A Tamil spoof to remember
greatprajith23 May 2013
Hello guys! This is the first full spoof movie in Tamil cinema ( at least to my knowledge). The movie revolves around Shiva (Shiva) a local boy who is raised by his grandmother. He wants to be big in life but he falls in love with Priya (Disha Pandey) who is the daughter of a big millionaire in the city. Meanwhile a big don 'D' is terrorizing the city. Then one by one 'D's top henchmen were being killed by an unknown person.Meanwhile (again) Shiva goes to 'Cinemapatti' (which is his birth place) to search and find his parents. And then suddenly they reveal Shiva's true identity.

This film made me laugh like a hyena. OK that wasn't the best example but this movie will sure make you have a smile on your face. The best part of the movie comes when Shiva and his three friends are together. You will never guess who 'D' is and you will be shocked when you find out. So worth a watch. If you had followed all the movies which are spoofed in this you would love it.

First ever tamil movie in Spoof genre
notifyprabu11 January 2013
Warning: Spoilers
TamilPadam is the first Tamil based full spoof-comedy movie. Most of the Tamil movies from 80's-2010's are spoofed in this movie very cleverly. Goa is an another movie which is also spoof based genre released along with this movie. To understand this movie, you need to watch movies like RUN, THALAPATHY, ANNIYAN, ENGA ORRU PAATUKAARAN, VAIDHEGI KAATHIRUNDHAL, etc.,

List of notable spoofs Films

Karuththamma - The opening scene shows Periyar Dasan as the father of a baby who is about to be killed. Dasan played the same role in Karuththamma as well.

Boys - Siva's friends are named after the actors in the film. Their introduction scene, as well as Siddarth's failed attempt to impress his girlfriend, are based on this film.

Thalapathi - The scene where Devaraj visits his brother and asks for forgiveness.

Priya - The Scene where Devaraj's Gang Asks siva To meet devaraj, siva eyes is closed and he tried to located the place while sensing sounds while he in car

Ghajini - Siva remembers that he has to kill Swarna when he looks at a Polaroid photo of her.

Minsara Kanavu - A small part of the dance in the song 'Oh Maha Zeeya' is the same as what Prabhu Deva does in Minsara Kanavu in the song 'Vennilavae Vennilavae'.

Enga Ooru Paattukaran - A similar character is shown as a resident of Cinemapatti.

Kizhakke Pogum Rail - At Cinemapatti railway station, a woman is shown sending messages at the back of the train compartment.

Pokkiri - The hero is revealed to be an undercover police officer.

Baasha - Siva's meeting with Devaraj is heavily based on the encounter between Rajinikanth and Raghuvaran in Baasha. Siva's fight in market - circle of rowdies around him and walking is based on Rajini's walk in Baasha when he hits Anand Raj. Villain D shoots the henchman when the henchman says "India lost the cricket match". In Baasha, Raghuvaran shoots his henchman when he conveys a bad news.

Run - Siva is chased by thugs and when he is not visible to them he sticks a small fake birthmark on his face. So when the thugs find him they are unable to recognize him though he's in the same dress. Even his girlfriend finds it difficult to recognize him.

Ramana - Devraj is shown to accidentally meet Ramana before his brother (and asks forgiveness to ramana ) The protagonist of the film is famous for his dialogue " Tamilla enakku pidikyatha varuthai...Mannippu " ( meaning Sorry is the only word I hate in Tamil )

Annamalai - Siva challenges his lover's father and claims that he will become a millionaire (and subsequently does).

Sivaji - Siva meets a minister to report about the lack of water. His unique way of signing documents is also based on Sivaji.

Billa - A transvestite has a Billa tattoo that says "Swarna".

Apoorva Sagodharargal - Siva appears as a dwarf and attempts to kill a criminal using a Rube Goldberg machine. Delhi Ganesh reprises his role as the villain.

Anniyan - Siva tries to force buffaloes to stampede and kill a criminal. In the same sequence, he tries to imitate Anniyan's voice with no success.

Nayagan - The people look to Siva as their savior and ask for his help in repairing the water pipe.

Spoof movies are underrated
varun-seng6 July 2021
The spoof movie genre is under-represented in Tamil cinema.

From the opening scene, to the climax twist, it's very evident that the director/writers have analyzed Tamil cinema with a fine toothed comb. Some references to movies are quite direct, others very subtle. Some older ones flew right over my head. The movie is a laugh riot, and represents several things wrong with Tamil cinema.

Must watch for Tamil cinema fans!

My most favorite Tamil Padam of all time! no kidding...
Dolchi10 June 2022
The Thamizh Padam is a good starting point if you want to see a spoof of all tropes and stereotypes of Tamil language films (Kollywood). What's not there to make fun of? With oversized heroic arcs in films and over dramatised trivia in cliched characterisations, we cannot help but beg directors to make different movies.

A lot of "important" people were very offended that this film was made. This shows the success of the film in capturing the very essence of a spoof comedy. Quite a few aspects of archaic filmmaking techniques were brutally trolled at times, giving a wake up call to film makers. I have a feeling that this film is more responsible for Kollywood's new batch of fresh films coming out in the last decade. This film would have helped more than any filmmaking academy on what "not to make".

The film follows along a main lead, complete with the introduction song. At times, the portrayal even questions all sections of the society irking quite a few.. Overall, the nonstop comedy and the hilarious setups make for a comfortable viewing. This is for you if want a comedy spoof that questions all pointless scenes in Tamil films.
