At least series 26 ends on a high.

The Lyell team focus first of all on trying to get Kate released, and secondly to find the truth.

What a shame the rest of the series was so poor, this shows us fans a reminder of how good it can be. I know some criticisms will arise about The Lyell team becoming first class Detectives, and there is a little truth to that, but the story was a very good one, twists and turns, and a pretty surprising revelation.

Jack's fight scene with Wes, that was terrifically staged, and good to see Jack not being the all conquering hero for a change.

Just one question, that injury...was there a lion on that beach? That injury was something.

I was glad to see that series 27 is on the horizon, and I know that 26 has been shocking, but Southbay did at least give us glimpses of the addictive show that Silent Witness used to be.

8/10.

Vastly superior to prior Season 26 episodes

Kudos to director Toby Frow who managed to take the same cast that had been flailing around in the other episodes and stitch together a convincing and well-acted story. True, the plot was full of the typical credulity stretching twists and turns, but it held together and this pattern is nothing new for "Silent Witness". What was different is that the ingredients came together in a way that had been absent before and made for a very effective drama. You could see all the actors raise their game, even the romance between Jack and Nikki was presented with a veracity that you just did not see in prior episodes. It made me wonder what on earth was going on during the rest of the season but at least provided strong reassurance that the show was not dead on its feet.
