Just too awkward
helmahvg11 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I don't know if I actually hate this movie or that I just very much dislike it. What a horrible storyline and so unbelievable. I think the only decent thing I have to say about it is that the quality of the shots is actually quite allright.

The actors who were supposed to be mother and daughter and who were supposedly father and son felt nothing like it. I don't have anything against the actors, they just did not match at all. They felt like the more believable relation towards eachother would have been as friends, but just with an age gap. And how weird was the story; all the events happened within seconds and the bride said her mother was a piece of work but they could not be more lovely people. There was no real-life drama and no trauma (good for them).

But finally; how weird and how horrible would it be if your mother and father-in-law got engaged. I could not see the fact that my mother got a relationship separate from that my mother is dating my husbands dad. That's just too much.

Another silly Netflex movie
I usually like light rom-com movies but this one was not all that great. The setting were it took place was beautiful but the movie didn't use enough of it. I thought the acting in this was very wooden and some of the dialog was so cringe worthy. Booke Shileds looked really good for her age of being almost 60 but, something about her eyebrows really bugged me. Benjamin Bratt as a 60 year old is still very cute. I know this was suppose to be a comady but I didn't laugh at any of it. I was glad to see Star Trek: Discovery's Wilson Cruz in the movie. I think he is a good actor. The movie was only good for a one time watch and I would never watch it again. It's a type of move for when your bored and don't have anything else to watch.

A predictable movie with some famous faces
lisafordeay9 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Mother Of The Bride is a 2024 romantic comedy starring Brooke Shields(A Castle for Christmas),Miranda Cosgrove(I Carly),Benjamin Bratt(Miss Congenality) and Chad Michael Murray(A Cinderella Story).

Directed by Mark Waters(Freaky Friday,Just Like Heaven),the story follows a doctor named Lana Winslow(Shields),who finds out that her only daughter(Cosgrove) is getting married to RJ. So both Lana and her daughter travel to Thailand where Lana gets the shock of her life. She discovers that her daughters future father in law is no other than Will(Bratt),the man that broke her mom's heart during college. Will romance blossom again?.

Overall this film was so so. The actors were good, but the concept was just weird. If the two main leads get married then that means that they are now step siblings since Lana and Will get together.

Even for rom com lovers this is terrible
susiegaynormcgowan12 May 2024
When you watch a rom com you can nearly expect what's going to happen, this is no different. However the plot is utter ridiculous even by rom com standards. Most of the actors have no chemistry and the production is choppy to say the least. Brooke Shields isnt bad, Rachael Harris (Lucifer) has some good lines, Wilson Cruz (Star Trek Discovery) has some good lines too. Miranda Cosgrove and Sean Teale (the bride and groom in the movie) have zero chemistry. Im not even sure why Chad Michael Murray's character Will was even necessary for this movie. The best part of the whole film is the beautiful scenery. Most of the film is utter cringeworthy stuff. Save yourself 90 mins and watch something else.

Poor acting
klauzbiomed10 May 2024
I knew it was a predictable movie, but the script and the acting is so bad executed that it becomes impossible to buy the story. There isn't chemistry among the actors. The bride and the groom seems like friends or strangers, and the relationship between Brooke Shields and her romantic interest doesn't work at all.

Everything fells like a bunch of prefabricated scenes glue together with poor edition. In my opinion this is the problem of Netflix, they don't wanna take risks. Just go for familiar faces with terrible scripts and poor acting. It could be a nice return for Brooke Shields, but it was disappointing to me.

Another rom com nightmare
terrylarosa10 May 2024
After suffering through Anyone but You that was as unfunny as you can get we get another massively unfunny rom com. Brooke is brittle, overbearing, doesn't have any comedic chops and showing she's not a good actress. Was she ever? This was awful beyond belief. It's been years since I've seen a good rom com. Avoid at all costs. It gets one extra star for some of the locations. Made it halfway before I couldn't take anymore. I have to keep writing. If I could just keep one soul from seeing the travesty then I've done my due diligence. FF to the wedding and even that was awful and robotic. Whew made it.

Nothing special
Ina_L10 May 2024
This movie is nothing special one tipical romantic comedy movie that fallows two couple stories that are connected, but it is mostly focused on second chance trope. It has great cast but some dialogues and scenes feel like they were suddenly cut. A lot of different stories were started then cut out of nowhere and where replaced but new/old ones. Too many stories have been started and wanted to tell but none of them have been told properly. There are some cringe dialogues and because of that you cannot feel the chemistry between the actors. The last scene should be done better and in different way.

