A complex, intriguing glimpse at humanity.

This is a very compelling piece of work. A friend was involved with the film and recommended I try it out, I probably wouldn't have stumbled upon it otherwise. The plot is slow but intentional, and I found it to be incredibly refreshing and illuminating. The story revolves around three individuals seeking spiritual understanding, the dialogue is heavy and the cinematography is moody and yet soft. It definitely requires a certain cinematic palette as the pace of the film and the themes it discusses are slow moving and complex, but as an independent film enthusiast, I am extremely heartened to see that cinema can still provoke, ponder and question existence in such a gritty, thoughtful manner.

A little gem of a movie!

A little gem of a movie that pushes you to think philosophically about some of the bigger issues in life, through a very creative, interesting format. In the film, grand, philosophical questions are played out through an everyday life, involving a woman planning her engagement party at a local diner. The three main characters represent the three main ideas that I think play out throughout our lives: ourselves as simple humans, the trusting, forward moving optimist who understands the essentials and non-essentials in life, and the ever doubtful pessimist who relies solely on logic. It also has a spiritual undertone of love vs. what appears to be rational and therefore right. But, I'm simplifying it, and everyone will probably interpret it a little differently. I guess you'll just have to see the movie to understand what I'm talking about! I guarantee you'll be replaying scenes in your mind over and over again as you continue to ponder it. Charles Hubbell as Lou (the rational pessimist who longs to understand) is exceptional. Very artistically done.
