Good Discussion on Horror and Puberty

Growing Pains: Puberty in Horror Films (2014)

*** (out of 4)

Writers Axelle Carolyn, Rebekah McKendry, Kristy Jett and Heidi Honeycutt lead a discussion on puberty in horror films when it comes to titles like GINGER SNAPS and CARRIE. This panal discussion clocks in just shy of thirty-minutes and for the most part it's a fascinating look at female puberty and sexuality when it comes to horror movies. The most interesting aspect of this is hearing the women's point of view when it comes to these movies and what ideas these films are throwing out there. I can't say that I agreed with everything that they were saying but at the same time if you're a fan of something like GINGER SNAPS then you'll be interested in this discussion. I thought the idea of female sexuality was handled quite well and I would agree that we need one of these movies from a woman's point of view (although the screenwriter of GINGER SNAPS was female).