Warning: Spoilers
We are the generation who were born in an era of blue lagoon so for us Brooke was a goddess and we keep checking on her from time to time like that Christmas movie she did last year and I'm sure many are proud of being of this generation.

You keep watching the movie although being predictable and I think deep inside people just remember the good movies era along side remembering Brooke.

The movie got some laughs and goofy situations and you can easily say it is a cute movie to watch with your girlfriend and popcorn and then forget it and just remember that poster on Brooke in your room long long time ago.

Cringe - not funny
bekki-0407911 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This is a poor written script with a cringe worthy script. The acting was poor and storyline was more about old lovers (who's kids are marrying each other) than the wedding itself. I rated this 2 out or 10 as it was boring and badly done, no comedy (they tried) and all about an influencer wedding. The costumes weren't great. The mother of the bride was awkward and played the role badly. I would avoid watching this film if you're looking for a fun comedy as it is definitely not that. All set around the bride and grooms parents awkward past to reuniting at the end at their children's wedding (not appropriate) Avoid this weird film.

Netflix propaganda?
MickyG33311 May 2024
6.9 stars.

This isn't bad and it's certainly not 4.9 stars bad. Is Netflix lying when they say this was #1 on their movie list this week? It doesn't have too many reviews and the rating is way too low for a #1, so I'm confused.

It's a decent rom com, Bratt and Shields have good chemistry. For two people in their late 50's they look really great. I will do my best to look that youthful when I get there, which isn't far off. Both of them have physiques of ripped 35 year olds, young looking faces, good all around health and tone.

The movie is generic. It's about a destination wedding on a tropical island resort, the whole family is there - not too many members. CMM is a supporting hot younger guy who is trying to get with Shield's character. Bratt's character is trying to get her attention again, to win her affections the way he had her 30 years ago in college. Meanwhile her daughter is marrying his son. There was history between several of the fifty something group - they all went to college together, lots of memories and drama.

Not a bad story, so I'm perplexed at the low ratings. Not great, sure, but entertaining enough.

It's like a bad hallmark movie

Very lame script, poor acting, overall boring and underwhelming. It is like a bad hallmark movie. I would give two stars for the location but no, there were too many unfunny jokes. Not recommended.

That was FUN!
info-3783310 May 2024
Can everybody just relax and be entertained, please? There is no need for every movie to reinvent the wheel! Was this movie predictable? Yes! Was it fun to watch? YES! I adored seeing Rickie from "My So-Called Life" and every other maybe-not-so-famous-anymore-actor in it. It was like a walk on memory lane and I was entertained the whole movie long, laughed and shed some happy tears because everything that I wished for happened and hence made me happy.

This is what romantic comedies should be like. Entertaining and light and giving me some sort of release and hope that things will be ok and everybody finds what they are looking for.

Had a rough day? Watch this without the critics glasses on and relax! You can be questioning the world again tomorrow. I promise there will be loads happening to exhaust your mind so you need another movie like this to chill.

Loved watching it due to a couple of things that worked...
putneychick9 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
First I like Brooke Shields. She is funny in her own special way. Bulky, not so attractive, and yet because of her quirky and clumsy acting, she looks adorable.

Second - Benjamin Brat - he certainly looks good for a man who does not look a day older than 60 plus. The pairing of them though not perfect but they still come out quite okay even though the chemistry could be greater. Loved the character Lucas as Brook Shields' love interest. A pity that he had only a small part to play. He could have made the film funnier by appearing in more scenes and making things awkward for Brooke Shields and Brat.

Third - the young couple Emma and RJ - were kinda of underplayed. Could not sense the strong chemistry between them but Emma as when playing solo, did well especially her scenes with Brooke Shields that were emotionally touching.

Fourth - loved that the movie's backdrop was in Thailand, it helped to spice up the movie more, making it more scenic, colourful and with swimming pools scenes, beach scenes and the fantastic soundtrack did help the make the movie really enjoyable to watch.

Fifth - some good comic lines by supporting cast. Would have loved that the young couple too did have some cool stand up lines and the RJ character was definitely underplayed Sixth - the gay couple could have also been given more supporting role but again, they were sidelined most of the times which was a shame.

Seventh - liked the closing scene where everyone was seen enjoying each other and dancing away and having so much fun jiving. That was great to watch and made me smile.

