It appears that the NCIS team will look a bit different when the long-running CBS drama returns in the fall with Season 22.
Heading into this year’s season finale, we knew that Director Vance would present Special Agent Knight with a unique opportunity — to be the React team’s chief training officer, based out of Camp Pendleton in Southern California. And while Jess was quick to tell Vance she’d mull the offer, she dragged her heels telling colleague and partner Dr. Jimmy Palmer about the decision before her. CBS's Elsbeth made a splash with its debut, but afterward, audiences had to wait two months for more.
When it returned, it established itself as a quirky, lighthearted murder mystery series, though there is a darker overarching plot surrounding the lawyer's secret investigation into her new boss.
By now, it's clear this series is nothing like The Good Wife despite being a spinoff, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's lost its way.
Elsbeth is far more formulaic than The Good Wife, so it may appeal to a different audience. The Good Wife was a dark satire (not necessarily funny) about complex legal issues and the sacrifices people made to gain political points. Elsbeth is none of that.
The title character was a quirky attorney on The Good Wife, and as expected, she's the same on Elsbeth. She also is the lead in a cozy mystery show, which may not...

Remedy’s Alan Walk 2 which was released last year turned out to be a huge commercial success for the studio. Remedy’s latest sequel received positive reviews from critics and also got nominated for several Game of the Year awards.
A still from Alan Wake 2
Most of the game’s success had to do with its unique gameplay mechanics. Due to such elements, players are sure to remember Saga Anderson’s famous Case Board. Saga’s Case Board is now an integral part of the gameplay and players find it useful in tracking their progress through the game. However, this was not always the case so with the Case Board.

Netflix’s true crime series Homicide: New York’s first installment, “Carnegie Deli Massacre,” opens with the brutal murders of Jennifer Stahl, Charles “Trey” Helliwell, and Stephen King. The episode features NYPD Lieutenant Roger Parrino; Barbara Butcher, the second woman ever hired for the role of Death Investigator in Manhattan; and retired NYPD Det. Irma Rivera. The case plagues these veteran law enforcement professionals enough to revisit the evidence. The deaths seem to have weighed heavily on producer Dick Wolf too. “Tragedy on Rye,” a season 14 episode of his signature show Law & Order, is based on the tragic incident.

In July 2023, the BBC commissioned a review of the effectiveness of its non-editorial complaints policies and processes, following a complaint about the alleged behavior of former news anchor Huw Edwards who was later named by his wife as being the one accused of having paid a teenager for sexually explicit photos. On Tuesday, the U.K. public service broadcaster unveiled plans to “enhance” its complaints process after the review found “shortcomings” in its existing system.
The assessment was led by BBC Group chief operating officer Leigh Tavaziva and undertaken by Deloitte, under the direction of the firm’s senior partner Simon Cuerden. Its findings, published on Tuesday, identified “shortcomings” that require enhancements.

A Los Angeles Superior Court judge has denied ABC’s attempt to dismiss a wrongful termination case related to Covid-19 vaccination.
The lawsuit was filed by James Wahl and his son, Timothy Wahl, who were responsible for the construction and special effects department on ABC’s long-running daytime soap opera, General Hospital. The Wahls claim they were fired from their positions after refusing to receive the Covid-19 vaccine on religious grounds.
Judge Stephen Goorvitch‘s ruling on February 20 rejected ABC’s motion to dismiss, setting the stage for further proceedings.
ABC had questioned the sincerity of the Wahls’ religious objections to the Covid-19 vaccine. The network argued that due to the nature of their roles and the industry-wide restrictions in place at that moment in the pandemic, the Wahls could not be exempted from ABC’s strict vaccination policy.

The second season of ID’s The Curious Case of Natalia Grace concluded Wednesday night with a surprise ending that left audiences with even more questions about the story of Ukrainian orphan Natalia Grace.
The six-episode series, The Curious Case of Natalia Grace: Natalia Speaks, is a follow-up to the 2023 docuseries that focused on Natalia’s adoptive parents, Kristine and Michael Barnett, and their claim that the child, who’d been diagnosed with the rare dwarfism condition spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia congenita, was actually an adult woman who terrorized their family from 2010 to 2013.
Over the course of the three-night special, Natalia tells her side of the story as she seeks to find answers to questions of her own about her real age and why no one in the Indiana community where she alleges she was in fact victimized by the Barnetts intervened, including Michael, whom she confronts face-to-face for the first time...

Peter Berkos, the Universal Pictures sound effects maestro and champion of sound editors everywhere who shared a special achievement Oscar for his work on the Robert Wise-directed disaster epic The Hindenburg, has died. He was 101.
Berkos died Tuesday in Rancho Bernardo, California, his friend Brae Wyckoff told The Hollywood Reporter.
While president of the Motion Picture Sound Editors from 1963-66, Berkos began a successful campaign for his colleagues to gain full membership into the film and television academies and to receive credit onscreen and off for their work.
Berkos himself was uncredited for the first 20 years of his career until Car Wash (1976), and the Oscars would eventually revive its dormant competitive sound effects category from 1983 onward.
Across four decades, he worked for Universal on such films as Orson Welles’ Touch of Evil (1958), four features directed by George Roy Hill — Thoroughly Modern Millie (1967), the Oscar best picture winner The Sting...

