Interlude In Lesbos (2015)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

In one of his final interviews, director Jess Franco discusses the making of his cult classic VAMPYROS LESBOS. This 20-minute documentary can be found on the Special Edition release from Severin and has the director covering a lot of subjects but there's no question that the main focus is on star Soledad Miranda who would be killed in a car crash shortly after the film wrapped shooting. Franco discusses how he discovered the beautiful woman and how the original plan was to film many, many more movies because it was clear that there was just something about her that would make her a star. Franco even goes as far to talk about how everyone she met just fell in love with her. From here Franco talks about Ewa Stromberg and lets just say he's not quite as kind to her. Other subjects include the producer of the film as well as the music score, which was quite new for the time. If you're a fan of Franco or just the film then this here is certainly a must-see as the director shares quite a few stories from the making of the film and he also talks about the German film NOSFERATU. A wide range of subjects are covered with the director coming across as charming as always.