Eighth - who sponsors a black gown to a bridesmaid ??

That is hilarious.

Ninth - would love to see Brooke Shields making comedies. She is great in that.

Tenth - gave it a high rating cos I truly enjoyed watching it even though it was not an original movie and pretty predictable but somehow it still turned out reasonably decent.

Bad script and even worst acting
paolaachicanoy12 May 2024
Please don't waste your time watching this movie. It is really bad not only that the script looks like made by a kindergarten but also because the actors are really really bad. I didn't believe a word or a kiss or a hug that they perform adult that is not chemistry Between any one of them And also, The story itself doesn't make any sense

I think the production wanted to sell the movie with some recognize faces but honestly, it's just not worth it is really bad and it's a religion genetic movie without any effort to see how these actors become so bad I giving them one start because I kind of give them zero here.

Boy what a no talent that Baby Jane is
mls418212 May 2024
At first, I thought this was a reality TV show I had turned on. I was sure I was looking at Caitlin Jenner.

Brooke Shields was never known for having any talent or charisma, just youthful looks. So why is she still in the public consciousness? There are plenty of talented actresses of a certain age we never get to see enough of. Why this? Brooke should go back to kissing and telling on class c talk shows.

She is truly awful on this. She cannot act. She has no sense of comedic timing and zero charisma with her leading man, Benjamin Bratt. She's completely wooden in scenes with her daughter.

I can think of 30 actresses in her age group who could have done better.

Not the other one...
phildeesnow9 May 2024
I thought that Hollywood wasn't doing this anymore, Deep Impact, Armageddon, Dante's Peak, Volcano and I could continue...but I'm just going to make myself clear with just a title "Ticket to paradise". For a moment I was wondering if I already saw this movie...and then I realized that no, it wasn't Brooke Shields but Julia Roberts and not Benjamin Brat but George Clooney, I think you got it.

This movies trying to catch the Mamma Mia vibe are going to fail, particularly because there's no Abba involved, or an original idea for what matters.

I still can't figure out if this was a comedy, because I didn't laugh not even once.

And if by the end credits they were going to "break the 4th wall", why not take advantage of having Brooke Shields and make some Blue Lagoon joke?... Maybe that would have made me chuckle.

If the word cliche was a movie
casualviewer-9216312 May 2024
Im giving 3 stars only because Sean Teale is such an eye candy, otherwise this movie is terrible... just awful! I mean romcoms are supposed to have cliches but this was just awkward to watch. The bride and groom didnt have chemistry and Miranda cannot act. It's funny cause she's been acting for years you'd think she'd already gotten the hang of it but no 😄 And why does everyone in this movie look baked and dried and wrinkled? This was a predictable romcom with such bad acting I could not find anything romantic or funny about it. Dont waste your time. Can netflix please stop making movies like this?

Netflix should stop giving away plot points
wehling-7768013 May 2024
My wife, the Rom Com fan of the family, rates this a seven. I turned the movie on before she could see that Netflix spoils one of the main surprises of the early part of the film in the recap of the movie when you queue it up. They could just say, "but things get complicated when the father of the groom shows up", but instead they give the whole thing away.

It was a pleasant plot turn for my wife because she didn't know it was coming. There's a lesson here that Netflix and Prime and others just don't seem to understand. Plot twists don't work if you tell us about them ahead of time.

We liked the characters, the setting, and it was an easy watch on a Sunday evening.

Hurt my brain
cm_curtis10 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I created an IMDB account just to say how bad this was. Brooke Shields cannot act. Her overacting and her facial expressions were painful. I knew the minute they showed the layout of the resort someone was going to fall in. I wonder how long it took the writers to decide on the "walk out of the shower without a towel trope?". Whodathunk the pickleball game would result in a slam to the "pickle?"

There was a time when slapstick was funny. That is not evident in the portion of this that I subjected myself to. I think I lasted 30 minutes even though it was on primarily as background noise before I had to bail. It was so bad.

Could've been so much better
catrine-4884511 May 2024
I really like Brooke shields so I was looking forward to watching this. It was nice to see other familiar faces.. The story has been done to death except this was pretty boring ,not much happening. The bride and groom we're not a good match and no chemistry together. I think Benjamin Brett and Brooke shields had better chemistry. It definitely is like a Hallmark movie although I've seen better Hallmark movies.

