Quippy, fast paced, ridiculous fun!

I really miss silly low-stakes TV shows, it's been a long time since I saw something funny that didn't take itself too seriously.

Apple TV+ has some good comedy shows, but this is a different breed - it's snappy, endearing, full of charm and wit, that knows it's not aiming to be too complicated or high-browed, meaning you're left with 35 minutes of fun. It's what I hoped to see in "Our Flag Means Death" - more light hearted silly stuff and less of an over-serious plot.

The pacing is excellent for this type of comedy, and Noel Fielding does what he does best here as Dick Turpin, being somewhere between a bumbling, naive doofus and a courageous outlaw gentleman.

All in all, I can't wait to see where this is heading and if the rest of the season is this fun - sign me up already for season 2!

Vince Noir in a new adventure
jadeemarierose2 March 2024
As a mighty boosh and noel fielding fan, this series makes me unbelievably happy! It's as if vince noir from the boosh got a bit older, decided to become a highway man, and got a bigger budget for production! An absolutely astounding cast of english comedians, including moments from boosh family members mike fielding, simon farnaby, rich fulcher, dolly wells, and tom meeten! The completely made up adventures of dick turpin is a genuinely funny, whimsical, and feel-good show, in proper fielding fashion! Full of comedic one liners that you'll repeat to your friends and an amazing wardrobe that hopefully shows up in halloween costumes this year. Hope to see a second season!

Episode 1

Warning: Spoilers
With MAX getting rid of Our Flag Means Death, Apple TV+ and The Completely Made-Up Story of Dick Turbin could be its rightful heir; just with a little more English and a little New Zealand.

Noel Fielding does a good job in this role and completely embraces over the top nature, exactly what he has done on other shows in his career.

I worry that this environment could get very repetitive and boring, but if the jokes are there then I will definitely stick with the show.

I laughed enough to keep watching, but let's see if this can end up being something I look forward to each and every week going forward.

First Impressions Are Everything...
rumiwomack1 April 2024
I had gotten many advertisements for this Series before finally watching it, and I had heard that it was going to be a "funny British Comedy" which I usually like. But, this first episode did not impress me.

It's far too self aware, to the point that the stakes don't even feel like stakes, and ultimately nothing even matters. There IS a such thing is being too self-aware and this episode definitely exceeds that limit. It's trying so hard to be quirky and originally, but it ultimately falls flat as there is seemingly no characters to root for as they're all rather plain and boring behind the "comedic" facade.

Overall, I had somewhat high expectations going into it, but it's just a cheap attempt at a tv show. Don't waste your time.
