When I began watching this Amazon-exclusive as a result of seeing it nominated for two Golden Globes, I couldn't really understand what all the fuss was about.

But after watching this episode, I'm convinced that this show is absolutely worth a watch.

The scene in the bathroom in the mall is very well done and effectively demonstrates a real struggle for transgender people. It makes it difficult to watch because this scene challenges the general rules and principles of society. Men in the men's bathroom; women in the women's bathroom. But it's no longer as simple as that, and this scene emphasises this. It clearly points out where social norms are flawed and is able to successfully put the viewer in the shoes of Maura.

I'm really beginning to like this series. No television show has ever forced me to look at what we as society consider normal and acceptable and assess whether it truly is or not. It encourages open-mindedness and thinking outside what most of us usually would on a daily basis. And after seeing some of the frequent and ever-so-complicated problems which LGBT people encounter all the time, it makes us question our own attitudes and gives us a little perspective.

I hope this series continues to entice myself and others and definitively express why it deserves its two Golden Globes.