I guess it's good to pass the time on a rainy Sunday afternoon. If you decide to watch it, just don't expect much. There wasn't really anything funny . The ending is predictable as most of these type movies are. Sadly, I really wouldn't recommend it and as I said they could've done so much more with the movie but Netflix has very few movies on anymore so I figured I'd give it a try.

WOW
papetzy19 May 2024
How can anyone on a movie set make Brooke Shields look unattractive. Bad hair at times and one scene her eyes are so blood shot that I thought who was made her cry. She was never the best actress and this proves she hasn't gotten better with age.

The movie is so bad that I had to finish it.

The one reason to watch is Benjamin Bratt. It has been a while since he has been in something and well in this film we should be thankful his is bare chested in several scenes and his nipples make more of an impact than the entire casts acting. Chad Michael Murrays hair should get an Emmy nod and his physique is in a few words, hot, hot, hot and Wilson Cruz, never a fan and still not has spent many years in the gym and his bod is on full display here.

Makes me think the casting department cast the movie with their looks in mind knowing it would be a resort film.

The whole idea of the movie as an influencer wedding must have been written in a basement by three stoned 20 somethings because it is so lame that I feel bad for the the production crew.

I am sure it is #1 on here cause of the idea it is a comedic rom-com but whoa...

There are 90 minutes we won't ever get back!

Light Hearted and Fun!
aussiejs10 May 2024
I throughly enjoyed this movie. It was light hearted and fun.

Brooke Shields looks amazing and she was great in this role.

I loved that it was family friendly and in an era where there is a lot of violent movies (which I also enjoy). I appreciated a charming and fun rom-com. The scenery was also beautiful. There are not a lot of this type of rom-com in these times and it is nice to be able to sit back and enjoy a fun light-hearted movie. All the charaters was good. There were funy moments and some emotional ones as well. I think anyone that loves rom-coms woukd enjoy this movie and I would recommend it and ignore the negativity.

Ok. Ok. Predictable plot, but still a fun one.
dianerosenblath11 May 2024
Yes, it was a predictable plot, with the expected laughs and, for some of us, happy memories. Set in a beautiful vacation type hotel/resort in an apparent sub-tropical place - the point being: you're not in Kansas (home) anymore. Beautiful people saying witty and sometimes prophetic things. Everyone looking very well-dressed and healthy, and eating lovely resort foods and drinking libations in appealing colors and glassware. Truly a mini-vacation for viewers, with the bonus of romance x 2, and a few flirtations. The proposal setting was extra-gorgeous with a zillion roses. Finally, Benjamin Bratt was his usual adorable character, with a nearly nude scene! And other familiar faces plus good dialog made this movie a good one for a date night movie with a satisfying ending.

Biggest star in this is Phuket
Dillydaydream13 May 2024
This was awful- cringe making. It felt like a vacation for actors from a retirement home. It's a poor story trying to succeed by adding some slapstick- like falling into pools, a tennis ball hitting someone in a vulnerable place etc . The scene where Benjamin Bratt interrupts the wedding reception was one of the worst scenes - awful. I watched this on an Oled tv and the two leads looked actually older than their real ages. The acting is universally awful and the whole thing is lifeless and cliched. There is no chemistry between the cast.

The one success about this film is that it should do wonders for Phuket tourism.

Nothing much to see here
tsora-9075611 May 2024
If you have seen Ticket to Paradise I will recommend you just ignore this movie, if you even heard about it to begin with. The press surrounding this movie almost didn't reach me until I heard how much it was copying Ticket to Paradise. Only thing is, it lacks a majority of the charm.

The cast is decently stacked with Miranda, Brooke, and others. They don't really shine here though and labeling this movie a rom-com would be inaccurate. There are few jokes in the movie and even fewer laughs elicited as a result of them. The writing was just rough and hard to sit through. I kept wondering when will this movie end as I watched, and it really was not even long compared to a majority of movies these days.

The chemistry between Brooke and Ben is basically non-existent. They never seem right for each other throughout the film and lack the history required to accomplish the "lovers reunited" storyline theme many Rom-coms strive for. Miranda is likeable but her husband to be has little character development in the story, and he too shows little chemistry with her. Therefore the romantic part of the Rom-com title also fails to develop.

Overall an easily forgettable film that fails to create any emotional attachment and only shines in the scenery it was made in. Without scenes of Thailand it would be fair to give this movie little to no positive credit. Your time will be better off spent elsewhere.
