Arrow - S05E15 Fighting Fire with Fire

Warning: Spoilers
If this episode isn't confirmation that Arrow is back, then I don't know what is. While I still had a couple of problems with it as a whole and it just misses out on being that home run episode for me, the sheer quality of this episode was amazing.

First I'll start with the Prometheus reveal. Only a couple of weeks ago I was seeing people get roasted online for suggesting Adrian was Prometheus. While I wasn't someone doing the roasting, like many I assumed that Adrian was Vigilante. After all, that is who he is in the comics and I know how much these shows love to introduce someone and then make them someone bigger as time goes on. So when it was revealed that Adrian is Prometheus, I was completely shocked.

Now that we have had that reveal, it now all comes down to Vigilante. In my head, I always suspected that the Vigilante reveal would come before the Prometheus reveal, but now that they have swapped them around, I'm starting to wonder if Vigilante is someone much bigger than we suspect.

Moving onto the mayor stuff, I was really surprised on how they went about it. I know that they were probably heading to some big press conference at the end where Oliver would reveal something, however I never thought that he would be throwing himself under the bus. I'm not sure if it is Oliver having to distance himself from the Green Arrow for a bit or he feels like he should suffer for what his done, but I'm not to sure what the game plan is, which really interests me because it makes for a really interesting back half of the season.

I have to talk about Curtis as both a positive and a negative. Finally we have T spheres. I was only saying last week that I want him to do more than just be the weak link of the team. With these spheres I'm hoping that he actually becomes a valued member of the team. Now to his negatives, I didn't need his relationship drama this episode. While it makes sense why they did it because it is the natural way to go, in this episode alone it was dragged out too much. And now that it happened at the end of the episode, you know it's going to flow into the next episode.

Just quickly, the other problem I had with this episode was Susan Williams. While I didn't have a problem with her herself, I was a bit confused that she knew Oliver was the Green Arrow. From the way I interpreted their previous conversations, she suspected it by Oliver never confirmed it.

Overall, a great episode of Arrow. While it wasn't my favourite of the season, it felt so much like an early season episode and that is always a good thing. I'm interested to see how this will go in the next few weeks. I really like when the Green Arrow is public enemy number one so I'm hoping they do something great with it.

Getting Good

Arrow took a huge turn this time around with "Fighting Fire with Fire". This episode, while not the series's most visceral, had plenty offer when it came to intrigue. The reveal of Prometheus was shocking and unexpected to say the least and the Vigilante subplot also was a winner.

An Exclusive

Warning: Spoilers
With the Vigilante being the focus of yet another episode, I thought for sure we were going to get a mask reveal by episode's end. Instead, we got the unveiling of Prometheus as none other than Adrian Chase. He's always been on top of my list of possibilities, and I can trace this prediction all the way back to my review for the 4th episode. But I was more curious as to how this would impact Vigilante's identity (as it's Adrian Chase in the comics). Could he somehow still be both? We've seen them both on screen at the same time, so unless they are pulling some Jay Garrick level twist, then I suspect not. But then who the heck is Vigilante?

Tonight's episode was another mixed bag for me. Besides last week, Arrow hasn't had a good second half. Part of that has to do with the lack of Prometheus, but it's also because the episode's just aren't all that great. 'Fighting Fire With Fire' was a mixture of mediocre direction and writing that just seems too similar to things Arrow has done in the past. I liked the first half of the episode when it was actually tackling a Mayor Queen issue instead of the Green Arrow. How many times have we seen the public turn on the Green Arrow/The Hood/Arrow? It was nice to see Oliver have to deal with a problem that didn't involve him suiting up. But he resolves it by throwing the Green Arrow under the bus and now the public is after him for being a cop-killer? I'm sorry, this is just lazy storytelling. I don't wish to see the same thing year after year.

I did find some entertainment in Team Arrow's pursuit of Vigilante this week, however. The whole Curtis T-Sphere/balls gag was great, and just the type of thing this show should poke fun at. I do worry just how effective these devices can be, and if it will become too easy for the team in the future. Sadly for Curtis, the T-Sphere's were the only positive to come out of this episode as it sure seems like him and Paul are officially over. It was only divorce papers, but I half expected Paul to be shot by Prometheus at the dinner.

Another thing that bothered me was Felicity's mindset. I understand hacking is like a drug for her, it's addicting. But do we really need to see her join forces with Helix more so than she already has? Diggle gave her the perfect pep talk, and in my opinion, the only one she needs. Again, unless there's something more interesting planned for her, I refuse to see the point behind this storyline at all. It's becoming very frustrating.

I'm still excited for this season because I think Prometheus is an intriguing villain, and him being Adrian Chase only enhances that. The reveal could have been handled a little bit better, but I think what we really need is to just see more of him. What's this exclusive he has for Susan? Is it really anything at all? But between Felicity's choices, Thea having to "fix" herself, and Oliver throwing Green Arrow under the bus, this episode was just mishandled. It's disappointing, and I hope it doesn't continue.

+Prometheus is finally revealed

-Public vs Green Arrow

-Felicity's mindset

-More Thea issues

let me just start by saying a really good episode, but arrows normal habit of changing comic characters and this episode did that chase. so chase is Prometheus and not vigilante like in the comics. so who is the vigilante then. Susan knows that Oliver is the green arrow. I mean come on arrow why did you make chase Prometheus.

Excellent, heartbreaking episode

Warning: Spoilers
Wow, what an incredible episode. One of the best episodes for this 5 seasons. Everyone thought that Adrian Chase is Vigilante, but actually he is Prometheus. Maybe DA Adrian Chase is the one who pretends to be Adrian but he actually took the identity from real Adrian who is Vigilante. Just like in the Flash season 2 with Jay Garrick.
