From its cold open with Raylan setting fire (literally) to his past, 'Dark as a Dungeon' moves with a real sense of purpose. That bank job's still TBD, but there's plenty of dramatic potential still ringing from last episode's big twist: Boyd and Ava working together against Raylan. Thus far, Avery Markham (Sam Elliott) has ridden mostly on the strength of Elliott's screen presence, but he does get caught up in the Marshal's scheme to get Boyd. It's his biggest piece of action so far.
This is a great episode. The dialogue, the machinations of the players, and even an appearance by the deceased Arlo Givens. A season highlight for sure.
