A nice short for the whole family

"Mermaids on Mars" is unusual because it's a short film with a lot of appeal to kids...as well as the rest of the family.

The film consists of both live-action and animated sequences. The live-action begins with a sick kid in bed and her mother decides to tell her a story to take her mind off being stuck inside all day. The story is about her grandfather and father and how they ended up meeting and ultimately helping a group of mermaids living on Mars!

The film is unusual in that the animation looks much like the old Rankin-Bass animated Christmas specials (such as "Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer" or "Santa Claus is Coming to Town"). I assume it was made using models but could have been CGI meant to look like these puppets. Regardless, the story is clever and cute...and well worth seeing.
