I guess there are plenty of adults now too young to remember when Christopher Reeve made his debut as The Man of Steel. It was a massive hit across the full spectrum of moviegoers. Warners is taking good care of everyone’s favorite undocumented visitor from Planet Krypton, and has assembled two separate cuts of his big-screen premiere.

13 phobias on film for Friday the 13th13 phobias on film for Friday the 13thSasha James1/13/2017 9:05:00 Am
Did you know that “paraskavedekatriaphobia” is the fear of Friday the 13th?
Instead of the usual breakdown of the Friday the 13th movies that you’re probably used to, we decided to celebrate this Friday the 13th with a write-up of phobias and the movies that we most associate with them. Yes, we could have picked Arachnophobia for arachnophobia, but we tried to be at least a little bit more creative.
Check out our list below, and let us know if you can think up better movies to represent the below phobias.
Panphobia (Fear of Everything) – What About Bob?
You can’t talk about phobias without talking about Bob Wiley. In Frank Oz’s 90s classic What About Bob?, Bill Murray plays the multiphobic patient of Dr. Leo Marvin (Richard Dreyfuss). He’s afraid of everything: buses,...

Elizabeth Wurtzel's 'The Bachelor' Recap: The Fantasy Suite and The Opposite of Love For all we know, they played Go Fish and talked about ideas. For all we know. By Elizabeth Wurtzel It’s time for another episode of The Bachelor, America’s pre-eminent reality show for romantic group dates, high-profile rejections, crying pharmaceutical saleswomen, and rendering the phrase “true love” utterly meaningless through ceaseless repetition. This season, we have asked Elizabeth Wurtzel, author of Prozac Nation and Bitch, to confront our favorite national circus nightmare. Join Elizabeth each Tuesday for all of her opinions on the squabbling and hot-tubbing that’s fit to air on ABC. There is no purer decadence and fun than a one-night stand: It is sex for its own sake. In her extraordinary 1973 classic Fear of Flying — which everyone must read — Erica Jong coined the "zipless fuck," which proceeds from eye-lock [...]...

Look, not every flight can promise Liam Neeson will be on board as your personal air marshal, ready to kick ass as he foils an extortion plot, as in this week's Non-Stop. Without that assurance, anyone might be afraid to fly. But my fear of flying started long before 9/11 and the Age of Terrorism, stretching back even before Erica Jong published Fear of Flying in 1973 and introduced the idea of the "zipless ----," which, in turn, made me terrified of women and what they might expect of me. No, I blame one movie in particular for making me afraid of stuffing myself like a pork sausage into a casing that is far too small for my size. Airport (1970; d. George Seaton). I...

Sex sells, and I’m buying! I have a confession to make that shames me. I have never read 50 Shades of Grey. It just got so mainstream and the ‘done thing’ to do. I couldn’t even tell you what its about. However, I am very acquainted with classic erotic literature which has long been a passion of mine for years.
Erotica has been around for centuries – from the bawdiness of Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales (beautifully brought to life in Pasolini’s cinematic version of the work) right up to feminist neurotica erotica novel Fear of Flying. And a lot of us have had a gander at it over the years. Has it made corrupt perverts out of us? We will be discreet about that issue and take up our prime positions for filth mongering at 10 classic works of erotic fiction…

London, Oct 13: A previous study had discovered that one in six people suffer from fear of flying.
However, experts have revealed that the most dreaded yet common air travel nightmare can be beaten, the Daily Star reported.
First of all, it is important not to focus on things that can go wrong while taking a flight, and if something is bothering you then you should share your concerns with the cabin staff.
Fear of flying will also reduce if you think of turbulence as normal and pre-book your seat, which removes a lot of stress.
Avoiding coffee or caffeine products, which can cause a hyper state of mind, and taking long deep breaths during stressful times on the flight is also advisable. (Ani)...

"The Heat" was well-received by audiences and critics alike, but Sandra Bullock -- one half of the female buddy cop duo -- doesn't plan on pestering director Paul Feig for a sequel. The Academy Award-winning actress told Entertainment Weekly that she "can't imagine" turning the R-rated comedy, which co-starred Melissa McCarthy, into a franchise. Brace yourself for an onslaught of think pieces on the current state of the most casual of all sex, the "zipless fuck": There's going to be a movie of Erica Jong's 1973 classic Fear of Flying. (Possible stories include, Can we still have zipless fucks? Do women want zipless fucks? Do men? Is it okay to have sex on a train? If you are both wearing maxi dresses, technically there is no zipping to be done — but does that mean there's no emotional attachment?) According to Deadline, Laurie Collyer (Sherrybaby) will direct the adaptation, though no one is attached yet to star as Isadora Wing, the curious and unsatisfied American traveler making her way to Vienna and to second-wave feminist sexual empowerment.

I have always been a fan of short films but never really liked attending shorts programs at festivals because there are usually only 1 or 2 good films sandwiched between 4 or 5 terrible ones. That is one of the reasons why I absolutely love the online press screening room that the Tribeca Film Festival gives us access to every year. Rather than have to watch the films in blocks, you can pick and choose which films to watch and potentially review. Throughout the week I watched (or attempted to watch) well over 25 Tff shorts. I say attempt because there were quite a few misfires that I didn’t think deserved to be in this festival. Of course there were also some I wanted to see that just were not available, which I believe is a huge mistake made by some of the filmmakers. But there were quite a few that were pretty fantastic.

For short films, the Tribeca Film Festival is a must. Winning the award for Narrative Short or Best Documentary Short automatically qualifies a film for the Academy Awards. Their track record isn’t too bad either. Shawn Christensen’s Curfew had its New York premiere at the Festival and went on to win the Academy Award.
This year, Tribeca will show 60 short films in eight categories, from a variety of new and returning directors (including Christensen with Grandma’s Not A Toaster), and featuring performances from a number of Hollywood stars. Elijah Wood plays a standup comic who attempts a daring set in Setup,...
