting personality--since I have never seen her in a real interview. I first saw her in Christmas in Homestead and enjoy it thoroughly-- mostly because of Taylor. Everyone should see that Halmark movie. Her name became etched in my mind. But I look at the work she has done, and they are all a bunch of sappy 3 rate movies, for the most part or sci-fi thrillers. That is just not fair. She needs to start being more selective. As for this Halmark movie it is a silly, predictable, nonsensical waste. But I will not give it lower than 7 Because of Taylor Cole!!

Absolutely worthless and cringeworthy movie!
ffxaxrx1 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Hallmark loves to showcase lying, backstabbing, emotional manipulation and blackmail. The premise is completely ridiculous. An assistant took advantage of her boss' illness to prove she could take on more responsibility. She lies about who she is and her qualifications to surprise, surprise getting closer to the prince. Cole Taylor plays ridiculous characters in her movies, pushy and aggressive to accomplish a self-serving goal. Another Hallmark bomb.

Sirtis Shines in otherwise drivel riddled palp
jaybeebrad5 December 2017
The majority of the other reviews here are spot on. This film is trademark Hallmark TV movie - cheaply made, lame script, pretty terrible acting, trite plot. It's a feel good romantic not-quite- comedy.

The plot has been done a trillion times. Woman takes on someone else's identity, gets to know man in powerful position, develops feelings, her true identity gets revealed, he gets mad, but then they make up. Nothing new here.

The cast for the most part is mediocre, with the exception of Lauren Holly who is straight up terrible. It may not be her fault as her character makes absolutely no sense. She plays a Miranda Priestly type bitch boss until suddenly at the end of the movie she turns out to have a heart of gold. It makes no sense other than to serve the big finale.

Marina Sirtis is a surprising standout as the loyal trusty servant to the royals. She's actually the source of most of the comedy in an otherwise straight role, and truthfully I could have watched her for a full hour. One wonders what she could have accomplished with a comedic career if she hadn't been pigeon-holed in sci-fi.

If you're looking for mindless drivel, this is a great distraction, but it's baseline terrible on almost every level. There's better drivel out there.

Hallmark sugar
SnoopyStyle5 May 2019
Mandy Cooper (Taylor Cole) is a hard working assistant to New York PR guru Deidre Kelly (Lauren Holly). When Mandy asks for more responsibility, she is immediately put down by Deidre. Playboy Prince Colin (Jack Turner) is their new client. After another one of his hijinx in a small Idaho town, the royal fixer Penelope Sheridan (Marina Sirtis) is sent. Deidre comes down with chicken pox and Mandy has to take the place of her boss.

The Prince is an entitled brat. He's great as the client. As a romantic partner, there is much to be desired. He does have the pretty boy looks and the possibility of redemption. It would actually work better if Penelope is the guy. Colin is a poor little rich guy and he's not the type that I could root for. As for the lie, it seems to be an easy one to spin to Deidre. Just say the royal entourage wouldn't accept an assistant to lead. Being a PR person, one would expect her to be able to spin. It's not the worst thing to tell the truth to Colin either. He would probably find the lie hilarious if it's done early enough. He would be able to play along and get one over Penelope. Essentially, the problems aren't problems. The prince isn't done well. All girls want to be princesses. At least, that's what Hallmark is selling here and it's a bright, cotton candy confection. It's another way to eat sugar.

Huh
LoveMyReviews18 August 2019
I cannot believe in this day and age they continue to pump out these terrible movies with the over enhanced video to mimic a perfect day in heaven. The typical oh I did not know your were a prince or princess and OI just want you for you and being royalty has nothing to do with it. It's so so cheesy down to the fireworks. I would expect something like this in 1989 but this is really terrible, and I cannot understand why they continue to make meaningless movies like this.
