All the schools I've attended have been Christian. I remember when I was six years old, our school performed a play of the nativity scene, birth of Jesus Christ. It was performed during the Christmas season and was displayed as a warm and fairytale-like story. Every week we would also have assemblies where we would sing different hymns in reverence to the Son of God. At the time, I always saw Jesus as a miraculous person whose life was full of goodness, love and joy. As I grew older and I learned more about Christianity however, my view in the fairy-tale like story of Jesus Christ changed. The movie displays of mysteries, such as the nativity scene, further deepened my change in view of Jesus as it continues to shows the reality of his life. Jesus's life was nothing like a fairy-tale, instead it comprised of injustice, violence and prejudice. The often gruel events were accurately presented in this movie, including the Slaughter of the Innocents, outcasting people from society, Jesus's crucifixion and many more.
In addition to changing my views about Christianity, the movie also taught me even more about the religion. To be completely honest, I didn't know much about Christianity and Jesus's role in the first place, but the movie approached things in a step-by-step, unbiased way that helped me understand. This approach on Christian beliefs is what makes the movie so effective to a wide platform of audiences. For this reason, I deeply recommend this book to anyone, ranging from beginners of Christian studies to practicing Christians who are simply curious and want to watch an interesting, suspenseful film.
I rate this movie a 10/10 However, the title, "The Jesus Mysteries" can be a little deceiving as most of the mysteries shown are not necessarily about Jesus
