"I probably sound like a terrible mother"
hwg1957-102-26570424 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
A religiously devout grandfather keeps girls in his isolated cabin by a lake and when they don't comply with his wishes he kills them. Though what he actually wants is undefined. His granddaughter gets involved by treating the captives as her friends come to a tea party. The film doesn't really hold together as the behaviour of the child doesn't make sense. She would definitely tell someone about what was going on as she sees it as a good thing. The movie bounces back and forward in time also so it gets confusing, other times it is slow. In one scene you can't even tell what is going on as the focus is on a tree and not the happening behind. A strange directorial choice.

The acting is decent enough but on the whole the movie just seems flat. It needed more tension.

Not Bad for an indie but no ending!

Warning: Spoilers
SPOILER ALERT!!!!!

The movie was not bad for an indie movie. Some of the filming is not very good, and you can't really tell what is happening, like what he is doing with the bodies in the boat. Like Also parts of it are not believable, for example that so many women are total bitches and sluts. It must be like the town they were talking about in Tommy Boy when they think if the factory closes the whole town will go under "thats when the whores come in" LOL! Also, that the grand daughter doesn't tell anyone that her grandfather is torturing and murdering women. It leaves a lot of questions, like does the daughter know? Some of the acting isn't too terrible, and the plot is totally believable; there is no supernatural stuff going on. So that makes it more scary. but.........

it has no ending! How can a movie have NO ending? It just leaves you hanging! Terrible thing to do to a person! To watch the whole movie and it just seems to end right in the middle of it. That just ruined the whole movie for me.

Not terrible, but I don't recommend it.

This not a gory film, nor is it really a horror. It is a portrait of a self righteous acolyte that has followed his beliefs into a realm of lunacy. The titular character looks like Fire Marshal Bill when he talks, which was hard for me to get past. I kept waiting for him to scream "let me show you something!". The level of acting in the film is inconsistent. Some of the actors did a good job, but others... not so much. Grandpa is a pretty believable character and therefore sufficiently creepy. The daughter's performance was a bit robotic, but a lot of that could have been the poorly written dialog, which was at times pretty cringe worthy. Especially the conversations between the daughter and the cop. The camera work was not bad. The pacing was a little slow. One of the biggest problems I had was that the granddaughter was too old to be so naive and trusting. She spoke like a three year old, but she looked to be 11 or 12. A younger actress playing the role would have made that more believable. All in all, I'd say skip it, unless you're really bored.
