David Herrin Makes My Skin Crawl
thalassafischer15 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This was a very well presented documentary and I do not doubt for a second that David Herrin beat Amber Bennett to death after claiming she "fell" two days in a row. Christina Boyer was an abused child and an abused adult, and it's almost funny the way she describes Herrin as "clean cut" and better than other men she'd dated. It's painfully obvious to me from the court room footage that the man was a piece of trash back in 1992, he looks like some redneck loser and it's also obvious from the way he aggressively lied during his own trial to frame Christina although she was too kind-hearted and honest to do the same in return.

The old white Southern men acting all self-righteous in Episode 2 almost make this mini-series revolting and impossible to watch but it's an important exposure of the kind of bigoted misogynistic nonsense that goes on in Nowhere, Georgia even to this day.

Offensive to victims, parents and anyone with a brain

Warning: Spoilers
Give it a watch if you enjoy hate-watching. Don't watch it if you have been told you are really bad at critical thinking.

Any person brought in as the critical thinker is given a fraction of screen time before one of Christina's white knights yammer on about their feelings and perceptions rather than the facts.

And not once is Christina asked about how she ignored her child's injuries in the days before the child's death, not even the students that try to help her in recent time bring that part up.

I regret watching this. And I wish Marty and Mark would spend their resources on other cases. Makes me wonder if it's the paranormal hoax and its marketable value that makes resourcceful professionals care so much about it, like they just need a win and a media circus will give it to them.

I loved it

Warning: Spoilers
The documentary was great. I loved the depth of investigation, the thorough backstory, and the interviews. It shows the typical case of judgemental Georgia believing that a woman's sole role on this planet is to bear children. They crucified a woman for the death of her daughter, which occured while she wasn't even home. Cases like this are the reason the south has such a bad reputation for being sexist. The detectives even admit on tape that they don't know who killed the girl, but her momma was put on this earth to protect her, so it's her fault. What bull! Your only job is to investigate the case and find the perpetrator. Instead they conjured their own ideas and convicted off of bias. Georgia has long been the state to avoid as a woman, but this one reaches new lows to me. Cases like this are what I inspired me, and others like me, to pursue law.
