Hang on - so the whole thing about Simone actually having a thick Brooklyn accent that was revealed in the last episode has now been completely ignored?! In that case, chalk that up as being the 'jump the shark' moment for me where 'Go On' is concerned.
For me 'Go On' has drifted into replicating some of the errors that Matthew Perry's previous show to this 'Mr Sunshine' did. Character spout witty lines at each other non-stop, there's banter that goes nowhere, and random pop culture references are bandied about for no apparent reason.
That's not to say that this isn't a good episode, because it is. It's certainly an improvement on the previous one.
The balance of heart and humour feels like it is on more solid ground, and I liked the growth that Ryan has experienced via his relationship with Simone.
We also get a 'Studio 60' reunion here, and it's a joy to see Matthew Perry and Bradley Whitford play off of each other again. It worked that it wasn't just Matt and Danny 2.0 as well.
The humour though has grown broader/sillier and I miss the more grounded nature of it that the first few episodes (or even those up until Christmas) had.
This remains a good show though.
