delightful

I was pretty sure I had run out of superlatives in discussing this show but this episode was nevertheless an unexpected treat.

It is not only perfect on its own (non-stop interactions among the characters we have come to know and love) but it struck me that you could take a viewer who had never seen the series before, "start" him with this episode, and said viewer would instantly understand the nuances between the characters.

Which is a pretty amazing feat if you think about it. To keep characterizations and situations fresh 7 full seasons into it.

The "I am having trouble letting go" line is classic and I suspect it is one of those bits of dialog that will stay with you for years afterwards.

Does Anyone Find Louisa Quite Dull?
Hitchcoc30 March 2018
Sometimes I think that Louisa has a strain of jealousy when it comes to Martin. He is really a conflicted guy. Yes, he is a complete ass, but he is consistent, and he really loves her. When the couple finally gets together with the therapist, Louisa trots out a list of Martin's negative traits. Martin won't go there. She has decided that the therapist should cure him and then she can get to dealing with their relationship. There is another one of Martin's heroic acts here where he once again saves Louisa's skin. But again, his personality disorder trumps everything. We have a significant subplot were a teenager wants to shadow Martin because the boy is interested in medicine. But there is a great deal more to the plans. This is a very good episode.

Enjoyable

In a plot that didn't make sense to me, Peter Cronk obtains some sort of work-study situation where he would observe the Doctor. First, the kid looked awfully young, so this didn't make sense. Second, I cannot in any way believe the Doctor would even do something like this. Regardless, this precocious young man is really eager and amazingly knowledgeable for someone who looks about 13 or 14. But he has an ulterior motive..and what that is, you'll have to discover for yourself.

Additionally, a kid on a field trip with Louisa passes out and has a life threatening condition that the Doctor naturally diagnosis almost instantly! And, Louisa and Doc are given homework by their therapist.

Overall, a very interesting episode even with its logical problems I mentioned above. Well worth seeing.

Annoying characters
hazangel-8991029 April 2022
I know everyone finds Penhale a bit too much and over the top (which he is) but I have seen enough of Bert Large. His character has never really grown on me. Perhaps it's time for him to sail away into the sunset.

From a lot of reviews it seems like Louisa is not very popular either. I dont mind her so much (yet). I do think her wanting to change Martin is obviously exhausting and a waste of time. I also think she becomes very turned on by him when he is in full doctor action mode. What a dilemma ..haha.