Brad Pitt is as pure a movie star as they come, but if anything a large swath of his work is often overlooked. To celebrate the Missourian’s 60th birthday, Variety chief film critic Owen Gleiberman and Senior Awards Editor Clayton Davis look at the 20 best roles of Pitt’s career.
From “Interview With The Vampire” to “Fight Club” Pitt has morphed into hero, villain and even the (beloved) simpleminded trainer Chad Feldheimer for the Coen Brothers film “Burn After Reading.”
Just a few years shy of his best actor win for “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” his portrayal of Cliff Booth in Quentin Tarantino’s film is widely considered the high-water mark of his career. But it’s certainly not the first film to grant him award’s buzz. “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” “Burn After Reading,” “Moneyball” all landed him past nods for his acting as...

Adrian Monk is back with Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie.
The TV movie, now streaming on Peacock, reunites the cast and creative team behind the former USA series Monk. And making the 90-minute revival felt like a homecoming for star Tony Shalhoub — who reprises his role as the crime-solving detective with obsessive-compulsive disorder — since they filmed in Toronto.
“This is going to sound insane, but we shot the first season in Toronto,” Shalhoub recently told The Hollywood Reporter, speaking 14 years after Monk wrapped an eight-season run for USA Network. The series, which ran from 2002-09, was set in San Francisco. The original pilot, however, was mostly shot in Vancouver, and all seasons after the first were made mainly in Los Angeles.

Plot: Monk returns to solve one last, very personal case involving his beloved stepdaughter Molly, a journalist preparing for her wedding.
Review: Running for eight years on USA, Monk held the title of the most-watched scripted series in cable history until the debut of The Walking Dead. Wrapping up in 2009, Adrian Monk returned briefly in a Covid-19 short showing the Ocd detective coping during the lockdown. Now, fourteen years after the series finale, Monk returns in his first full-length mystery, Mr. Monk’s Last Case. Reuniting the four main stars and a couple of key supporting players, Mr. Monk’s Last Case follows the detective getting back into the groove as he investigates a murder that hits very close to home. Setting up potential future standalone mystery films led by Tony Shalhoub, this is a decent story that plays more like an extended episode of the series rather than a fully realized movie.

No need to stare at the yule log all December — though the TV midseason is typically as bare as a tree in winter, this year's end-of-year lineup is surprisingly robust. Disney+'s conjured up a new take on Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson and the Olympians books, while Peacock has brought Adrian Monk out of self-isolation for one Last Case.
Mysteries abound this month, as Mandy Moore meets Dr. Death in Season 2 of that anthology series and Paramount+ tries its hand at cult docuseries with Born in Synanon. There's plenty of lighter fare, too, thanks to the final season of Letterkenny and Netflix's latest snappy YA adaptation. And it all starts with a Cary Grant movie turned biodrama making its Stateside debut.

The Curious Case of Natalia Grace burst onto screens earlier this year and told the story we'd heard so much about.
Missing from the story was Natalia's input, as we were essentially told one side of a story, which doesn't always give the whole picture.
Natalia's adoptive father, Michael Barnett, was front and center throughout the initial run, revealing how he and his then-wife came to be in the care of Natalia.
On The Curious Case of Natalia Grace: Natalia Speaks, we'll see Natalia reunited with Michael as they go through the bombshells from the first season, with Natalie offering input.
The next chapter "offers exclusive access to Natalia Grace Barnett as she shares her story and confronts her former adoptive parents Michael and Kristine Barnett's accusations head on," ID teases.
Throughout six parts, we see Natalia open up about her adoption saga and her family's allegations from Natalia's perspective,...

(Welcome to Did They Get It Right?, a series where we look at Oscars categories from yesteryear and examine whether the Academy's winners stand the test of time.)
With all the milestones that have occurred throughout the 95-year history of the Academy Awards, there are still plenty of accomplishments that have not transpired. No Black woman has ever been nominated for Best Director, and no Black person has ever won that category. No animated film has ever won Best Picture, and no documentary has ever been nominated. I do believe all of these things will eventually happen in the future. As the diversity of the industry steadily increases and Academy membership gradually expands, these sorts of things must happen as time moves on.
But there is one thing I remain skeptical about when it comes to Oscars milestones. It has nothing to do with representation, nor does it have to...

One of the USA Network's most beloved television series is "Monk," which aired from 2002 to 2009. A police procedural comedy owing a lot to Sherlock Holmes (but set in 2000s San Francisco), the show followed Adrian Monk (Tony Shalhoub). A detective with crippling obsessive-compulsive disorder (Ocd) and social anxiety, Monk was once a police officer but retired after the death of his wife Trudy. He semi-comes out of retirement years later as a private consultant and that's when the series begins.
