Does He Even Own a Shirt?

Best line ever! No matter how many times I watch this episode, I laugh at this line. Good introduction of Florence and poor Dwayne trying to impress her. Humphrey's socks!

Solid mystery
lizzieqever13 February 2024
This one is a solid outing with a good mystery, I would say this one's a little harder due to the final solution. I solve these with some regularity, but I did not get this one.

One thing about this one I found rather ridiculous, was how Camille captured this huge man when he was trying to run away. I realize this is fiction and a lot of things happen in fiction That isn't realistic. A Very good Example of this is how often in this particular show the murderer confess at the end, let's consider that you have killers who have very carefully and in detail planned out their murder. Do you think someone who's planned this meticulously is going to suddenly just confess at the end? Wouldn't they have thought if they confess that's gonna make sure that they get convicted? Would not most of these very crafty murderers to deny they did it all the way to the very end? Yet for tvs sake, they always confess at the end. In the same way, Camille Capturing this guy who is at least twice or size and probably three or four times as strong is just ridiculously unrealistic. The two male cops from season three would've had a tough time taken this big guy down if he didn't want to be taken down. Yet this 120 pound girl easily put his arm behind his back.

I thought the solution was solvable, and the plot was solid. It requires a little bit of a different kind of thinking I personally thought the shot came from well outside the window, and the gun was thrown in, but this was not the case at the end.

Surf teacher is found dead
ctyankee110 April 2015
Warning: Spoilers
A surfing teacher is found shot to death but no footsteps to see who entered or left where he was. He is married many years and has a daughter that wants to be acknowledged but never acknowledged her.

He has a best friend who is a doctor who has been giving him pills for an illness that no one is told about.

Death in Paradise is kind of hard to understand at times. Kris Marshall plays DI Goodman. He is English, very smart, shy and clumsy. There is more comedy than mystery.

DI Goodman is in love with DS Camille Bordey played by Sara Martins but does not tell her. Officer Dwayne Myers played by Danny John-Jules is also very funny and knowledgeable of the island people and customs which DI Goodman is not. There is also a new character in Season 4 Officer Florence Cassell played by Joséphine Jobert.

DI Goodman talks to himself a lot, which is very funny as he points to this and that on the charts him and his staff draw. He acts nuts but he puts the puzzle pieces of the crime together. The endings in these series of episodes are like a Agatha Christie mystery. Goodman has all the suspects gathered together along with his investigative crew while he explains who the killer is and why. He does this in an comical intelligible way and somethings very clumsy falling or knocking things down.

The cast is great. They don't understand Goodman's nutty behavior but they treat him and each other with respect. There is no swearing, no sex just a bunch of police employees solving a crime and having fun.

I like how they admit that they done it at the end. I wonder if the evidence would hold up in court

Guest starring Claire Goose
safenoe10 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Richard Signy directs Hidden Secrets, the second episode from season four of Death in Paradise. By now, Kris "Love, Actually" Marshall has more than settled into his role as DI Goodman, and anyway this episode guests stars Claire Goose as Katie Peters. Goose later starred in The Coroner, which sadly got axed after only two seasons, which is a shame because it was a high quality program, like Death in Paradise. Anyway, who would have thought that there would be a spin-off series from Death in Paradise starring Marshall, and we did, with Beyond Paradise init. Anyway, Hidden Secrets is worth watching.

Another average episode from Series four.
Sleepin_Dragon12 May 2021
A surf teacher is killed, and all of the possible suspects were all alone, all without alibis.

A very average episode, the problem here is that it's trying too hard to be funny, is it a murder mystery, or a comedy show. When they get the balance right, the show works insanely well, here though, it's silly, we have dull walks, silly mishaps, and all manner of nonsense, it all detracts from what could have been a pretty decent episode.

A good cast, but I'm not sure any of them were penned any interesting characters, the shining light here for me was Florence, what an impression she instantly made.

A real waste of Dean Lennox Kelly, especially when he's in shorts!

Watchable, but the show has made far better episodes, 6/10.

Okay at best!

Warning: Spoilers
"Death in Paradise" has been an absolute blast since I started to watch it. That being said, after Ben Miller left , "Death in Paradise" has not been the same. The third season started as unimpressive as one could get, but then got progressively better. The fourth's premiere was pretty good too. So, it is sad that "Hidden Secrets"- the sequel to a solid episode- underwhelms. It's light years away from the series' worst, though is pretty unimpressive, to say the least.

Let's start with good, shall we?

. The production values are wonderful as usual. The episode looks and sounds amazing. The acting's not bad either.

. The story has some occasional sparks with fine characters, quirky humor and entertaining premise. The surfing school setting is fun and portrayed well on screen.

But...

. The murder mystery was very disappointing this time around. The story does not have enough interesting twists and turns. The characters are not the best "Death in Paradise" has to offer either. Some plot elements like the victim being murdered in a closed room and the murdered man having a cancer have been done for many times already and feel uneventful. The solution (the victim committed suicide) I could see coming a mile away.

Overall, an okay, but a very flawed watch.

5,5/10 HK
