Ho-hum

Having seen the original Robin Ellis "Poldark" in 1975, this story line is near and dear to my heart. I was fairly pleased with the first season of the new Poldark, but having now watched the first 2 episodes of Season 2, I am reminded of why I don't drink herbal tea - it looks like the real thing, but it has no substance. Long shots and close-ups of people staring out to sea pad the overlong episodes; Ross and Demelza seem wooden in this new season, depending on facial expressions that would befit silent film actors; Elizabeth seems incapable of doing or saying much, only staring at everyone with her mouth open, like she's the village idiot. I want to root for Francis, but he just can't get out of his own way; George is such a one-dimensional villain as to seem like a cardboard cutout; and the writing simply lumbers along. I feel badly for this cast of talented actors, but not badly enough to continue watching the series.

Disappointing

I am beginning to wonder if Aidan Turner was not the attraction that he is, if this series would simply fall by the wayside. As a devoted fan of Graham's "Poldark" novels and the original mid-1970's Masterpiece Theater series, I did enjoy the 2015 remake despite its rather cliff note format of the books. Thus far, the second season appears to take the cliff note version to even greater extremes, and the acting is not on par with the first season, despite the talents of its cast. At times, I felt as though I were watching a failed attempt at imposing the 19th century Regency style of Jane Austen onto the 18th century and it not only does not work, it is sorely disappointing. I may or may not continue watching. It will depend on my mood.

I just like it too much

I have to say this is the best TV serial I watched these few years, the plot, beautiful scenery, nothing to complain about (except Ross is an asshole...) Feel sorry for the women of that time. Demelza is too good to be true. Hope this serial keep coming~~~ I wonder when will we hear a new song in season 3?
