Lacks substance and depth, could have been much better, mediocre @ best
meltonc3 March 2017
I was expecting a lot more from this and must say I was really disappointed. This writer / producer / director was obviously relying on the sex factor in doing all the work as opposed to applying any depth or substance to this documentary - which could have gone in several different directions to keep the audience engaged and informed.

Getting a bunch of attractive guys together to talk about themselves, then sit together and have a go-around on ego, diet, workout tips, then have them do a physical activity together, then sit around the fire and talk some more -- there's not much more to this at all. I'm not sure if the producer / director was lazy, lacked creativity or rushed / fast tracked the finished product, or just thought that sexy bodies would take care of it all - - but this was really disappointing and had I paid for it I would have asked for a refund.

So sorry to be a negative Nellie about this, but that's my opinion, and I only wish the director / producer would have further developed the story line to add more depth and substance to this project.

A human glimpse into perfect bodies
Gordon-1122 January 2017
This film tells the true life stories of ten world's top IFBB physique competitors and top fitness cover models. The models tell us how they train to have they muscular body they have, how they keep in top form, and how they find the determination to do what many people cannot do.

I am surprised to find that "The Perfect Physique" is not just about the pursuit of perfect physique. It allows the ten individuals to really have a discussion among themselves what it means for them to train their bodies. Some of them even shed tears when recounting their life stories, which is the most unexpected but welcomed element in the documentary. It shows that within their muscular body, they also can have a fragile heart which makes them as human as any of us.

grossely narcissistic

It's rare so see a more metrosexual and pathetic version of the male species. If they could see what I saw, they would were dresses and makeup for the rest of there lives. This movie shows how self centered and narcissistic the bodybuilding/fitness culture are, and this is comming from a former 2'nd at the nationl bodybuilding championchip. Now im emberassed of once been a part of that world. You can feel how insecure these athletes are, and the only compensation for that is the most narcissistic thing you can do, and that is to cry. Cant stand it. 'Look at me, look at me, cant stand if your not looking'. Its a reflection of the new world order, where social media and 'reality-TV' is the new black. We don't need those kind of 'movies'.

Useful for Gym Goers & Aspiring Bodybuilders
urbansmash1 April 2017
I've read a few negative reviews on this documentary and they centre around the pointlessness and perceived vanity of the guys sitting around talking shop. However, when I watched it I picked up lots of useful technical information, tips, recommendations and advice. If you are not a dedicated gym goer I can see how all of this would go right over the head. However, as someone who has studied the art of bodybuilding and is still learning, this film was incredibly valuable. All the books, YouTube videos, podcasts, etc came together as the guys talked about popular theories and guidelines. They compared what worked for them and explored reasons why. If this film was called The Perfect Flight and was a bunch of pilots talking about aviation technique, then I might be lost and be tempted to give it a low review too. But if you are trying to build your own Perfect Physique then this film will be one to remember, have in your arsenal and refer to again and again like a good book or fitness YouTube channel.
